Sympthy for Sagira and Not-So-Funny Friday Fotos

Our blogging friend Sagira had some sad news this week.

Her mom Christine lost her father very suddenly. We know they are all hurting in her family. If you have a few minutes to spare, please stop by Sagira, Bokeh, Starr, and Harley's blog HERE and leave them some words of comfort. We are sure they would appreciate it very much.

Meanwhile we had our own share of not-so-good news this week. Do you remember last summer when we had this mess at our home?

That was when we were getting a new roof, and the men threw all the old "shingles" down on the ground in a big mess. Then later they put up all the new "shingles" so we have a new roof.

Well, somehow, and we pups really don't understand this, but somehow the Momster managed to get some of those "shingles" stuck on her face. Look at this photo, can you believe it? Mom now has shingles!!! BOL!!! Guess we could say it is one of today's "unsolved mysteries".

OK, OK, OK, we know it isn't funny. Mom has a lot of pain and she would not be happy with us for showing this photo. But we just couldn't resist making a funny:)

The doctor thinks this all started because of all that miserable nerve trauma Mom had in her arm in November when she fell and broke it. For some reason, it woke up the chicken pox virus in her body and this happened. She is on some high doses of some big pills now to try to make her better. We are hoping it doesn't get any worse, but just in case, we might not be visiting as much, depending on how she is feeling.

We received a wonderful book in the mail this week. "What's Wrong with Gibson?" is written by Dorothy Wills-Rafferty, Mom to the Five Sibes, and illustrated by her good friend Michelle Littler.

In the words of the author:

Our five Siberian Huskies that we raised since pups, and their real life antics are the inspiration to my series, and What's Wrong With Gibson is based on my boy having seizures, which I translated into a short tale that makes it easy for children who may have Epilepsy themselves, or know someone who does, to understand. The tale is about how while the Huskies are out playing in the snow one day, Gibson suddenly has a seizure. As the short story unfolds, in easy-to-understand rhymes accompanied by colorfully adorable illustrations, the three young pups discover that their big brother has Canine Epilepsy and they get a hands-on lesson about care and first aid from the pack's alpha leader, Harley.

We were lucky enough to have our two special pals join us for the first reading.

Can you believe that 8 weeks ago today is the last day that all of us got to go for a walk! That day was when Mom fell and broke her arm. Well, today was a pretty nice day here, and she has been promising us a walk. She came through for us. Thanks, Mom. It was great!!!

We usually walk two at a time, but Mom says she has to be careful, so we each got to go one at a time with her. We wish we had a video to share, but once again, she says she needs to concentrate on what her feet are doing so we don't have a repeat accident. Hopefully it won't be too long before we can get back to our normal routine.

We did get some fun photos for you. We have all been wanting to have our picture taken with Santa. Luckily one of the houses up the street still has their Christmas decorations set up.

This is how it looks during the day. That big mess in the back is a humongous inflatable Santa. He probably stands about 12 feet tall when he is fully inflated.

Thunder seems pretty happy to share some time with Santa and the Penguin Elves.

Ciara tried to get this Elf to put a good word in with the big red jolly fellow for next year.

Phantom said he thought this was pretty boring, especially when he can see a cute little kitty up the street. Let's get this walk underway, Mom.

And last but never least, what did Lightning think of Santa? See that back paw firmly planted in the grass - "You really think I am going to go over there, Mom???"

Absolutely, pawsitively, without a doubt, NO WAY!!!

FINALLY FRIDAY

Well, after all the waiting and wondering, there is only one more day until we get to snuggle up all cozy and warm in our beds and wait for Santa Paws to arrive.

Lightning is practicing but his perky ears say he might be peeking.

Ciara and Lightning:

Mom, you keep saying we have been bringing lots of mud in the house, but do you see any mud on our paws? They look pretty clean to us.

Mom:

Yes, you two have been tracking mud in the house all week, every time you come in from outside. And you KNOW it isn't very much fun for me to clean your paws and wash the floors. I may be using two arms and hands now, but that gimpy arm still isn't working that well.

