Monday Mischievous Madness

This is just not fair!!!

It is still raining here, but that's not why Mom won't let us out.

Here is WHY!!!

We (most likely Lightning) chased this guy down into our window well.  And we can't get down there!

Mom has something to say now:  This window well is about 6 1/2 feet below ground level and there is no exit.  I can get in there through a basement window, but I am not doing that.  I need HELP!!!

The local animal control tells me to call Critter Control.  They want lots of green papers to get him out.  Operation Wildlife suggested putting a plank down that he would crawl up.  At first all I could find was this piece of baseboard, but the angle is too steep.  I also found a very long board that I have placed at a better angle, but it is only about four inches wide.  So far the rabbit isn't going near it.  He keeps trying to jump up but can't quite get high enough.

Poor guy is sopping wet.  Anyone out there have any other suggestions?

I do, Mom.  Just let me out there.  Or better still, put ME through the window, and I will take care of business  It will only cost you the effort to get me in and out.

Woos - Ciara and Lightning

  1. that is a tough one - looks like the only option is for someone to get a ladder and climb down and get him.

  2. Is it possible to put a box through the window with some lettuce on it? Maybe the little guy can jump from the box.

  3. Oh poor little rabbit. Do you have kids that live in your neighborhood?? Maybe a kid with gloves could come and put the rabbit in a box or cage if you have one and take it back outside. Maybe someone has a cat carrier around there. I sure hope you can figure out something for that little guy. In the meantime, give it some lettuce or a carrot. Good luck and keep us posted.

  6. Wow, what a cute little guy! My Dad suggests a net like for scooping up fish. They're pretty cheap at WallyWorld. I like the box or pet crate idea too if you can get it through the window. Pawsonally, I'd go for the net on a pole.

  7. DARN this is not going to have an EASY SOLUTION.... Wild Rabbits KICK with SHARP CLAWS and they BITE too... so they are Dangerous when trying to handle them...
We agree with Sarge about the Fish Net thingy.... EXCEPT... the bunny's legs will go through the Net and get tangled and then someone would have to Touch it to get it UNTANGLED.. and they BITE and KICK and SCRATCH...
SOOOOOO could We suggest the NET on the Pole... BUTT Pin a PILLOW CASE over the HOOP and put the Pillow case INSIDE the net so that the bunny is caught in the P.C... not in the NETTING...
Do you know any Fishermen/women who might have a fish net that you could BORROW long enough to get the bunny out?

  8. Awwww... poor little bunny. Maybe a bigger ramp, and some quiet time. I bet he'd figure it out. :-) Or a big cat carrier that you can rig to close when he goes in it.

    Goodluck getting him out!

We found you through the card exchange! Nice to meet you! Your card is going in the mail this week!

  10. Oh, no! Mom says you for sure have to be careful! What about lowering a bucket down, with some food in it? Then when the bun gets in the bucket, pull it up?

  13. As much as I like a good rabbit stew, I do feel sorry for the little guy and I hope he finds his way out before Lightning goes out there(sorry Lightning). Maybe some treats on the walkway??

    Ziggy Out!!

  14. Mom or Dad will probably have to put on some heavy gloves and catch the bunny by hand. We can't think of any other way.

  15. Maybe a bigger ramp and some food at the top to entice him to climb up?

  17. Oh my...that is quite the problem...I would totally be just as worried about the poor guy. Sounds like you have some good ideas...I hope one does the trick!

  18. Sounds like Marg has some good suggestions. If someone can climb down there, you could probably scoot him into a box and get him out. Good luck! This would totally stress me out, too

  19. Poor little bunny! We don't have any suggestions but hope you're able to get him out so he'll be okay. *crossing paws*

  20. I like Marg's suggestions (plus putting a small water bowl down there). If you haven't gotten him out, why not lower a kitty carrier with something insulating in it so he can stay warm for the night. Then perhaps someone could use a net or a "have a heart" type trap to get him out of there. I am worried about your little guy.

I've just caught up on your posts from while I was away. It sounds as if Ciara is doing better, and that makes me very happy.

  22. Some friends of mine had a situation similar but with a newborn fawn-the wildlife rescue said to cover it with a towel or blanket and then while wearing heavy gloves lift it out. Bunnies have sharp teeth and nails so be careful!

  24. oh boy that's a bad place for the easter bunny who visited you around christmas... is there any chance to use such a cat trap and to pull the bunny up in case he would enter it? I cross my paws for the bunny...

  25. You need one of those extendable arm thingies. You know, the long stick with a claw on the end of it to grab things on high shelves?? Or absent that, maybe a RAKE? You could scoop him up, lift him up to ground level, and set him free without having to touch him.

  26. Bless you for wanting to help it.
