My Maddening Monday Morning

The day is finally here. I am sitting in the room with Mom waiting for the vet to come and take out my stitches. I don't have my shirt on because the vet tech wanted to look at my incision and weigh me. I lost almost 2 pounds in the past two weeks - Mom says I don't have two pounds to lose.

I think I hear him coming.

Can you tell how happy I am?

What's wrong with this picture?

And this one?

Well, you guessed it - I am home AND I still have my shirt on
AND I still have my sutures.

And if all of THAT isn't enough, this is what happened to me
BEFORE we went to the vet!

Woe is me, Phantom

Note from Mom: Well, Phantom is not very happy, but the vet said he wants to wait until Friday to remove the sutures. In order to remove the lump, he had to make a very large elliptical-shaped incision, and so in the process, he removed a very large section of skin. He had to do a lot of stretching of Phantom's skin to bring the opening together for suturing. He is concerned about removing them too soon because the skin could separate. So we will try again on Friday. I told him to leave them in as long as he thought was necessary - we don't need another problem. So the shirts will have to keep getting laundered and rotated for a few more days.

  10. Well, I think this was a dirty trick and someone owes you BIG to make up for it. I certainly hope your Dr. was given a stern talking to for getting your hopes up like that and then having them shattered into tiny pieces. You should have peed on his leg. As for your Mom - I think she probably should give you an unlimited number of your favorite treats for the rest of the
week and allow you to take naps in the most comfortable place in the house even if that's her bed. That's what I think anyway.

  12. OH NO!!!!! I am home and reading blogs finally and learned about Phantom! I was so sad to hear about his troubles - Mom put onesies on me when I had belly stitches - but I guess they don't make those big enough for Phantom - I hope they got all the bad stuff out and that he will be just fine. I am putting his name in the St. Francis bowl! Big licks to Phantom

  14. Bummer.. But the important thing is that you heal up properly! We prefer to have you in one piece - even if that means a bit more t-shirt.

  15. Phantom,

Time will go faster than you think -- honest!!! And it's really better to wait and have the incision heal a bit more so you (and your mom) won't have to worry about it opening.

Ask JH about when he was a conehead!!! It seems like forever -- but then it's done!

But ask for some extra special compemsation for being such a good boy!!!

  38. Well its a good thing you have a vet who cares. taking that out too early could be worlds of trouble for you. My uncle had a thing removed from his shoulder and the stitches were pulled too early, mom had to take care of it for weeks!!! it was gross so she says. any how, take care of it, please. =)

  50. Oh Phantom! You poor thing! But don't worry - you look really cool in your T-shirts! It's best to wait until the skin is good and sealed up - I once burst my stitches (after my Girlie Operation) and that is No Fun at all!

  52. Yes, unfortunately, my stapes were due to my poor decision to ingest a rock. Momy and daddy took me trick or treating with her nephews adn somewhere along the way a found a rock that I guess tasted pretty darn good!! I ate it adn three days later I was having emergency surgery to have it removed. The vet said I was very lucky that mommy notices when I'm not acting like myself because if she had waited any longer, I would not have made it. So I feel ya on the sutures thing!! They really stink!!!! Hope you are feeling better and they take those darned things out on Friday!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Sorry Phantom. Morgan had the same thing when she had her tail operated on. There wasn't enough skin and they had to leave the incision open. It took a long time to heal, but now it's good as new.

  54. Oh Phantom, Monday wasn't much of a day for you. We keeping our paws crossed Friday will be a better day!

  57. Oh poor Phantom! But it's best to keep them in longer if they need it.

    Fingers crossed for Friday. xxxx

  58. Oh Phantom! I'm so sorry you still have to wear those shirts and have those stitches. Friday is almost here and it will be worth it to make sure you can run and play.
