Woe is me again!!!
So here I was last night lounging on my loveseat condo when the flashy beast interrupted my peace.
And then the flashy beast operator was looking at this "comfy cone" as an option for Phantom to have next week instead of that hard plastic lampshade.
And look what happened. This is ME today. How did this happen? Are you wondering about that too?

Well, this morning after we all got up, I spent some time out in the family room - I just love to lie on that beautiful white carpet. Mom came out to put all the blinds up and let Mr. Sunshine come in. Then I heard her say, "Oh no, what is all this?" She had found several trails of light blood stains in several different places on that beautiful not-so-white-anymore carpet. She thought for sure that one of us had to have a UTI or a broken nail or something like that. So we all got a paw check and a tummy etc. area check. No signs of blood on any one. What could it be from? Then the lightbulb went on. Some pup has been very itchy and doing lots of nose rubbing. Ummmm, that would be ME. Upon closer examination, this is what she found.
This has happened to me before but not this badly. At this time of the year, there is something in the outside world that really bothers me. And I start rubbing and pawing. So a call to the vet confirmed it is time to start the benadryl. Mom can try a little antibiotic ointment too as long as I don't lick it. I don't mind any of that, BUT then they told her to put a cone on ME too:(
So off she went to Petco to buy not one, but two of these comfy cones. I must admit that it doesn't feel too badly, it sure beats that other thing I see in the garage, the one that really looks like a lampshade and is really hard and "uncomfy".
Now this part is embarrassing.
Mom, do I really have to wear it outside too?
Mom, do I really have to wear it outside too?
So far I have been really good about this new attachment. Maybe it is just the effect from the benadryl - yawn - I am so tired. But, Mom, I am telling you now - you owe me some extra treats for this one.
Woos, Thunder Dunder
Oh nose ;-)

We've used the comfy cone the last couple times someone had a problem and we like it much better than the hard cones. The dogs can move around more easily and sleep more comfortably and the backs of our legs don't get all bruised.
ReplyDeleteI had to start Fudge on Benrdryl today. his eyes were red and watery and I didn't want him rubbing them.
Oh no! Thunder I sure hope your nose feels better soon. We can be injured buddies today since a cat got my ear huh?

ReplyDeleteSmooches,
BabyRD and Hootie
Were you picking your nose (snicker)? And its a cone of shame, even if it is a little more stylish.
ReplyDeleteSay it isn't so!!!
ReplyDeleteThunder, this is taking commiserating with Phantom just a little too far! You poor baby...

~K

ReplyDeleteBig Sloppy Kisses
Gus, Louie and Callie
Poor little woo! How itchy da nose can be! I hope woo feel better and less itchy soon. And woo is handsome in the lightshade!
ReplyDeleteOuch, that looks so sore...:(
ReplyDeleteWe are glad you know the cause though and so hopfully you will be feeling better very soon. :)
We have a Jack Russel friend here that gets very bad itchy feet this time of year. They get sore and she has to have treatment for it... it is some sort of allergy reaction like yours.
We hope you are all better soon and don't have to wear the comfy cone for too long. The extra treats sounds good though. :)
well at least its not the nasty plastic cone!
ReplyDeleteOh Thunder, that looks ouchie! I hope that Benadryl does the trick.
ReplyDeleteMy parents have a young beagle whose tummy has been bright red for months and he scratches it constantly. The vet put him on multiple strong doses of antibiotics and steriods but nothing seemed to help clear it up. It seems like they had to put some kind of creme on his belly too.
Then my parents went camping and noticed it seemed to be clearing up quite nicely! And when they returned home, he was back to being bright red and itchy. They finally realized it was the weeds in the yard. He's looking much better but hasn't healed completely.
If you haven't gotten the blood out completely, you can always try peroxide. Pour it on the area, wait for it to stop bubbling and pat it dry with a damp towel. I used to have problems with my kitty before he died and this worked the best to get it out.
Oh baby, your poor little snoot. Hoping it heals very quickly. In the meantime, we're trying to imagine what a white carpet would look like in our house after a couple weeks with these two! ;)
ReplyDeleteThunder, I hope you heal quickly!
ReplyDeleteThunder!! Your poor nose!! We have to say the comfy cones look alot better than the plastic kind. We didn't even know they made those. Mom will have to remember. Get better please!! Lots of love, Holly and mom
ReplyDeleteThunder, dang! Stop picking your nose!
ReplyDeletePoor Thunder! When it rains, it pours, doesn't it? We're all still praying for him throughout the day and hoping that he gets back to 100% soon. I'm sure that not having to deal with the terrible lampshade will contribute to making him feel better too!
ReplyDeleteMy mama has threatened to use that cone when I get itchy allergies. So far, she has held off! You wear it very well, Thunder!
ReplyDeleteYour pal, Pip
Woof! Woof! That is a cool looking cone. Golden Healing Thoughts on your nose. Happy Weekend. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteOh poor TD! You guys just can't catch a break at the moment, can you?
ReplyDeleteAh, we know all about those cones at our house - my cat has had SEVERAL extended stints having to wear one :( Most recently, she had to wear it for a month, also for a nose sore. Thankfully, it's all healed up now.
ReplyDeleteYou'll get through it!
Sam and MargeDog
Oh no! Not you too, Thunder! Poor thing - that DOES look sore. But I think your collar looks very nice and comfy - I had never heard of those nice soft ones before my blog friends mentioned them (maybe they're only in America?) - I had to wear the nasty hard plastic ones!
ReplyDeleteHope your nose gets better soon!
Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane

ReplyDeleteOh, dear! Actually, you look quite handsome, still! How do you do that with the cuffy thingy around your neck...
ReplyDeleteOh poor Thunder, but you do wear your cone well! Ciara - we think you're going to have to become a nurse to look after your two brothers! We hope your nose heals fast Thunder so that you can get out of your cone real quick! Schnauzer snuggles - JD and Max.

Woos Thunder Dunder.... what to say, were woo feeling put out because Mom has been giving extra attention to Phantom? I don't have allergies but the little Scampi does, he hand rub himself raw, I hope woo nose heals fast or Mom will need to buy two of those. Has she heard about giving woo locally grown honey (MUST be local) everyday to help the allergies? It works wonders.

A boo boo on the snooter? Allergies, huh? What's up with us dogs and all those allergies? We must ask our humans to stop polluting the planet. You gave me an idea for a post. I'm going to go over many styles of nasty cone styles because I realize many folks still don't know about their other options. Of course yours is styling. Extra treats are definitely in order!!!
ReplyDeleteTwinkie
We hope that this gets better Thunder. We thinks that cone looks comfy... better than those hard ones.