Many of you have been asking about Mom and her broken arm. It has been seven weeks since the disastrous fall. Things are progressing, albeit VERY slowly. She is now able to do many things, but she is still not able to do much that involves lifting more than five pounds or twisting her wrist into a palm up or palm down flat position.

As you can see, it is looking much better, still some swelling, but healing nicely.

She has to wear this wrap for 12 hours at night. If you look closely, you can see a bandaid-shaped pink thing under that wrap. It is a piece of silicone that is supposed to help flatten the scar and soften the scar tissue so more mobility can be achieved.

Here are her "torture" tools. She has physical therapy twice a week and comes home very sore. On the far left is her wrist brace that she wore on her wrist at night until about a week ago. It helped to alleviate some of the pain at night, but it also made her wrist very stiff in the morning. Now she goes without it but wears the wrap we described above. In the lower center of the photo is that pink strip of silicone. Next to the silicone you can see her "silly putty". Actually it is called theraputty. She does a whole bunch of exercises using that blob. The little twin bipeds like to get their play-doh out and do the exercises along with the Momster. At the top of the photo is a green stretchy band that Mom uses to help her be able to turn her palm flat down and flat up and to build strength - a very painful trick. You can also see the weight - she has graduated from a one lb. weight to a two lb. one this week. She has more exercises she does with that. And lastly you may be wondering about that hammer. No, she is not doing any construction work here. The hammer is what she calls the worst of the torture tools. She has to hold it at the very bottom of the handle, keep her elbow tightly at her ribs, and then turn her palm face up and face down for a count of 30, then repeat three more times. The weight of the hammer head helps pull the hand farther than it is willing to go. It hurts a lot, but she says she won't get her full range of mobility back without the pain. She is just grateful for the many little things she can do now that were impossible just a few weeks ago. The doctor says it will be at least another five to six weeks for full recovery.

We are her cheerleaders, rooting her on as she spends time on her exercises. But we have a hidden agenda. We are all hoping to get our walks back on schedule. So far Phantom and Thunder have each had one short walk, the first in over seven weeks. Once again, we thank you all for your good thoughts and wishes for her.

Dear Santa, we are all trying very hard to be good, look at what a great photo op we let Mom have.

Thankful on Thursday

With Christmas almost here, we thought we would show you all the cards we have received in the mail from our blogging friends. We also have several beautiful e-cards that we will try to post another day. We wish we had a better way to show you each and every one of these wonderful cards.

Absolutely amazing, more and more arrive every day - and we thank you ALL.

Last Friday the mail brought a very special card to our door. It was the same day we learned about the tragic fire that The Houston Pittie Pack suffered.

It brought tears to our eyes as we saw each of the pups in their beautiful card. But it also makes us happy to know that we now have a way to always remember the five who have crossed the bridge and the two special ones, Brinks and Bella, who survived to help Sandra carry on. Thank you, Sandra and your Pack.

Now Thunder would like to share another card we received to add a lighter touch to this post.

Thunder here today. I wonder how many of you remember the special project I was working on last summer. You might remember how I had a lot of loose fur, some Harry Potter books, some help from Ciara and the little bipeds.

You know I worked very hard to create something very special. Some of you might say I succeeded very well, but THIS -

was NOT quite what I had in mind. (Just in case Santa is reading this, the little pest has sort of grown on me.)

But I digress from my point. We received another very special card from Reilly and Denny and their human Bree - who makes beautiful cards.

We had a different post in mind for today, but somehow it just doesn't seem appropriate after the terrible news we heard.

Today we are thinking very sadly about our friends at The Pittie Pack. You have probably read on some of the other blogs how there was a devastating fire in their home early today. Thankfully the humans all escaped the fire safely, but five of their seven dogs died, including sweet Shelby who won all our hearts a few years ago as she fought to save her own life and her pups.

The loss of the life of each of these cherished pets is just too sad for words. Our hearts are very heavy and we send our deepest sympathy to the family and the two surviving pups. We cannot imagine the sorrow they must be feeling. The family has lost everything. We know there is a move underway for donations to be made from Blogville. We will share the information when we know more. If you can spare a few dollars, we know it is going to be put to very good use. We know times are tough for so many these days, but even if you can't contribute any money, please stop by their blog and leave them some comforting words. Kissa-Bull, The Pittie Pack.

