Th-EARS-day Update

Mom seems to think I should be thankful today, so I am trying to feel good about this whole ear thing.

I am happy to report that there has been no more head shaking since my visit to the V.E.T.  BUT let me tell you it was not a fun trip.

Ciara, stop laughing at me.  You are lucky you weren't the one they were sticking things in.  I had scopes in my ears, Q-tips in my ears, plungers thingies in my ears, AND something stuck in that place under my tail that is off limits to humans in MY opinion.

The good news is that I found out there are NO earworms in there, no water, no bugs, and no potatoes.  We hope that makes Madi and Tweedles feel better since they were concerned about water and potatoes.  And my temp is normal.  I could have told them that without them having to stick that thing you-know-where.  What they DID find is a small amount of "debris" and some YEAST - I don't know what that is, but I sure hope it disappears soon.  The vet says it might just be an isolated infection, but there is also the chance it is allergy-related.  If things aren't all hunky dory by next week, then I have to get some steroid drops in my ears too - no way, I say!!!

That bottle on the floor in front of us is the magic potion to help eradicate that YEAST!!!

YIKES - I see TWO of those plunger thingies.  And a bottle of Mometmax.  Whatever, I just hope it works to the max

Hear me ROAR - I am not too happy about Mom sticking those things in my ears.  In fact, she made the V.E.T. do it yesterday.  She says it is no easy feat to get me to hold still long enough to do my ears.  So if any of your peeps want to take a road trip, head on over and lend her a few helping human paws.

Now I might be persuaded to cooperate a little better if Mom can find a lot of that salmon jerky I spy on the counter to share with me:)

Thanks to all for the many good thoughts you sent my way.

Woos - Lightning (and Ciara)

I apologize for my mom she could not resist....I told her this was SUPPOSED to be a serious comment in light of all the injustices you experienced yesterday. My goodness handsome boy they stuck stuffs in your tush...the nerve!! I don't blame you mom or getting the Vet to do the first med!!
I hope and purr you realize it is helping and make it easy for you mom to do the drops. I've never had ear drops but SEVERAL bouts of eye drops
    Hugs madi your bfff

  5. Oh, I'm way too familiar with that Mometamax stuff! (Fortunately, not those plunger thingies, though.) Did your vet have to flush your ear/s? I had to have that done once. Let me tell you, I am a VERY tolerant pup, but that was not a fun experience. When they let me shake my head after they squirted all the stuff in there, I flung stuff EVERYWHERE! It was awesome payback. Just something to keep in mind if you have to have that!
    Cammie!
    PS: You deserve TREATS!!!

  6. You know, you could have potatoe rolls? With the yeasts and the potatoes? Mmmm....rolls....but anyway, sorry about your ears. Tell mom you will sit still (not really) for treats! :)

  7. Oh Lightning, if we didn't live so far away, we would be right there to help the Mom. Ears on dogs or cats or donkeys are hard to treat but at least they will get better. Just hang in there, and your ears will feel better soon. Good luck Mom.

  9. yeast infections in our ears are pretty common - but they are easy to treat and usually clear up pretty fast - just make sure you get double treats for all the effort :)

  14. Howdy Lightning, sorry you've had ear trouble mate. Our cousin Tyler has had yeast trouble in his ears and he hates the stuffs getting squirted in his ear too. Just shut your eyes and think of the yummy treats you will get afterwards. Take care every buddy. No worries and love Stella and Rory

  16. Oh Lightening!! Ear stuff sucks!! I must say that as I've gotten older I can handle stuff like ear washes and hot spot spray that used todrive me out of my mind. Our moms are only trying to help us feel better. Trust the Momster...

  17. OMD!!!!! LIGHTNING!!! MY PAL!!!!!! I didn't knows you were havin' ear troubles!! Oh dude, I gets those all the time!!! I gots the allergies all my life, so I gots to take the Benadryls everyday! Ma says, unfortunately they do not make me sleepy...pffft! Anyhu, if it is just the allergies, Ma has the thing for you! (okays, so it IS more ear drops, butts at least it'll save you a trip to the vetties where they stick things where the sun don't shine!!!!)
It's called Zymox and you DON'T do the whole ear rinsing thing! I likes that! It works wonders, and has saved me 4 trips to the vetties so far! You put the drops in your ear for a week or two, depending on how bad the yuckies are, and voile! Here is a linky : http://www.chewy.com/s/brand_facet:Zymox?gclid=Cj0KEQjwqNiwBRDnq93MioaqtKQBEiQAb7Ezn_UDeeIkT2RpcJczjb-5GR8xCb2qyvKkfIf-iIWnP48aAjgu8P8HAQ

If there's a next time, and you start the head shakin', this might be the answer!
I am glads you are feelin' betters, sendin' you tons of healin' vibes, and sorry abouts the probing...
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  24. When you said plunger, Lightning, I kept imagining those things they use in the toilet.... Oh never mind!

Anyway, you have ALL my sympathy as I got to go to the vet today too. In actual fact I was accompanying Da Beebs who had a rash, but whilst I was there, #1 asked Dr. C to check out my prostate and there was an actual finger stuck up... Oh, NEVER MIND!!!! Anyway, I am fine! And glad you're better too.

  25. I thought maybe you were growing potatoes to help that astronaut lost on MARS! But I'm glad you're not shaking your ears now, and I hope you stay feeling good!

  26. That sounds like a very unfun trip to the vet, Lightning. Butt, I'm so glad that you don't have potatoes in your ear! I hope the meds work wonders. I wish I could help your mom - Shyla tends toward chronic ear problems so I have to clean her ears daily during swimming season. One trick that has helped me are to warm up the ear solution before I try to put it in. There's another trick involving a cottonball instead of the plunger thingy but I don't know if your vet would approve so I'll stay quiet about that one...

Be good for your mom, Lightning!

  27. Ah yes...the Siberian yeast in ear syndrome. My Mischa loved to make a den in any hedge or shrub in the yard. She would occasionally get a piece of shrub or leaf piece in her ears and voila!! Ear yeast infection. Glad Lightning is getting his ears all cleaned up

  28. On no! Usually pups with floppy ears have those issues... So sorry. Hope mom can get those drops in!
