Phantom here on this Friday afternoon.
Remember this ugly thing in my ear?
Notice anything different? Yep, it is gone. A couple of weeks ago, the nasty tumor burst just like that one on my tail did. There was lots and lots of blood everywhere in the kitchen. Mom couldn't get it to stop bleeding. That was a huge worry because the vet doesn't want to have to put me under anesthesia to do surgery. But as Mom says, the miracle vet worked his magic again and managed to remove it with me getting just a local shot of lidocaine. Of course, he went on and on about how wonderful I was through the whole procedure. I have a couple of stitches that will come out tomorrow.
I have been managing to get outside even if I had to wear that coat when it was bitter cold here for days.
And we even got a tiny bit of snow a while ago too. Coat time again!!!
I don't get to stay out too long.
But I do enjoy patrolling the perimeter.
I do have one other problem that we are all trying to deal with. I seem to fall down a lot. For some reason my rear legs just don't want to hold me up. At first Mom thought I was just slipping on the floor even though she does have lots of scatter rugs around to help me. But this was different as I was sometimes falling on the carpet too. After another visit to the vet and some more tests, it was determined that old age isn't so much fun. I have been diagnosed with a condition called proprioceptive deficiency. This link will tell you all about it: Click HERE. Basically I don't have any feeling in one of my rear legs and the other one isn't so good either. I have to be very careful on the stairs, but luckily I only have to go down a few to get outside. Mom may have to get me a ramp at some point, but I am managing for now.
I do a lot of this because it is the most comfortable position for me. And no, I don't like a comfy bed under me. Mom keeps trying though.
But I am always good for a nice pose if there might be some cookies involved.
We haven't been blogging much lately, but we are working on the Momster to get on the stick. She is headed out of town for the next week so we may once again be MIA. I am going to be staying with that nice vet man so I am sure to get good care. Ciara and Lightning will be testing out a new boarding place because our vet's clinic isn't doing boarding any more, except for very special boys like me.
Have a great weekend.

Oh Phantom, so glad that deal in your ear is gone. What a great vet you have.
ReplyDeleteAnde, our dog, commiserates with you about falling down. Mom thinks she may have the same thing as you. Her hind legs just don't work very well and has fallen down some. She has a terrible time getting up and down the steps.
Hope the peeps have a good trip next week.
WE are So glad that the thingy burst and that it only took a little shot to get it stitched up...
ReplyDeleteWe are SORRY to hear about your leg and that you can't be outside fur 87 hours... butt it is GOOD that you have your warm coat so that you can be out fur a while and then get back in where it is WARM and Dry and Comfortable fur you.
Phantom, you have been such a trooper with all your old age things lately! We're so happy to see your handsome face though and are glad the nice vet man will be watching over you while your mom is gone. We're sending lots of purrs to you and our mommy is sending tons of snooter smooches! Yep, she's one of those crazy snooter smooching moms!
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see you again! Our old Charisma dog had ankylosing spondylitis in her spine which caused her to eventually lose the use of her back legs. It's a type of arthritis, and would show up on an x-ray. She was quite elderly by that time. We're glad your ear got better! Stay warm now, my friend!
ReplyDeleteGlad things are manageable, Phantom, and that you got some snow! Enjoy your 'holiday'. Hope the new kennel is good for the siblings.
ReplyDeleteGlad that ear thingie went away....now about that falling down....well Shadow has a lot of sympath for you...she has that aruther-rightes in her rear hips and has trouble getting up.

Phantom I'm so glad that it went well with that tumors. Paws are crossed that all things will look good when the stitches come out. Our Frosty had such an evil thingy on his butt and the darned thingy bursted too, I agree with you, to see all that blood around is such a scary thing. But to have such a fabulous vet is the best thing ever...
ReplyDeletehugs to you and the whole woo-furmily

ReplyDeleteWe had a Help 'em up Harness for Sam - it was so nice because when he got wobbly there was a handle I could grab to help him around - including up steps. It also saved my back! Phantom is still looking good!

Oh Phantom I know you are Mr Blue Eyes but I must say to me it's your ears and snooter that are the handsomest of any woofie I know!
ReplyDeleteYou and your Momster are so brave to deal with life's tricky bits. The harness Monty and Harlow suggested sounds worth thinking about, although I know Phantom hates restraints.
I hope all of you get cookies today. Maybe one for the Momster too :)
Melon
You look very handsome in that coat, Phantom!
ReplyDeleteWe're glad the tumour has gone away. Sorry about your leg, though. We know your Mom will do everything to make things easier for you.