Thankful on Thursday

A great time of the year to be thankful! And we have lots of reason for thanksgiving.

Look at all the cards we have received from our blog friends in the mail.

And this doesn't include all the beautiful e-cards and Smilebox cards we have received as well. You are all TERRIFIC!!!

Here is a closer look.

I have more reason to be thankful. Today Mom took me to the vet. Well, I am not really thankful for THAT. But it was time for my annual exam. I saw one of my favorite vets, and he gave me some very gentle tummy rubs and ear scritchies. I even got a couple of treats. Now he did steal some of my blood and he poked me a few times with those pointy needles. But it really wasn't too bad. All in all, Mom said it was a pretty good report. I have lost a couple of pounds, but it's OK because I had put on some in the fall. I am still a tiny bit higher than I was in the summer. My teeth are good. My heart ticker and my lungs are sounding pretty good for a 13 year old. I do have a lot of lumpy bumps all over me. Some are still concerning, but most of my newer ones were just cysts that the vet was able to aspirate and drain. I also got some Deramaxx to try to see if it will help my back legs. They like to give out on me and that doesn't feel so good. The only advice my vet pal had for me was to eat, eat, eat.

Mom had to write a very big check to pay for all of it, but she said she was happy with how things went. I am just hoping that's it until next year:)

It's my birthday today!!!! And I am TWO!!!!!

Mom and Dad say it seems like only yesterday I joined the pack, but it's true - two years old!!!

Guess I didn't do too badly - look at this loot.

I used to have one of these wubbas - hmmmmm, the Momster says some pup chewed it to smithereens. Now who could that have been? She adds that this happened pre-Lightning. And that purple pup looks like something I might have to hide from the little dickens - he seems to be quite the chewer too. Oops, I didn't say that.

We have always loved the Thanksgiving Dinner formula from Merrick. I actually got to have this new Homecoming Holiday one last night - I give it four paws up.

Now what have we here? Sure smells good.

Salmon - yummers - anything fishy is a big hit here.

And now for the special goodies. One, two, three, four of them, two reindeer and two gingerbread doghouses. ALL for me!!! What's that, Mom? Oh, OK, one for each of us.

As you can see, I am wasting no time getting to know my new wubba.

OK, I have been waiting long enough, Mom. Let's have one of those yummy treats NOW.

We suspect you thought you'd earn some extra points with Santa Sibe up at the North Pole if you did help out. But seriously, get up off your lazy butts now and finish the job! Floor decorations do not count.

Thursday's Twin Time

Many of you know that the Momster watches some of the grandbipeds several days of the week. Our fun twins J and C are here a lot. We have lots of fun with both of them, but some of us find our fun in different ways.

Ciara enjoys a good snuggle with this cutie pie C.

And she thinks J has the best lap for a good snooze. If she gets lucky, she might even get a tummy rub or some ear scritchies.

Lightning, on the other hand is more of an action kind of guy.

Watch him have fun with J.

And of course, Thunder and Phantom checked out the funny car, but since there were no treats involved, they just passed on through.

Tuesday's Surprise Treat

Yes, it's Tuesday again and that usually means we would be participating in Sugar's Tasty Tuesday post. And we would love to do that, but we got a treat of a different kind when Mom opened the door this morning.

It isn't very much, but it sure felt good on our paws. AND it was Lightning's first "taste" of snow. He seemed to like it, but we can't wait for a bigger snowfall so he can really enjoy the joy of snow.

Meanwhile, Phantom wants everyone to know that he too is very much supportive of Pip's Occupy the Couch protest. He just likes to do it while the rest of us are outside doing zoomies.

Pawsonally, Phantom thinks this is a great way to spend a morning. The only thing missing was his sunpuddle.

Our very special kitty friend from across the big pond, Ginger Jasper, is not feeling well. His Mum and Dad are very worried about him.

