Hello, my friends. It's Phantom here today.
Every Monday our morning paper carries whole page advertisements for these things:
Small, convenient, hardly visible at all. I think they are called hearing aids.
They say they only require an occasional battery change.
Mom says they actually cost lots of dollars and don't always work very well.
Have you noticed that I seem to have one of those odd contraptions in my left ear?
It started growing there about two months ago. Like those hearing aids above, it used to be almost invisible. For some strange reason it keeps getting bigger and bigger.
I think I have to agree with Mom that it really doesn't work very well for me either. I can't hear much of anything these days. I am not sure it really is a hearing aid.
Hmmmm, maybe I need to take it out and get some new batteries???
What's that, Mom? I can't hear you. It can't come out? Well, what good is it?
Oh well, Mom says no worries, that I seem to be able to understand lots of hand signals.
My favorite is the one that has the cookie in it:)

Dear friend, the trials of growing older are sometimes quite the nuisance! But if this does not cause you pain, and lets you selectively choose what not to hear sometimes and if cookies come with learning hand signals...then we say roll with the punches and enjoy!
ReplyDeleteCookies? Did someone mention cookies?
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom my sweet hand signals with cookies are the best and milk for all it is worth we say. Have a terrific Tuesday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Sometimes I has selective hearing when the peeps talk to me but never when cookies are involved
ReplyDeleteLoves and licky kisses

We love your eyes too Phantom! Actually Chloe is going to the vet this morning to find out what is going on with a weird thing growing in her ear too. We sure hope that it is nothing. Cookies are good Phantom! Hope you are feeling well! xo Chloe and LadyBug
ReplyDeleteSorry you are having trouble hearing Phantom. Enjoy your cookies.
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom, we are so sorry that darn thing decided to grow in your ear. It is OK if you can't hear. And what a good reason to get extra cookies since you have to carry around that extra weight in your ear. You have the greatest Mom, Phantom since she has such a good attitude about all this goings on with getting old. Big hugs to you Phantom.
ReplyDeleteI like that cookie-hand sign too and I hope your mom will show you this sign 87 times per day. Send you a big hug and a kiss.
ReplyDeleteEasy Rider
We would give you a million cookies if we were there!! You are such a handsome dude. Stuff like that happens to all of us who get old. Our Angel Astro had one of those on his lower eyelid but, because he was as old as you are, we didn't get it removed. We loved him so much just like your family loves you.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about that thing in your ear. We cocker spaniels get stuff like that all the time. The older we get, the more lumps and bumps we get; and they are mostly benign.
ReplyDeleteHope you got a lot of cookies, Phantom!
We like that hand signal too Phantom
ReplyDeleteYou are such a handsome boy, no matter the lumps
hugs

PHANTOM WITH THOSE GORGEOUS EYES YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET COOKIES, DIAMONDS, FURS AND WELL ANYTHING YOU WANT.
ReplyDeleteHUGS A TON MADI YOUR BFFF
"Cookie" works in any language, spoken or signed!
ReplyDeleteAw bless him. Bet he uses his nose too. I always teach pups hand signs when they are learning all the basics.
ReplyDeleteAfter having one very deaf dog years ago. She used to get around and you would never have known she was deaf. She used to love fireworks.
Good lad Phantom, hugs and luvs to you big guy. :-) x
It isn't easy growing old, is it Phantom? I don't hear very well either and my eyesight is poor, but we manage. Be well, my friend.
ReplyDeleteMorgan
We hope your "hearing aid" goes away. We are going to start using paw signals with mom
ReplyDeleteLily & Edward
Oh, yeah. Hand signals with COOKIES in them are soon much easier to understand! Ha roo! Mom said that's a good reminder that she wants us girls to understand more hand signals. Both Stormy and Zimmie lost a lot of their hearing and she was thankful that they had developed some hand signals they could understand.
ReplyDeleteCammie!
PS: Thank you for the beautiful Christmas card!!!!
Can you get the radio on it :)
ReplyDeleteMum always says that we dogs understand hand signals way better than verbal commands.

As a senior lady in my golden years, I have what is referred to as "selective hearing." Dad thinks I'm totally deaf, butt mom knows better ;-)

Oh Phantom :( I am sorry pal!
ReplyDeleteI hope it stops growing soon :(
ღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
Oh, sweet Phantom. You just need to know when the good things are coming--stuff like food and walks. That kinda stuff. And I bet you don't need anything growing in your ear to know that!!
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a hearing aid review. My mother can't hear a thing!2608
ReplyDeleteThe pack definitely enjoys the hand signal with treats on one hand.
