Thankful Thursday

Today is a much better day in Overland Park. We are still in the Land of Oz, but at least the sun is shining and the scary storms have moved away.

It is good to be able to get outside in the sunshine and cooler, dryer temperatures. We are hoping by cooperating with the flashy beast here that the Momster will be taking us for a reward walk later.

Here is a photo taken by a friend of our human sister of one of the funnel clouds that touched down. This location is just a few miles from our home. Tank, if you are reading this, it is the shopping plaza at the intersection of 135th and Metcalf looking toward the Kolache Factory and Jersey Boyz stores.

We were very fortunate here because the funnel clouds only made very brief touchdowns and rapid ascensions. No serious damage, no injury. But just a little bit south of us in Louisburg, there was more damage. One man in his truck was taken for a bit of an airborne ride. Luckily he was not injured, but his truck is totaled. And of course, farther north in Sedalia, there is substantial damage to many homes, businesses, and vehicles, and a few injuries. We are sure that many of you have seen the reports and photos on TV.

As you can imagine, the need in Joplin, Missouri, where the EF-5 tornado hit a few days ago, is tremendous. Tank, who also lives in Overland Park, has been telling everyone about an opportunity to help out the animals in Joplin. If you visit Tank HERE and HERE, you can learn about ways you can help.

Tank and his assistant have told us there is a need for fleece

blankets for the Joplin shelter

animals. It appears that they have enough food for now, but they

have

requested blankets. We are joining with Tank to invite all

of you send a blanket to the

Joplin Humane Society

Animal Adoption and Resource Center

140 E Emperor Lane

Joplin, MO 64801

Everyone who participates will receive a special ♥♥♥PROJECT

  11. So furry happy your pups are safe! I was pretty scared when I heard a tornado touched down in OP. Too close for comfort. Glad all your humans are safe, too!

The sunshine was sure wonderful today, and you pups look so pretty in your lovely yard!

The Project Toto badge is great, and the idea is super. It is devastating what has been happening around the area, but so heartwarming that so many are pulling together to help all the animals and humans in need. Thanks for helping to spread the word!

  15. We are so glad that you are all ok! We have a few blogger friends in the areas that have been in the path and we are hoping that they all can post soon (one is on vacation and we are super worried about their fosters). We were with mom watching the storms all night the past few days - we were very lucky that it was mostly south of us - but we know that a lot of others were not so lucky. We are sending all those affected lots of purrs and prayers.
