Wednesday with the Woos

We are HOME!!!

Actually we have been home since Monday afternoon, but Mom says she is very much off schedule with being away for the long weekend and all.  She and Dad had a great time in Keller, Texas, visiting our human brother, sister-in-law, and Mr. J., the one grandson who doesn't live here in Kansas.  They were able to see Mr. J. play in a big basketball tournament, visited the George Bush library on the SMU campus in Dallas, and spent way too much time eating good food in some nice restaurants.

Meanwhile, we were camped out at the spa, playing in a very fun playroom, spending time outside in a big yard, and getting lots of attention from the kennel's attendants.  They told Mom that Ciara did just fine, but Mom thinks they may have missed signs of some overnight seizures.  Since we came home, she has had a number of seizures.  Between the stress of boarding and a couple of days at home with some bad weather, it was just too much for her.

The neurologist agreed this morning that the time has come to add another medication. She will be staying on the Keppra for a few months and also taking Zonisamide.  The new medication may not kick in for about a week, so it could be touch and go here for a few more days.  We sure hope this new approach will work better for her.   We really need her life to become more normal.

And I need my playmate back.  I worry about Ciara when I see her seizing, but I just sit and wait quietly for it to stop.  Mom and I both agree that we could all use some sleep:)

At least when Mom brings out the cookies, we both feel quite perky and happy.  We are sorry we haven't been around to comment much since last week.  We did try to keep up on the reading and will try to get back to a more regular routine soon.

  15. We are so sorry to hear that Ciara has had a rough go of it. Every time it storms your way, we think of her. Our woofie has to have a pretty rigorous schedule to control his seizures. We could never board him. Are you a facebook user? Our Mommy just joined a group that is called Dogs With Seizures (or something like that). Tons of info in this group!
Sending lots of good thoughts and comfort your way.

  21. When ghostwriter and Dad owned their pharmacy, they used to dispense these same drugs for folks who lived in group homes and had multiple disabilities including seizures with good relief. They remember when there was only dilantin, tegretol and phenobarb for seizures. Science has come a long way! Hope it works for you, Ciara!

  23. My heart breaks for poor Ciara. I've seen two people have seizures and it can be scary. I would imagine it would be even more so to see a dog going through that. I always keep Ciara in my nightly prayers and I do hope the added medication will help her.
