Special #ChewyInfluencer Review

Ms. Natalie from Chewy.com asked us if we would like to review a special item in January.  It has been a very busy month here for Mom, but we are happy to be able to get our review in before the start of February.  We received this item from Chewy.com at no cost to us in exchange for a fair and honest review.

We were asked to review the Outward Hound Fun Feeder.  The bowls are available in three levels of difficulty.

We tried to copy and paste photos of the three different bowls, but they were too blurry.  If you click HERE, you can read about each of the bowls.  The purple one is the easy level, the teal is the medium level, and the orange is the hardest level.  The bowls are available for each level in two sizes, regular and mini.  The mini size Fun Feeder is best suited for extra small and small sized breeds while the regular size is intended for medium, large, and giant breeds.  Its base is designed so that it can't be easily tipped over.

We chose to test the medium level of difficulty fun feeder in the regular size.

The bowl is veterinarian recommended, and it promotes fun healthy eating.

It is dishwasher safe, BPA and PVC free, and lead and phthalate free.  It has a nonslip base (which is good for pups like us who manage to transport our bowls all over the kitchen).  AND it holds FOUR cups of dry or wet food - did you hear that, Mom???  Not just our stinking ONE cup that you give us.

Here is what Chewy.com has to say about the Fun Feeder:

Description:

It's natural for dogs to play with their food. Add a bit of fun to every bite with a Fun Feeder! Featuring meal-lengthening ridges and mazes, Fun Feeders keep pups engaged for up to 10 times longer at chow time

Key Benefits:

  • A great way to entertain your furry friend and make a game out of feeding time
  • Helps prevent bloat, regurgitation and canine obesity for a healthy way to feed your pet
  • Features non-slip base to hold bowl in place to prevent sliding and damage to flooring
  • Top rack dishwasher safe for easy care and clean up
  • Made with high-quality, food-safe material that is BPA, PVC and phthalate free

We all love to eat and can clean our bowls out in no time at all.  Lightning usually gets the stainless steel bowl on the left with the silver ball in it, while Misty and Timber both use the slow feeder on the right (Timber's is white).  Mom has tried the slow feeder with Lightning but he gets very frustrated with it.  Lightning has a very odd bite to his mouth so when he eats he sort of chomps at his food and pushes his whole mouth into it - you will see that on the video below.  The silver ball rolls around in his dish, but somehow it helps to slow down the pace of his eating.  Misty and Timber both do well with their slow feeders, but Mom wanted to try something that is a little less bulky in design.

So here is the fun feeder with our dinner in it. That is one cup of kibble, a teaspoon of pumpkin, a few green beans, and a tablespoonful of canned food. We tried to tell Mom the feeder is designed for FOUR cups, but she didn't listen.

So Mom let us each try out the bowl on different nights.  Timber is checking out the new gizmo in the photo above.

Mom put together a video of each of us having our turn.  The video is about 4 1/2 minutes long, but we hope you will watch it to the end. Misty goes first and then Lightning.  We saved the best for the end.  We think you will enjoy being entertained by Timber's approach to the fun feeder.  Enjoy.

So Mom thinks that Misty really doesn't need a slow feeder any more. She did quite well with the new bowl, but Mom thinks she could easily be using a regular bowl now.  Lightning did a good job too, but he really needs to stop that chomping action.  That can't be very comfortable. About half way through his feeding, he started to use his tongue to scoop the food up into his mouth. So maybe more time eating from this bowl would help him a lot.  And then there is Timber, did you get dizzy watching him spin around his bowl?  He is for sure the fastest eater here so this bowl is meant for him.

We think this bowl is a great choice for pet owners who want to help their dogs slow down and enjoy their food.  Mom says she is going to get one more of the medium level of difficulty bowls so that both Timber and Lightning can use them every day.  We also noticed in the Q & A section about this bowl on Chewy.com that it can also be used for water.  Sometimes Misty likes to drink too much water too quickly so maybe this would be another way to use our fun feeders.

Thanks to Chewy.com and Ms. Natalie for giving us the opportunity to review the Outward Hound Fun Feeder.  We give it 12 paws up and five stars.

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

I think these are a great idea and only wish they had been around when Jade was! Lightning is eating in the manner of his wild relatives; that is the action of tearing flesh from the carcass. I noticed, too, that he improved the tongue action during this. I have to say, though, right at the beginning I thought this bowl demanded that there be some roundabout action going on - and Timber didn't disappoint!!! YAM xx

  4. Good job Misty you are very dainty, you could easily eat in your fancy Par-ee gown.
Lightning I saw your canines and they were hungry
Timber your style made me dizzy...oppps there is a stray piece...whew you got it before the other Woos saw it.
If I had to eat from that bowl it might be easier since my mouth is small but I tell you one thing I'd be worn slap out

  7. I think I might have a problem with those bowls because of my lower jaw is shorter than the top. But I'm sure I'd figure it out soon enough.

  8. It was interesting to watch the three of you and how different you attack your dinner. Yes, Timber - you were making me dizzy☺ Mom says that I don't need a slow feeder bowl any longer because I no long have any competition from any other pup - not that they were going to help me out anyway!

  10. We loved watching Timber g round and round..and Lightning it too cute with all his bowl bitey! Misty knows how to get the job done!

We are all slow eaters...in fact, Arty is the only one who finishes most of his food in one sitting.

    Great review!

  11. I know it suppose to be a bit challenging, but did any of the dogs have any trouble getting the food out?

  14. That was a great review. Walter will be reviewing one of those soon too. It's interesting to see all the different approaches. We think Timber is the smartest because he follows the shape and just scoops up each ring in order.

  15. Wait. There are different levels of difficulty? We didn't know that! I wonder what we have! We have this one and the purple maze one. Maybe we should try the orange swirl thing, too!

  16. Those are great bowls. I wish there was a small one for cats, I had bought one for small dogs, but it doesn't slow Joanie down.

  17. We think it is a very good solution for dogs prone to getting bloat but we wouldn't call it fun
