Thursday Thanks and Thoughts

Let's start with the thoughts and get the bad stuff out of the way before we celebrate some good news.

On July 29th we began the gradual decrease in seizure medication for Ciara from three tablets of Keppra a day to two.  One week later on August 5th, she went to one tablet a day.  On Tuesday of this week, August 12th,  she was off Keppra entirely.

Last night around 11:00 p.m. Mom and Dad were awakened by the familiar thumping sound that told them Ciara was in full seizure mode.  Length and intensity were about the same as all of her previous ones, about four minutes of thrashing, salivating, uncontrolled urination, the whole works.  Needless to say, we are all very disappointed since she hasn't had a seizure since the end of February.  Was it because we took her off the Keppra?  We don't know for sure, she had been on it for about 8 weeks, with a two week break in between the end of her being in the study and the start of the Keppra.  Mom will be talking to the neurologist today to get his input, but we suspect we will be putting her back on the Keppra.  That's not really a bad thing, but given that she is only 4 1/2, we were hoping to keep her off seizure medication as long as possible.  We will update you as things go on.

As you can tell from the pics Mom took today, she is just fine this morning.

NOW for the good news and the reason for today's thankfulness.

Miss Gypsy got some relatively good news back from the ultrasound report.  Although the internal specialist and the radiologist are not ready to completely rule out the evil "C", they believe Gypsy had some sort of major gastrointestinal upset that impacted her gall bladder.  Then in sort of a domino effect, the spleen reacted.  She is now on some meds for her tummy and the intestinal buildup of gas, as well as a tablet for her gall bladder to try to help reset things.

Mom was at the grandbipeds house yesterday and tried to get some more recent photos of the old gal.

Little "C" tries the finger point tactic to get Gypsy to look at the flashy beast while big sis "K" and twin bro "J" look on.

Then J moves in with a more hands-on approach.

Maybe three hands will help.  (Note the docked tail - this is the sweetie who had major happy tail issues a few years ago - but she sure can wag that stump wildly.)

Grandma, hold on, we are getting closer.

There we go!!!

Look at that happy lab smile!!!

Even better, Gypsy!!!

And the best of all from happy Gypsy!!!

Gypsy seems to be feeling a lot better this week.  We are sure all of your good thoughts and crossed paws helped a lot.  Now let's hope she continues on the road to full recovery

Thank you from all of us.

Woos - Phantom, Ciara, Lightning, and Cousin Gypsy