Please send some good thoughts and prayers his way. We are hoping to hear some good news today. C'mon, GJ. Feel better, pal.

Another of our very good friends, Pip, is having some problems since his family moved to their new home. Although he is very happy at the new place, his family put his very comfy sofa in the basement while they wait to get a new one. Poor Pip is so lost without his sofa. He is staging an Operation Occupy Your Couch movement. You can read about it HERE.

To show our support for Pip's plight, we too are going to stage a protest by occupying the couch here too.

Ciara is a pro at occupying the couch, AND she knows how to get very comfy.

And she never needs to worry about any humans stealing the couch because . . .

. . . Thunder and Lightning are ready and waiting for their turn in the protest.

"Since the Momster is still working on recovery, I think I will be happy to spend the day with my pack. Ciara is great company as we enjoy a sunpuddle together."

"Thunder and I can survey the kingdom from atop the deck. He is a great brother and always has my back."

"And yes indeed, even the little (?) guy Lightning can share some time with me."

"So that's what you woke me up for? Today is my birthday. Today I am 13 years young. I trust there will be something tasty in my bowl tonight? How about a nice steak and maybe a side of pasta with a tiny touch of sauce? That would make my day."

So there you have it, not exactly the super party we were planning, but Mr. Phantom will be quite content with some happy wishes for him today.

Pee Ess: Momster update. We are happy to report that things are much improved. The pain has subsided substantially and the nerve issue is calming down. It is probably due to a combination of the healing process and the physical therapy. She still has a long road ahead, but at least there is improvement. We all want to thank you for your warm thoughts for her and for the many beautiful cards she has received. It is still a challenge and very time-consuming to type with one hand. So for now our blog activity will continue to be curtailed a great deal. We thank you for understanding.

Tuesday Telling

Tough times at The OP Pack for now. Many of you have been asking about the Momster and her progress with her broken arm/wrist. Slow going for sure. The stitches have been removed and healing is underway, or so they say. The doctor has removed the soft wrap and wants Mom to try to use her wrist where possible, five pound weight limit - ha, she can barely lift her cell phone. And no support for the arm other than a brace at night - not a lot of fun at all. Mom isn't getting much sleep because at night all the affected nerves decide to have a wild party in her arm when she tries to sleep. The pain is very bad, and she hasn't yet found a way to handle the pain meds very well. For now she is back on high doses of over-the-counter stuff. There are some other options but not without side effects. She also began physical therapy yesterday and is more sore from that now.

We don't want to do this, but we probably won't be posting much for a while. We continue to try to read your posts, but it is too hard to comment. We are participating in Mayzie's Rescue Me Week. Most of this post will be copied and pasted from one of our local rescue organizations, Wayside Waifs. Mom is still having lots of discomfort and typing is quite the challenge. But we didn't want to miss out on a chance to help.

Meet Wonkie! Isn't he just so adorable! Wonkie is a black and white Havanese mix, about 2 1/2 years old, neutered, and currently in a foster home. He would love to find a wonderful forever home. Here is some background on Wonkie in his own words.

Hi! I'm Mr. Wonkie, cute as a button and full of personality. I am a two and half year old, 11 pound, partially housetrained Havanese mix, searching for a brand new home. I came in as a stray, shy and fearful of everyone I met. And I've made great progress during my stay here at Wayside, although I'm still working out some of my issues and I do need a special sort of home with special people.

Well, some here think that I might not have always been treated in a friendly manner in the past. I get real nervous when you take my collar or leash off...I'm very sensitive around my neck area. And it takes me just awhile to learn to trust you and bond with you. Lucky for everyone, the Wayside staff knew to go slow with me, let me take my time getting used to my new environment, and slowly, I started to love them and trust them. That's when a whole new side of me appeared! I can be a fun and wiggly lap dog. I can love and feel happy and enjoy life! It just takes me a little time, that's all. I've already learned to sit for my treats and it makes me so happy when I see people smile because of me.

