T.G.I.F.

It's been a long hard week for a lot of us, so let's have some Friday fun.

Here we are out in our very dry yard - major lawn fail right now, but rain is here today.

Looks like somePeeps need to get busy raking.

BOL - we sure could have fun doing zoomies through those piles of leaves.

Look - it's our neighbor pal Cash the boxer (Cassius).  Wonder what he is up to!

Never mind the Momster, Ciara.
Look what is happening over there.

Meanwhile, the Momster says that we had best pay attention to her if we want the treats she has AND that we had best not be getting any ideas from what we see over there.  So are you curious to see what WE see?

It's Cash AND his older sister Laila - does something seem a bit odd over there?

Well, what do you know - they have a no-sibe fence too, or is that a no-boxer fence?  Guess Laila feels the same way about those human efforts as we do:)

Lastly, Ciara is here with her crossed paws to give you an update on her neurologist's thoughts.  Yesterday she had that paw hug for her pals, The Three Little Pugs.  This is actually a new photo today.  She is great at crossing those paws and is always willing to do so for her pals all over the world.  Maybe today we can let her cross them for herself.

Dr. C., her neurologist, discussed for a long time with Mom what has been happening over the past few months.  Last month he had some suspicions about the Keppra but needed to see a pattern before knowing for sure.  He believes that Ciara has left the "honeymoon" period with her Keppra.  Many humans and pets have a period of time from 9-12 months when the Keppra is very effective at a certain dosing level.  Then either an increase in the Keppra or an addition of another med is necessary.  Since Keppra is one of the safest anti-seizure meds with very few and very minor side effects, and since Ciara has been on a fairly low dose of it, he wants to try increasing her dose by 50%.  There is room for even more increases.  The hope is to buy another honeymoon period for her.  We should know pretty quickly if it is doing what it is supposed to do.  The benchmark is for her to have no more than one seizure per month for a long period of time.  Ciara does have idiopathic epilepsy, so there is a high likelihood that she will always have some seizures; the goal is to keep them at a minimum.  If this change in her dose doesn't work, we will be adding zonisamide to her meds.  Dr. C. likes to take a very conservative approach with Ciara because of her age.  Many of the other options can have negative effects on the liver and other organs.  He would like to hold off as long as we can before moving to those options.  As long as we can keep the frequency and intensity of her seizures down, Mom is happy with his plan.

So far she seems to be doing better, except for the huge surge in her appetite:)  This weekend could be a real challenge with thunderstorms in the forecast for tonight and a potential Series win for our Royals.  We really want our Royals to take the crown but no fireworks please!!!  Thanks again to all for your concern and good thoughts.

Woos - Ciara and Lightning and Mom too

  3. Well Ciara, we are all crossing our paws for you now. We so hope the increase in medicine works for a long time for you. Wonder if you could tolerate some ear plugs so you couldn't hear the thunder or cheering. Guess Mom has already thought of that. Anyway we wish the best to you and loved seeing the neighbors handy work on their fence. You all have a great day.

  4. I hope the med helps you that you can minimize the visits of the monster and I cross my paws that you can stay with that med what has not so much side effects. And I wish you a firework free time... why humans need always noises when they celebrate? they can wagg with their tail, that's a sign of joy too :o)

  13. Oh Ciara, it sounds overall like a good plan for you that your Mom and Dr. C have "cooked up"....upping your seizure meds and seeing how that works - ONE STEP AT A TIME. I'm crossing my paws that it works for you. You are such a BRAVE and beautiful girl....my prayer is that you can tolerate the increase in dose well and most of all that it WORKS keeping "the monster" away!

    Love and hugs, Sammy

  15. Can you hear fireworks from the K all the way at your house? Or is it because other people set them off? We're pulling for our Royals, but sure don't want a loud celebration to bring on a seizure for Ciara! :( We will try crossing our paws, too!!! We're thankful that there are options to try!!!
We haven't gotten ANY of that rain! Well, I take that back. We had 0.02" (that's 2/100) of an inch this morning. Mom said we need it BAD, but we'd rather not have to go through the whole feet wiping thing.
I hope your neighbors don't get in trouble!
    Yours sincerely,
    Mags

  19. We hope Ciara will do okay with the med and the t-storms.

We'd say how funny about the fence but it's more of a serious subject to their humans, we're sure.

Come on by. We're having a giveaway today.

  23. I enjoyed the view of the "no boxer" fence with Laila on the wrong side! Perhaps your Sibes have taught her a trick or two!

I hope that you buy another honeymoon period for Ciara. I can see your neurologist's point of view with Ciara being so young. We'll be thinking of her and all of you.

I agree - it's been a very rough week. I rarely say it but "TGIF" and let's leave last week behind us.

  29. We hope the adjustment works for Ciara. When Dad was on Keppra he had bad personality changes. When they changed him to a different med, they chose generic Dilantin which is
    really difficult to regulate :(
