What sweet photos! I have those moments too, when something will happen and bring back the memories and the emotions of a pup that has left us.
__________ PS: You asked about our fence, and keeping critters out - I think we've been really lucky. The rabbit I think got in under the gate. The inside wire goes right to the ground, and where there are gaps on the bottom we've used metal tent-stakes that help to block that space and keep anything from coming in underneath. But again, I think we've been lucky, but my biggest fear is a snake finds its way in - Paws crossed it doesn't happen!