I'm looking for a home with patient people, who will allow me to go slow and learn to feel safe. I haven't felt that way before. I would love positive reinforcement when I do good. It teaches me what you want and expect from me and I'm happy to oblige. I will do best in a home without kids under the age of 18 years old, since their unpredictable movements are very scary to me. A quiet and calm home would be perfect for me. And if you take the time to bond with me, I promise to make it worth your while! I will be a fun, happy, and loyal companion to you.

So when are you coming out to meet me? I'm here and I'm ready to go home. Just say the word.

Pee Ess - a quick update on the patients. Lightning is healing well and is more than ready to get back to the wild ways of a pup, but he is on restricted activity for another week. The Momster is still struggling with the pain, but doing the best she can. She is not a sit-still-and-rest sort of person, so this is not fun for her at all. We have her sitting now with a bag of frozen peas on her arm and a few pups at her feet.

Just a quick update on Lightning.

Sad puppy after putting him in the soft collar. He hates it. but the good news is that he is doing well otherwise.

As for the Monster, she had her surgery yesterday to put in a plate and 8 screws to keep her radius together. And she did not have to stay in the hospital. She is doing pretty well today now that she has stopped all the pain meds and is relying on ibuprofen for the pain. The narcotics prescribed just make her loopy and sick to her stomach. Her main pain is in the area where the bone broke. She does not have to wear a cast, an no e-collar either:) We just need her to heal.

We are reading your blogs, but mat not be able to comment. We will also be missing the duct tape fun too:) Of course we could try to duct tape Mom's arm - BOL.

Taking a Break

No pun intended, but the Momster took a tumble this afternoon and broke her left arm.

She broke both bones in the arm near the area of her wrist. Doctor tried to straighten it for her but couldn't. If things work out, she will have surgery tomorrow. We probably won't be able to visit much for a while, but we are sure you will understand.

A couple of us have reason to be thankful today.

Phantom is very grateful for a sunny day and a warm sunpuddle to enjoy a nice long nap.

OK, Mom - I AM thankful to be home. I am thankful you came and rescued me. I am thankful to be back with my pack. BUT do you really think I am going to be thankful for THIS??? And I can't believe you think I am going to wear a lampshade on my head for TWO WEEKS!!! Some of my cellmates at that vet prison told me it makes a very good ramming weapon - no, that isn't meant to be a threat.

I must admit I am a bit worn out, maybe I will just rest here a while and take a snooze like my big brother Phantom.

The Momster here - yes, Lightning is home and he is NOT a happy camper at all. It is no surprise that he doesn't like his new headgear. Phantom has been kind enough to let him borrow his Comfy Cone. I will be switching the plastic cone (truly a deadly weapon to the legs) and moving the little guy to the more comfortable Comfy Cone once he wakes up. Hopefully it will fit inside the crate for bedtime. Lightning did very well at the vet's. Everyone loved him. They told me he greeted them this morning with a very big wooing song. I didn't have the heart to tell them that he was just letting them know that he wanted his breakfast and he wanted it NOW. Since the patient is now in a deep sleep, I will express his thanks to all for the good wishes and thoughts from yesterday's post.

Mom says today is my big boy day. I thought I already WAS a big boy - that's what all of you keep saying.

So I checked with my pal Ciara, but she just said today is Wooless Wednesday.

Along came Thunder, but all he would say was "snip snip time".

Hey, where did she come from? She said she heard Grandma say I was getting a microchip - is that something good to eat like those barbecue chips in the cabinet?

Then I asked the old and wise Phantom (he is going to be 13 this month), but can you believe it - he just laughed!!!

The last thing I heard from Mom was that it was time to get in the car and head off for my "tutoring". All these big words have me very confused.

Do you know Sallie and Alien from Romance Puppy? Recently they held a contest to see if anyone could guess where the ghost ancestor of Evil Freddie was located. And we won!!!!

Little did we know that a ghost was coming to stay at the OP Pack's castle. Now if we thought this little ghost with the big golden brown eyes were really related to Evil Freddie, we would have to banish it to the dungeon. But since Sallie and Alien told us to take good care of it, we think it must be a friendly ghost. Let's see what one of us thinks of this guest.

