Phantom on Friday

 Notice anything different about me????

Do I look a bit whiter?

How about nicely brushed furs with no pluckables?

Yep, this lucky boy got to have the dreaded B.A.T.H. yesterday.  I am not a fan of baths at all, but Mom said I was looking pretty shabby, my toe furs were so long I was tripping on them, and my nails were curling into circles.  Well, maybe it wasn't that bad, but even I will admit I am pretty happy with how I look now.  BUT I may also have figured out a great way to avoid having to do it again for a very long time.

You know I am a pup of few words, but bear with me, this is a bit of a long story.  It all started very early Thursday morning.  The groomer requires us to get there by 7:30 a.m.  Mom wanted to be sure I was one of the first to arrive so I wouldn't have to stay there too long.  So about 7:10 a.m. I got into her new 2013 Highlander (well, she got it in January so it still has a bit of that new car smell - well, maybe it doesn't now, but I am getting ahead of myself).  Mom left me in the very kind hands of our nice groomer lady who gave me lots of pets and hugs.  She headed home for a bit and then off she went to the grandbipeds' home to an Easter egg decorating party.

While she was there, it had started to snow but not too badly.  Right before she was ready to leave to go home, she got the call that I was ready.  She would be going right by the vet's where the groomer is so she decided to pick me up on the way.  No problem.

As she was walking to the building, she noticed that the sidewalk was a little slippery.  Since she didn't have her boots on and since she hasn't had the best track record with slipping, falling, and breaking bones, she asked the vet tech if he would bring me to the car for her.  Yes, that beautiful new shiny black with leather seats vehicle.  No problem, John was very accommodating and brought me to the car and I got a treat from him too.

We started to head home and suddenly I became very agitated.  I am always very well-behaved in the car, but something was wrong.  Mom was on a very busy road and was having a hard time figuring out what was wrong with me.  But it wasn't long before she realized that my frantic pawing at the door and window meant only one thing.  She had forgotten to ask John to let me have a potty break before I got in the car, yes, that very new and nice car.  Do you see where this story is going?  I tried so hard to wait until we were home, but I had no control.  It just happened.  Within seconds, the new car smell changed to something very unpleasant.  I won't go into the details, but I was just mortified.  This is something I NEVER NEVER do, even in the house, no matter how sick I am.  Mom says it wasn't my fault, I just got too nervous over the whole experience and my tummy got upset.

So . . . . Mom spent the next two hours working hard to clean the car and to clean me.  I was a mess because I was so upset I was jumping all over the place in the car, and my beautiful clean furs were smeared with some ugly brown.  After a long time, she knew she had gotten the inside of the car as clean as she was going to be able to do with her limited supply of cleaning resources (not to mention her very sore back).  There was only one solution. Today the vehicle spent the day getting a B.A.T.H. too - at the detailer's.  They used some heavy duty enzyme cleaners and sucked all the stinks out of the carpet and the leather (the seats are perforated if you get what I mean).  It smells different now, pretty good actually.  Mom is just hoping they got it all out so that when our 100+ degree summer days get here, she won't have to ride around with all the windows open.

All in all, it was one very expensive B.A.T.H.

I can't believe I am even telling you this actually happened, but it just might be a way to avoid a B.A.T.H.

OK, I will let her put this one in of all of us - maybe they can have a B.A.T.H. adventure soon too:)

Woos, Phantom

  18. Oh, no! Phantom, you were being so good to let your mom know that you needed to go "outside." It was just unfortunate that you were in a moving vehicle. Everything is clean now.

  19. Poor Mom, Phantom, and Highlander! Well, the moral of this story is: Poop happens. We are just glad your Mommy is smart and loving and realizes this was an accident. Isn't it great to have good humans? Happy weekend, furriends!

Pee Ess - you look great, Phantom!

  20. Oh Handsome! This one is ALLLL your mom's fault. Period. Don't you worry your handsome self about anything. Serves her right for trying to give a husky a B.A.T.H. Oh wait, i had to give JBJ one for all the poison oak she transmitted to me recently. Sigh. Woo Should have seen the stink eye I got for that! Oh well, go easy on your mom for this boo-boo. Some day, she'll be perfectly potty trained (as in trained to remember to potty the poor newly bathed pup!) Arrooo! We're sure those smells won't resurface this summer.

BTW: woo look more handsome every day!

  21. O M D. That is a sad and smelly story. We feel sorry for both you and your mum. Phantom we know you held on for as long as you could. Oh dear, dear, dear. Sorry it happened mates and we hope all the smell is gone, gone, gone especially with summer coming. Sorry but mum had a little laugh cause she was imagining what it would be like if it happened with Rory!! Take care mates and enjoy your weekend. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  22. Hey Big Phantom!

Not your fault at all! I am sure you felt embarrassed but no need for that. I can understand your Mom not wanting to go out on the ice too, so as Prancer Pie said, Poop happens!

