Tasty Tuesday

During the month of August, we are doing a triple post review of two different products provided to us by Chewy.com.  You can read our first post HERE.  The details of the two products are provided in that post.

The first product is this Solid Gold Leaping Waters Cold Water Salmon & Vegetable Recipe Grain-Free Adult Dry Dog Food.  Lightning has been trying this kibble for about a week now.

And the second is the Solid Gold SunDancer 95% Chicken Recipe Grain-Free Canned Dog Food.  Both Ciara and Lightning have been eating this chicken recipe for about a week as well.

"Isn't it time for dinner YET???  Those bowls need to be filled with all the yummy goodness of those Solid Gold products the nice Sydney from Chewy.com sent to us."

"Uh, a little help here, please, Mom!!!  We don't think our paws are capable of opening that can."

Update from Mom:

Lightning is now getting about a 50/50 blend of the Solid Gold salmon and vegetable blend kibble mixed with the kibble he has been eating for a few years now.  He seems to enjoy it very much which is not at all surprising.  Lightning LOVES anything that has fish in it.  He has a hearty appetite and seems to devour the kibble with gusto.  The only negative I have noticed is that he seems to be a bit on the gassy side.  I am hoping that this is due to the change in diet and that it will pass over time.  His stools are firm and perhaps a tad smaller than usual.  And he always looks forward to mealtime.

Ciara is not getting this kibble because she seems to have a sensitive tummy.  In the past when we have had to change the dogs' dry food because of safety recalls, we have had problems with diarrhea and vomiting with her.  She is now on a "limited" ingredient turkey-based kibble with which we have been very happy.  Since kibble makes up the main part of the dogs' meals, I didn't want to risk any changes for her at this time.  She also loves fish and would most likely enjoy the kibble too.

Both dogs are enjoying the grain and gluten free chicken recipe of the can shown above.  It is a holistic recipe and can be used for dogs of all life stages.  Both Ciara and Lightning are testing this product.  If the can is not refrigerated initially (it must be refrigerated after opening), the consistency is very soft, a little thicker than a bowl of oatmeal.  Once refrigerated, it gets a more solid texture.  Either way works well for me.  I only give Ciara about a tablespoonful of it once a day, while Lightning gets about twice as much.  I am easily able to hide her thyroid medication in the canned food.  Both dogs always eat the canned food first.  I don't mix it with the kibble, just lay it on top:)  Needless to say, it is gone in a split second.  I highly recommend this Solid Good flavor, and I am sure both Ciara and Lightning would too.

"OK, enough talk - can you please fill those bowls now?"

Disclaimer:  We received both products from Chewy.com at no charge in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Chewy.com

I've mostly been feeding Shiver the same brand of food since I got him as a puppy and discovered earlier this year that he also has a sensitive tummy when I changed his food.
