Phantom on Friday

Phantom is really not too crazy about the flashy beast. So it isn't very often that the Momster can get very many good photos of him. Since he offered a few opportunities this week, we thought we would feature Phantom today.

He loves to sit by these windows so he can see what TD and Ciara are doing outside
and still know exactly where the Momster is.

His favorite spot outside is usually on the deck at the very top of the stairs. But with the beautiful weather we have been having, he is often found out on the lawn, usually checking out the happenings outside his fence.

Just enjoying feeling good today.

Can't you tell I am trying to hide from you?

Phantom was always extremely close to Dakota. They were only 15 months apart in age and they did everything together for years and years. Then along came Thunder. Phantom was always very good with him, and when Dakota started to slow down from her illness, we noticed Phantom starting to take more of an interest in TD. After we said our good-byes to Dakota AND Phantom had his horrible surgery experience, he was very much a loner. He spent a lot of time in his crate. Poor Thunder was very confused. After a while, Phantom came out of his "funk" and we noticed a big change in his relationship with Thunder. They became the best of pals and had lots of fun werestling on the deck.

Then along came Ciara. The Momster had really expected Phantom to take to her right away. Was she ever wrong! He wanted to
eat her when she first arrived. Then he wanted to boss her around in a not very nice way. And then he just ignored her. Lately we have been seeing little hints that maybe he has decided she isn't so bad after all. Today the Momster caught him doing this:

And this:

She thought she had a great video to share where he was giving her kisses all over her face, but silly Mom, she forgot to push the record button and got NOTHING. Maybe another day, but it was so good to see him finally showing some affection to the little one.

And for his concluding photo, we just have to show you his absolute favorite spot - lying on the carpet at the front door with the door open and the screen in the door. He would stay there all day and all night. In fact, that's where he is right now.

Some of you may remember that in early March we did
this post about Holly and her mom Debbie. They were hoping to start their own blog some day.

Well, today when Mom was reading some of the comments on our posts, she saw one from Holly and thought there is something different about that comment. Then it hit her. It didn't say it was from "Alex93andme" - it said it was from "Holly". So Mom clicked on the link for "Holly" and whoa - there it was, they have a blog!!! It is called Holly Wags. Please be sure to stop by and welcome them. We know they would really love to have some visitors. And we all know how good they are about visiting and commenting too.

Happy weekend to all.

  8. As we are quite new to your family, it's good to read something like this where we can get to know more about each family member. We are getting to like Phantom more.

We are going right over to meet Holly now.

  9. What sweet photos - and don't be too hard on your Momster for not pushing the record button - our Mom makes that little mistake all the time and misses a lot of good footage.

  14. We love all the photos of Phantom and are so happy to read that he is beginning to warm to Ciara. Multiple households always offer their challenges, and it's nice when the balance shifts from iffy to cozy!

  16. It looks like Phantom is warming up to the little one now! From what you said, she's been through alot of crisis periods so I can understand her being cautious to make friends really quick especially after losing her best friend Dakota. I have found through the years that animals really grieve in different ways for sometimes a long period. She's coming around!!

Thanks for featuring my blog to everyone!! It's in a rough stage right now (since I really don't know what I'm doing!) but I would love people to stop by!!! Thanks very much. Lots of love to you and Phantom, Thunder and Ciara!!!

  19. Great pictures, Phantom! You shouldn't be such a photo Phantom. (That made more sense in our heads.) I think I would really like laying in your favorite spot too. My favorite spot is on the couch, watching out the front window.

  20. I am happy to read about my favorite boy, Phantom, today. I love dogs who sort of think on their own and figure their world out. Even if they are wrong, they usually manage OK, but Phantom is looking good and I'm glad to see he is making up to Ciara a little.

Another favorite guy of mine is Sue's Tsar, he is one funky character!

I also visited Molly and told her about my experience being bitten by an 8 week old pup. Different ending, though!

    Cheers and Hugs,

    Jo and Stella

  21. It does take time. We see it with our guys too -- even after so many years, suddenly in the midst of every appearance to the contrary there's a moment that reveals the affection.

But who could resist the charms of Ms. Ciara??

  22. Great pics of Phantom. Love the smiley face one. He looks very happy. Mom says that is part of what she loved about her Sibes - Niki & Bo. Someday she says she is going to take over and do a post about the dog friends they had before us. Friends are good. We will visit Holly.

  27. WooRay for Phantom. He looks so cool and we are really glad to see him. Wee like sticking our snoot through the fence too but we can only do it sitting or standing because of the mesh Dad put on it to keep the rabbits out and Remy in (when he was 8 weeks old).

Glad you are playing with Ciara too, she is a good little sister.

  34. We've seen a similar pattern with our eldest dogs each time a puppy has invaded the house. The puppy adores the pack patriarch but the patriarch isn't so sure about the puppy. Just like you've seen, they eventually come around... in their own way.

I love the focus on Phantom. He looks so sweet!!! Tell Ciara NOT to bite his tail (not that our puppies have ever done such a thing!) :)

  35. Lovely to see photos of Phantom and to read that he is being good to Ciara!

  36. Hi Phantom,

It was really interesting to learn more about how you all get on in your family! I'm an "only dog" so it's always very interesting for me...and I think sometimes it's like humans - not all us doggies love each other at first sight! Sometimes we take a bit of time - but we can still turn out best friends! :-) I think if I had to cope with a puppy now, I would NOT be happy either! I think it;'s harder for us doggies as we get older to adapt to change (just like humans!) - but you're doing really well!

Am off to visit Holly now!

  37. Some changes are hard to take, others just take more time to adjust to. When Star lost her Sherman, she got deeply depressed, and I don't think I made it easy to like me, I was pretty rough on her in the beginning. But then she whipped the tar outta me and I "got it" - she WAS the Queen! We became bestest friends from then till her last day.

Now Moo, she just moved right in & told me "We are going to be best friends starting right NOW", and we are! No muss, no fuss.

Thanks fur sharing all these great photos of Phantom, our mom thinks he is quite the handsome hunk o' husky.

  39. Phantom, I totally understand that completely opening your heart to a stranger (no matter how cute) and making them FAMILY is a process that takes time...as you know I am going through a similar experience. Ciara is a sweet cute pup, it is great that you are giving her a chance. In time you will grow to love her and protect her as one of the Pack!