Dear Phantom,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad to read, that you are feeling good, even if your old legs don't want to work properly sometimes! It seams to me you enjoy your life a lot and you look always very happy!
We love you and your pack very much!
Arno
Hey Phantom! We both take a lickein' and keep on tickin'! I just got over an eye infection. But I'm still a happy guy. Mom looks me in the eye every day and asks me how I'm doing. We have a deal. When I'm not happy anymore....well you know. We have a deal. Enjoy your time with Mr. Vet. I love my vet, too!!
ReplyDelete-Bart
So good to see you Phantom! I'm glad that your vet got that "invader" out of your ear without a blink from you - you're a brave boy. I'm sorry your back legs are failing you - kind of scary I'm sure....but as long as you're not hurting and you are a happy boy, I say "rock on Phantom!!"......At our age we do what we can and ignore the discomforts because we want to be with our humans AND our furry siblings. You're my hero.
ReplyDeleteLove, Sammy
We are so happy that you are now tumor-less, Phantom, but we are sorry about your rear legs and we hope the ramp will help you out. You sure do look handsome in your sporty blue coat!

pees: tell Lightning that I've been hoping he's stayin' outta trouble...hehehehehehehehehehe
We're glad your doctor was able to remove that thing from your ear. You must feel happy that it's gone.
ReplyDeleteMom knows about proprioceptive deficiency. That was the first indication to us that Tsar was sick. He didn't seem to know where his front feet were. Sometimes one foot would step on the other one. Though we were hoping for an infection, it turned out to be a tumor on the brain stem and kept getting worse.
Take it easy and let your peeps help you.

Glad you snow dogs got some snow. Sorry about your wobbly legs, Phantom. My sister, Stanzie is wobbly sometimes too. Her walks are much shorter, so she insists on more car rides!
ReplyDeleteWyatt
Oh Phantom, getting old sure isn't for sissies. We kinda like your coat, we are sorry you don't like it more. Enjoy your stay at the vet, we know they will spoil the very special Phantom rotten. And you so deserve it.

ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
arwooo...dearest Phantom. And sending you my very best healing and comforting purrrrs. You are such a brave senior and role model to us all
ReplyDeleteHi Woo Brother Phantom, I love seeing the photos of you, its nice you get to go out in the snow in your coat even if it's only for a perimeter check, you look so handsome, all fluffy! I'm glad to hear that your ear lumpy has gone, you must be so very brave to let the Vet stitch your ear up, it sounds like you were very good for your Momma and the Vet! I'm proud of you! I'm very sorry to hear about your little back leggers though, old age definitely does not come on its own, but maybe a ramp will help and as long as you are happy just relaxing on that wood floor then all is ok, I hope Ciara and Lighting are looking after you and don't play too rough with you? Do you still like to play? Sending prayers to you as always, hope to see more of the pack soon, my Momma hasn't been that good with our visiting and blogging ourselves, it's a busy time of year! All my love to you Woos! Love and Licks from your little honorary Woo furiend Frank XxxxxxxxX
ReplyDeleteHI Phantom! It's so wonderful to see you. Glad that nasty thing burst on its own - though I bet that was stressful for your mom.
ReplyDeleteAngel Pip used to fall down a lot, too. His back legs became so stiff (though they were much shorter than yours) and he couldn't bend them much.
Glad you are getting outside!
So happy to hear the tumour burst on it's own and the vet was able to remove it. You must feel great without it in your ear.
ReplyDeleteLoving the coat Phantom, very you:)
Dip and Elliot x
That's really great news about your tumor deciding to burst! And your vet ROCKS for stitching you up using a local. You're a VERY special boy!
ReplyDeleteI have to say ... we both think you look REALLY handsome in your blue coat! It brings out your eyes.
Stay warm!
Cammie!
Phantom, so happy the tumor is gone! Woo! We hope your hind end issue stays at bay...you look so very beautiful and definitely rock that blue coat! Big Husky hugs from me and the Five!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read of Phantom's troubles!!!
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom, what a good boy! Old age sure does bring it's trials. We remember Auntie Penny and her wobbles and aches and pains. You is holding up very well.