    Cheers,
    Stella and Zkhat

  23. Poor Phantom and poor Mom too! We smile reading your story but at the same time we can immagine how you felt about this small " accident" ....
Now you are clean again and your car smells good again, even better than new, so everything is all right and we bet your Mom won't forget to ask you if you need to "visit" a tree before you get into the car!
    You look stunning now!
    Nice regards

  24. Sorry Phantom but we are cracking up with your bath/poop story. Poor you and poor mum and poor car. I was sick once in my peeps wellies and once in her designer handbag. Shit happens, LOL! Actually joking aside we hope your tummy is OK today and it was just nerves.
    Have a super Saturday.
    Best wishes Molly

  25. Phantom, i won't worry about that very much if i were you. New cars are meant to be "doggy proof" and marked. Lol!

Happy national puppy day to all you woos, stay puppy forever!

  26. OOPS! We know you didn't mean to have an accident, Phantom!

  28. Oh you poor woofie!! I feel for you, I get SO scared anytime I get in the car I do the same thing :( Luckily it's usually when I'm on the way to the vet and they can clean me up when we get there and I'm fine on the way back home...

You have a wonderfully mummy for not getting cross with you.

  29. To borrow a thought from Khyra, "Phantom, you look Phabulous". As for the car (old or new), we are of the humble opinion that a car is just a car and not at all as impawtent as woofies or humoms, so happy that the two of you came through it all just fine. (And our humom says she'll not buy a vehicle with perforated upholstery.)

  30. You look fabulous, Phantom!

I don't like the BATH day either but I do like to look pretty after the spa thing. In fact, I just had it this morning and I'm fluffy and beautiful now.

  31. We always know that car rides make Sam have an urgent need to go, and if he starts squeaking it means "PULL THE CAR OVER IMMEDIATELY!". Yikes! So far we haven't had an accident, but after reading your story - we hope we will never need too!

  32. Now you and the car had a "grooming" together. I was in the same dilemma once and as my dad tried to lift me out of the car he has a brown surprise on his hand :o)

  33. Oh noes Phantom! Like your mom, we know it wasn't your fault and we know you felt horrible about doing that in her brand new SUV (Sibe Utility Vehicle) but at least it's all cleaned up now and you look incredibly handsome! We think "stuff" like that plus sand and mud is why Daddy had to keep his old SUV (Sadie Utility Vehicle). :)

  34. Oh Phantom, that is awful, you poor thing. I bet you were mortified. And Mom too. What a day for you two. Guess you taught that Mom a lesson. Hope you have a great weekend.

  35. That is quite a tale, Phantom! Of course, you have our total support. Sometimes the call of nature is urgent.... But you may right, your Mom may indeed think thrice before doing this to you again...

  37. Oh dear! I'm sorry to hear that, Phantom. Well, yesterday while my parents were driving to have me boarded for the weekend they had to stop over for a potty break for me because I was the whiniest pug in the world. Point being, things happen, don't beat yourself up over it please!

    Love,

    Bunk.

  38. PHantom! You are a GENIUS buddy. We know it wasn't your fault. Us Sibes never have accidents and we're so clean all the time. This was the GROOMER's fault!

Now, the groomer should be punished and their punishment will be that you'll never go again. That will teach em!

  39. Oh Phantom, the very week that Rob picked up his new car we drove 300 miles to visit my family. Just before we started the long drive home again, my dog Libby found the cat box and indulged. Not ten miles into the 300 mile drive, she vomited the cat poop all over the back seat. It was December and we drove the rest of the way with the windows open and I had to listen to Rob grumble for 300 miles. That took care of that disgusting new car smell.

  45. WOW! That was definitely an adventure. I'm sorry you had to go through that, poor thing. It wasn't your fault at all. Maybe your momma won't make you take a terrible BATH again.

  46. Oh Phantom, it happens to the best of us. Right after we moved to Seattle, and before Dad moved, Kat got sick and one night, about 2 AM, she pooped in the bathroom and it was all bloody. Mom freaked out and loaded us up to go to the emergency vet. Mom decided to take me to the emergency vet too because she thought I would woo if left home alone and since we were living in an apartment, she was worried about the neighbors. At the emergency vet, she left me in the car while she took Kat in to see the doctor. Well I totally freaked out and did some damage of my own to the back of the 4Runner. Once Mom and Kat got back in the car, we had a stinky ride home and then Mom spent more time, again in the middle of the night, trying to get the car clean. She wasn't very happy, but I was just so upset. At least our 4Runner wasn't new. Your poor mom!

  47. OMD! Mabel Lou did this very thing the day I sprung her from doggie jail... she wanted OUT so bad I didn't make her go potty... she had 'read' my face and KNEW which car was mine! A few minutes later, she relaxed and ... goodbye new car smell! Poor Phantom!!!

  48. Aww, poor Phantom! Riley pooped in my car once when she was a puppy on the way to the dog park. Luckily, she was in the cargo area of my car that's lined with plastic--phew! I could definitely smell it as soon as it happened though, and I didn't have any paper towels with me so I had to sort of clean it up with poop bags at the dog park. Ah, good times with dogs pooping in our cars. At least mine wasn't brand new!! My sister drives a Highlander, but it isn't new.
