Project Patio Report

Lightning: "What do you think of this, Ciara? It looks like the project is finished."

Ciara: "Hold on a sec, Lightning. I have my eye on a bunny in the neighbor's yard."

Ciara: "OK, he disappeared now. Personally, I preferred the muddy dirt much better."

Mom: "Well, get used to it, Princess. And please leave the new sod alone. I just might have to cut off the duck jerky supply for a certain mud puppy."

Yes, the "dog" patio is more or less finished. We had it installed to try to get rid of the patch of dirt (mud) at the base of the deck stairs where we could never get grass to grow because the dogs' feet hit it so hard going up and down the stairs. There was about a one foot buffer around the completed patio where we are trying some sod. It isn't doing too well right now, but maybe with a few weeks and some persistent supervision, we can get it to grow. Right now, Ciara is exercising her "ungardening" skills in trying to remove it. Next spring we are either going to try a few shrubs around the patio or maybe just some potted plants in the corners. Mom has little hope for shrubs with three boy pups in the pack:) And yes, little Lightning, who isn't so little any more, has already learned to lift his leg at only five months old.

We will leave you with a short video of some sibe fun. Sorry there are no sightings of Phantom in the video. He has had a few off days and is preferring the sunpuddles in the family room.

  1. Oh I love the brick pattern. we are having the same problem with my duo right off the deck too. We have areas fenced off in the yard right now that we are working on getting the grass to grow and be nice and plus before taking it down to better withstand the 4 legged monsters. LMAO Lil Light already lifting his leg. That cracks me up. We send our love to mr thunder.

  2. we love the brick pattern and think your dog patio looks very nice. Potted plants could be a very good solution for boy doggies.

We are getting a new septic system and while us cats are hiding under the furniture, Fenris is keeping an eye on things from the window and would like to be out there in the middle of them supervising and getting in the way.

  5. Stamped concrete? I ask, because new walkways are in our future, and the Knight always kills those discussions by insisting he wants a patio off the front of the house. Yours is pretty enough that isn't as scary as it has been... but don't tell him I said that!

  6. The dog patio looks great! Nice way to handle the dirt situation. We have three bald spots in the yard, but they are randomly located. I think Dad might have gotten a little happy with the weed killer. Good luck with the shrubs!

  14. Gentle woos to Phantom, sending feel better energy and lots of positive thoughts. The launch pad looks great and WILL be the perfect sun warmed place for autumn Sibe naps...if the energizer bunnies ever wind down enough from their zoomies to need one!

  15. OMD/OMC I know you did not ask, and probably don't want, my feline opinion...but that never stopped me (MOL) here goesL
You 4 beautiful woofies are the luckiest woofies to have 2 leggers who installed a special paw landing pad just for your tooties. Just think how nice it will feel come winter not to be stepping in a puddle of cold mud that might require you all to have the dreaded "b" word.
    Hugs from your BFFF,
    Madi

  21. Oooo. We has one of those pawtios at the bottom of our deck steps, too coz of the muds mom says. But see, when you dig (on that new sod there) make sure your behind is on the pawtio so when the dirt kicks back on it, it makes mud ON the pawtio. Ingenious, no?

  44. It's unanimous: the moms love the patio and the doggies love the mud. Mama is decidedly envious of your lovely, sturdy new patio. And we do have enough mud in the rest of the yard that we could spot her a patio.
