Tuesday's Tale of the Tail

The good news of the day is that I was freed of the conehead yesterday.

Over the weekend I decided to try my paw (or mouth) at surgery to help out the very nice Dr. B.  Unbeknownst to Mom, I did some nibbling on that ugly beast on my tail.  Late Saturday Mom discovered a trail of blood spots leading to my crate.  Since it was too late to see Dr. B., she decided that the only recourse she had was to clean the area and cone me until Monday.

Dr. B. was not too impressed with my talents and told me I needed to return to medical school for a good long time.  Meanwhile he did say that he thinks the cryosurgery is beginning to work on the lumps despite my unappreciated help.  Although it has never been a desirable choice to bandage my tail, that is just what he did.  Two days in this contraption, remove it, check the area, and probably rebandage.  I can't complain too much because at least I don't have to wear that darn cone.

Yes, Mom, I really do understand that is not a sausage link hanging off Phantom's back end.  I promise to leave it alone.

Please join Ciara in crossing your paws for the old man.

Besides all the tail issues, Phantom's mobility took a big downturn over the past week.  Lots of back end crashing down, and a very hard time standing in place to eat.  His back hips and knees seem to be weakening considerably.  So Dr. B. recommended an increase in one of his pain meds to see if we can make him more comfortable.  Doubling his tramadol results in a lot of deep sleep, and we do mean a LOT.  Mom isn't too crazy about this part of things, but she is going to see how things go.

When he wakes up, he is a bit on the groggy side.

Groggy???  Me???? I am wide awake now and ready for some yummy treats.

And before we close, thanks once again for all the good thoughts and POTP for Mr. P.

Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning

  8. Howdy Phantom. Mate, I totally relate to chewing on body parts (especially our own) and let me tell ya, it does not make our mums happy. Did ya tail taste like chicken??? Don't chew it again ok cause the cone is a pain in the butt even though it's around your head. Does that even make sense?? Take care old fella. Love ya heaps and sending gentle hugs to you. No worries, and slobbery love, Rory and Stella

  33. Phantom my dear friend you must leave "Mr. Sausage" alone! You do not have surgical training so you need to leave that to your vet OK? You don't want to have to wear THE CONE again now do you? I'm so sorry you're having to up your pain meds but naps are great....and even if it takes you a while to get alert I can see that you are sending your Mom some LOVE with those big blueies!!
