A Vampire in the House

Some of you may remember what happened between Ciara and Phantom when she was around five months old, just about the same age as Lightning is now. If you would like a refresher, just click HERE and watch the video.

Well, it is all happening again. The Momster thinks we may have a vampire in the pack.

It took a while for the Momster to make the connection. But we now think that this licking behavior is totally wrapped up in the arrival of those new "big boy" teeth in Lightning's mouth. Mom suspects that there may be some blood on his gums or some sort of smell or taste that is attracting Phantom. But why only Phantom is interested is quite the mystery. He does have some bizarre food likes and dislikes:)

Phantom: Don't believe a word of what you are reading here. I am just checking to see if Lightning got some of that duck jerky when I was sleeping.

Lightning: Heck, I don't care, I am rather enjoying all this attention from the patriarch of the pack.

And now it is time for me and Ciara to get our zoomies session underway. (Many of you have commented about how big Lightning is getting. That is true, but you can see Ciara is still bigger than him, and she is the smallest of the other three packmates.)

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

Note from Mom: Just a short update on our daughter's friends who were injured in the airshow crash. We can tell you that a husband and wife (our daughter's dear friends), the husband's brother, and the husband's parents were involved in the tragedy. Sadly to date, the husband's mother is still listed as "missing" and presumed deceased. EACH of the other four has lost a good portion of one leg and has multiple fractures to the other leg. All have had surgeries to repair the damage and help them on the road to recovery. All are doing well, given the circumstances. Once again, we thank you all for your prayers, good thoughts, and support.

  5. We'll continue to keep your daughter's friends in our thoughts...

I once saw a special on wolves in which they greeted each other by barring their teeth and then smelling one another's teeth. (The handlers greeted them this way as well. They barred their teeth and let the wolves smell them; they didn't smell the wolves teeth! BOL!!) Clearly, both Ciara and Lightning submit to Phantom when he's "checking their gums", maybe it's some old left over lupine dominance thing. Or maybe Amber's right - he's just checking the youngsters for duck jerky!! BOL!! It's really interesting. My dogs do this, but mostly as a form of affection; and not often...

  9. Your dogs are beautiful. I have a black lab and shih tzu inside and an English Setter outside.

    I love my dogs.
We lost our son 7 years ago. JOshua would be 24 now. My little shih tzu has been by my side for every tear that I cry. I love that little girl. Her name is Sammi.

    I love your site~
    I’m following you!

  12. It may sound bizarre but I think that Lightning now approaching adulthood is putting off some pheramones that Phantom is picking up on. He's probably asserting his Alpha station to the young man. Tsar is really into checking the mouths of the other dogs, too.

  13. I think you do have a vampire among you!
I can see the difference when you compare Lightning and Ciara together. It is difficult to gauge how big Lightning is when he is by himself!

  14. We too have a couple of vampires or doctors as we call them in our house. If anybody has a boo-boo of any kind, Dr. Brut and Dr. Chance can always find them and lick them to death!!

So sorry to hear about your daughters friends. Paws crossed.

  22. Hello Everybuddy, I like your style Phantom. You know, every meal time I always have to lick Rory's mouth just to get any leftover food out. Mum loves it cause then she doesn't get slobbered on by Rory hehehe.

We are still sending our very good wishes to your friends involved in the air crash.

Take care all, love Stella and Rory (and Carol) x

  26. Phantom is such a character! I love seeing him "in action".

Will Lightning's eyes remain two different colors? It looks gorgeous... but I'm guessing it's a phase until the blue eye changes color. Is that the pattern with Sibes?

I'm so so sorry about that family. That is terrible beyond words. We are keeping all paws and fingers crossed for them.

  27. I loved the video and seeing lighting just rolling around. There is just something about puppies with older dogs - I love to watch how they interact.

I found this really interesting, I would have never thought that the licking was cause the gums were bleeding, really cool to sit back and watch dogs behavior.

Im so sorry about your daughters friends. Please keep us posted and we send our prayers.

  34. i think you're right about the teething.

i'm so sorry to hear about the tragedy of your friends. the other day we were walking the dogs in the farms at sun down and a trick plane was doing acrobats in the sky above us, practicing. he stalled his plane on purpose and came very close to us. i for one did NOT appreciate that. we went right home. i'm not a fan of air shows these days. even so, it's sad that those who are have been hurt or killed.

  35. We continue to woo healing energy and strength to your friends as they mend both physically and mentally from the horror.

We are starting to see a lot of the same focus around the muzzles of everyone but WD in the White Dog Army...lots of face nuzzling and "kisses" (also ear sniffs). Our White Ones are certainly beyond teething, maybe has to do with pack identification? It is fascinating to watch unfold.

Glad to see Phantom mentoring the new boy.