Show Your Treat Day Saturday

Today we join our good furiends Jack-a-Roo and Moo in celebrating the second annual "Show Us Your Treat Jar" Day.

And help out those a little less fortunate too.

Can you believe we only have ONE measly treat jar? It has Alpo Liver Treats in it - we love them but wish Alpo would make them bigger even if Mom says they are the perfect size for a quick treat. The Momster also says it would be pointless to have more treat jars because with four of us, the treats never last long enough to need to store them:) So to show you our other treats, we borrowed the Halloween treat bowls before they get filled with all that yummy chocolate that we can't have.

Here is a closeup of some of our special treats. We love them all, especially that wonderful duck jerky and just about any treat from Trader Joe's. Of course, our favorite treats are the ones that are homemade, but we don't seem to have any of those around here right now. Hint, hint, Momster.

In keeping with the spirit of this special day, Mom will be delivering this big box of treats along with a big bag of dog food from Costco (yet to be purchased) to our local shelter, Wayside Waifs. It won't be nearly enough to treat all the pups there, but we hope it will help make some of their lives a little nicer.

The Momster has a really hard time getting a decent photo of all four of us together. So we will have to make do with these.

Phantom doesn't hear much these days, but he did hear the word SNOW mentioned yesterday. Here he is looking for the white stuff in his yard. He missed the part about it all being waaaaaaay east of OP. To all our furry pals on the East Coast, enjoy that snow and stay safe.

Beautiful Lady Lilac from Tales and Tails, one of our favorite blogs. Miss Lilac reached the grand age of 16 just a short while ago and brought great joy and love to her family. We only knew her for a couple of years but we so enjoyed reading about her and her family. She was quite the fascinating pup. Project Patio Report

Lightning: "What do you think of this, Ciara? It looks like the project is finished."

Ciara: "Hold on a sec, Lightning. I have my eye on a bunny in the neighbor's yard."

Ciara: "OK, he disappeared now. Personally, I preferred the muddy dirt much better."

Mom: "Well, get used to it, Princess. And please leave the new sod alone. I just might have to cut off the duck jerky supply for a certain mud puppy."

Yes, the "dog" patio is more or less finished. We had it installed to try to get rid of the patch of dirt (mud) at the base of the deck stairs where we could never get grass to grow because the dogs' feet hit it so hard going up and down the stairs. There was about a one foot buffer around the completed patio where we are trying some sod. It isn't doing too well right now, but maybe with a few weeks and some persistent supervision, we can get it to grow. Right now, Ciara is exercising her "ungardening" skills in trying to remove it. Next spring we are either going to try a few shrubs around the patio or maybe just some potted plants in the corners. Mom has little hope for shrubs with three boy pups in the pack:) And yes, little Lightning, who isn't so little any more, has already learned to lift his leg at only five months old.

We will leave you with a short video of some sibe fun. Sorry there are no sightings of Phantom in the video. He has had a few off days and is preferring the sunpuddles in the family room.

Today we are joining forces with all our friends around Blogville to proclaim that "together we live strong". We would like to honor the memory of our Mom's brother Jack, who lost his life to cancer at the young age of 27 and who never had a chance to fight the good fight as he died the day after he was diagnosed. We also remember our sweet Princess Dakota who fought for two years against this curse that struck her in the form of Cushing's Disease. We also would like to remember all the beloved members of your families and fur-amilies who have crossed the bridge as a result of cancer.

At the same time, we want to join paws to lift up those who are struggling daily in their lives as they try to conquer some form of cancer. In particular, we want to include in our special thoughts our own special boy Phantom, who has undergone two surgeries to remove malignancies and who continues to fight it every day. We also think every day of Poppy Vic, human Dad to our Zoolatry kitty friends Zoey and Maggy and husband to our dear friend Ann. We hope that all of you who have been affected in any way by cancer can also find a way to Live Strong in the battle for a cure.

The Security Breach

Some of you may remember the "no-sibe zone" fence that the Momster put up this summer. You can read about it HERE. She had to take it down when the roofers were here in July, but she did manage to put it back up again when they were finally done cleaning up the mess she made. The fence is made up of a whole bunch of sections that she laces together with these cable ties.

