Thunder on Tuesday

Not much has changed since we last posted.  I have gotten hungry - Mom says it is from my medicine.  But when I get near the food, I just don't want it.  Mom has been trying all the ideas from the vets and from all my friends.  I am really only interested in plain chicken and not too much, please and thank you.  I will also eat some peanut butter on toast and a little bit of yogurt, but please don't overdo it.

My favorite thing right now is my water bowl.  Mom says she is tired of filling it so many times, but that same medicine makes me very thirsty.  I have been pretty good about getting outside on time to relieve myself, but I had a couple of accidents today.  I just couldn't wait long enough for Mom to get to the door.

I spend most of my time lying down like this.  You can see in these two photos that my tummy is a bit bloated - medicine again.   And just think, I have at least two weeks at this high dose, and maybe more.  I am going to look like a blimp pretty soon.

I do get up now and then and look at Mom with my pleading eyes - do something to make this go away, Mom.  Mom says you can see how skinny I am getting.  Sheesh, she has been wanting me to lose weight for a long time, and now she isn't happy.  I will turn this post over to Mom now.

The Momster here - just to bring you all up to speed.  Last week we saw one of the several vets at our clinic. We have seen her many times before and she is a very good doctor.  Our regular vet Dr. N was on vacation.  He is back now and I spoke with him on Monday.  He told me to start the antibiotics again because he wants to be sure we aren't missing anything by way of an infection or a tick-borne disease.  The tick thing was at least initially ruled out by the snap test that was done on Thursday.  Meanwhile we are scheduled to see the internal specialist on Thursday.  I couldn't believe how difficult it was to get a quick appointment.  We have three local specialty clinics and they were all booked.  Of course, if Thunder were to take a nose dive, he would be seen as an emergency.  But for now, although not eating much and still having very pale gums, he is holding his own.  He has me up three to four times a night for potty time, but I would rather he wake me than deal with an accident and then the monkey-see monkey-do behavior from Mr. Lightning.  So for now, we are in a holding pattern and going nuts waiting.  Once again, we thank you all for your good thoughts and crossed paws.

Woos - Thunder and Momster

  6. Get well, Thunder! Momster - have you tried feeding him Cesar dog food? To many dogs, it's irresistible. As is Biljac dog food, which is made with liver. Good luck and saying prayers for you.

  9. I am sorry to read this and to know sweet Thunder is not doing well. I can so understand as we go through very much similar with lots of drinking but for us its easier as Jasper uses a litter tray. The eating is a nightmare and we also try everything possible to tempt. I have sweet thunder in my thoughts and hope the meds help. Hugs GJ and Carol x

  15. We're so sorry that Thunder still isn't eating like he should. We hope the specialist is able to figure out what is causing him to feel so sick. Dave, Zim and Camo (Ciara's half sisfur) from Manhattan go to the vets at K-State so we're wondering if the vets there could offer any ideas. We just want Thunder to be better soon! Sending lots of purrs!

PeeS: We had to giggle about monkey-see monkey-do Lightning!

  17. We were just getting caught up a little on blogs and saw your posts about Thunder! (Plus our Beaded Tail pals let us know.) I'm so sorry to hear he's having health problems! It sounds like you're getting all kinds of ideas on what to try to entice Thunder into eating. Did your vet give you any a/d to try for him? Or even canned kitten or puppy food? Just a couple strange ideas.
If by chance you get referred here to KSU, please let me know. I would be happy to give you a place to stay or do anything I can to help out. You and Thunder are in my prayers.

  40. Dear Thunder and Mom...we are also behind in reading and am very sorry to find out that you are not well. Prednisone can be a miracle drug yet has the opposite affect on our mama...she really does look like a blimp. It makes her VERY hungry and thirsty and a little high strung!! 41. We are thinking of you and Thunder and we know the worry must be awful and no matter how much you try you can't help it. We have done the chicken and rice thing so many times we now know to just chuck all the rice on the floor and just eat the chicken to the annoyance of the peeps. Maybe a yoghurt and peanut butter smoothie kind of thing? We assume they checked Thunders' teeth. Anyway rambling here. Our paws are crossed real tight for tomorrow.
    Best wishes Molly