She uses one at the top and bottom where two sections join together so that it makes the fence sturdier and prevents us from knocking it down. Well, since we hadn't even tried to go in the no-sibe zone, she thought she would skip putting the ties back on after the roofers finished because she knew there was more work to be done. There were going to be workers installing new gutters and downspouts, some repairs to the landscape areas, and a new paint job for the whole house. So rather than waste her time putting all those ties back on, she just set up the fence, knowing she would have to take it down or at least parts of it a couple more times. All was going quite well for her, and not so great for us because we couldn't figure out how to get in there. Well, not until ONE of us decided there was a way to do it.

Yep, Mr. Thunder Dunder has breached the no-sibe zone, and he has done it many times. He is the only culprit, and he has been caught red-pawed many times. Just in case any of you doubt this, here is video proof.

Pee Ess, please ignore the dead shrubs you see and the patch of dirt. Those trees were totally fried by our summer heat as were many in our area. They will all be removed and replaced in the next few weeks as a new patio area just for us pups is going to be installed. Mom keeps saying something about no more muddy feet.

Look what came in the mail yesterday. A belated Tuesday Treat for Sugar.

We finally finished the first bag that we won from the White Dog Army months ago. It is just so good that we convinced the Momster we just had to have more.

Thunder and Phantom decided to guard the treasure. Even Phantom LOVES his duck jerky.

What do you mean we have to share it, Mom? Here we are doing all the heavy security duty and you think we need to let the Pest and the Pipsqueak have some too???

Oh, what wouldn't we all do for duck jerky? We even let HER get a good pic for a change.

A Vampire in the House

Some of you may remember what happened between Ciara and Phantom when she was around five months old, just about the same age as Lightning is now. If you would like a refresher, just click HERE and watch the video.

Well, it is all happening again. The Momster thinks we may have a vampire in the pack.

It took a while for the Momster to make the connection. But we now think that this licking behavior is totally wrapped up in the arrival of those new "big boy" teeth in Lightning's mouth. Mom suspects that there may be some blood on his gums or some sort of smell or taste that is attracting Phantom. But why only Phantom is interested is quite the mystery. He does have some bizarre food likes and dislikes:)

Phantom: Don't believe a word of what you are reading here. I am just checking to see if Lightning got some of that duck jerky when I was sleeping.

Lightning: Heck, I don't care, I am rather enjoying all this attention from the patriarch of the pack.

And now it is time for me and Ciara to get our zoomies session underway. (Many of you have commented about how big Lightning is getting. That is true, but you can see Ciara is still bigger than him, and she is the smallest of the other three packmates.)

Note from Mom: Just a short update on our daughter's friends who were injured in the airshow crash. We can tell you that a husband and wife (our daughter's dear friends), the husband's brother, and the husband's parents were involved in the tragedy. Sadly to date, the husband's mother is still listed as "missing" and presumed deceased. EACH of the other four has lost a good portion of one leg and has multiple fractures to the other leg. All have had surgeries to repair the damage and help them on the road to recovery. All are doing well, given the circumstances. Once again, we thank you all for your prayers, good thoughts, and support.

We have a very wet day here so Ciara and Lightning figured this would be a good way to pass the time.

But have no fear, Lightning will recharge very quickly.

Surely you didn't think I would sleep the day away.

Nothing like a good toy to chew on, especially since all those big boy teeth are coming in now.

Or I can have some fun with my ball. Do you know where this ball came from? It was trying to hide from me inside one of those things Mom calls a wubba. I think the ball likes it better being free from that hiding spot. So I helped it get out.

What was that you said? You think my legs look a bit on the large size?

Mom says I am at that gangly stage where my legs have outgrown my body. Hmmmm, maybe she needs to feed me more so the rest of me can catch up.

Many thanks to all of you for your caring support and prayers. I don't want to get into too many details here for the privacy of the family, especially since this has not hit our local news yet. Four of the five members are stable but have suffered severe injuries and multiple fractures. One of the five sadly is missing/unidentified. Many of you have probably read about the tragic airplane crash at the air show in Reno, Nevada. Although we do not have many details, five members of one family who are very dear friends of our human sister and her husband were among those severely injured in the viewing area at the show where the plane hit. We would appreciate your good thoughts and prayers and the power of the paw for this family.

Making Friends

Lightning again today - I promise I will let the others have a turn soon.

When I first arrived at my forever home, I was not too sure about all the little bipeds that come to visit many days of the week. I would run and hide. But Mom has been helping me and them to become good pals. I wear a calming collar, a D.A.P. one, that the vet suggested to Mom. I am no longer afraid of Dad's big black noisy shoes. And I have discovered that the little ones aren't so bad either.

This one is my favorite. Her name is C.

She loves to sit with me on my bed. It is MY bed today, but it was Thunder's yesterday:)

Oops, Mom gave her sun stripes. She is pretty cute, isn't she?

She is helping me learn how to pose nicely.

Here she thinks I am being silly, but I was just practicing my stretches.

Whoa, what have we here? Mom says this is my cutie girl's other half J - the twins J and C. I am pretending I am sleeping here because J is wild sometimes and scares me. Mom is working on him to approach me more slowly and quietly. And you know what, he is a lot of fun too because he loves to throw the ball for me and squeak my toys.

A Magical Moment on Monday

No tumultuous hurricanes or tropical storms here, but we did have a breakthrough moment with our own Thunder and Lightning.

Lightning: If I tuck my snooter down here, I don't think Thunder will know I am here.

Thunder: Seriously, little one, WHO do you think you are kidding? You can have the cool vent back there as long as I have the bed.

We haven't been posting much lately because life with four Woos in the house makes for some very busy times. We thought we would give you a glimpse of how things are going.

Lightning and Phantom?

Well, it depends on the day. For the most part, things are pretty good between these two. But Phantom has been having an "off" week and really isn't too interested in puppy antics.

Well, maybe not best buddies, but much improved, as long as there are no toys or food around, and Mr. PuppyPants is in a quiet mood.

One of these days, they will be The Three Woosketeers.

If you know Ciara like we know Ciara, there is no doubt about this friendship:) Here is a quiet moment but take our word, these two are nonstop furry balls of action, inside and outside. The Momster is very grateful for the Princess's help in tiring out Lightning.

Getting Ready for the Big Prom

The big weekend for The Crossed Paws Event is getting closer. You can read all about it HERE. We don't have any dates but we thought we would practice posing since we hear they take lots of pics at the prom.

I hear there might be a need for mature chaperones at this event. Maybe that is a role I can perform.

I am not sure about all this dancing stuff, but if there will be some good food, I am ready to boogie.

Fenris, I am hoping you will sign my dance card and share some time on the dance floor with me.

Mom says I am too young for the Prom, but Ciara said she would let me come along and watch all the fun.

Wait a minute, we think we just got hoodwinked by the Momster - she was just trying to trick us so she could get some pics for a silly post.

We also want to send good thoughts to all of you who might be in the path of Hurricane Irene. Please stay alert and safe.

Tasty Tuesday

FINALLY . . . . . .

Here in Overland Park, we have a Trader Joe's. It opened this summer about five miles from our home. It is now one of Mom's favorite places to shop. She visits the store at least once a week and brings home something new and different to try each time she shops. So far she hasn't found anything she doesn't LOVE.

Well, she has been a great Momster and remembers to bring home something for us too. So now WE all love Trader Joe's too.

Let's take a closer look at the chicken and sweet potato flavor dog treats:

If you look closely, you can see that they are each scored across the middle so you can break them in half for smaller pups or if you have a stingy Mom who won't give you the whole piece at one time - hint, hint. They have all natural ingredients and NO CORN - none of us tolerates corn very well.

But we sure are all ready to sink our teeth into one of those tasty and crunchy treats.

Mmmmmmm, those were so good. But now it is time to get on the move and head on out to the big celebration for Wyatt's Third Birthday. He is hosting the Wyatt County Fair. Be sure to stop by HERE and see all the fun many of your furiends from Blogville are having.
