We received a wonderful book in the mail this week. "What's Wrong with Gibson?" is written by Dorothy Wills-Rafferty, Mom to the Five Sibes, and illustrated by her good friend Michelle Littler.
In the words of the author:
Our five Siberian Huskies that we raised since pups, and their real life antics are the inspiration to my series, and What's Wrong With Gibson is based on my boy having seizures, which I translated into a short tale that makes it easy for children who may have Epilepsy themselves, or know someone who does, to understand. The tale is about how while the Huskies are out playing in the snow one day, Gibson suddenly has a seizure. As the short story unfolds, in easy-to-understand rhymes accompanied by colorfully adorable illustrations, the three young pups discover that their big brother has Canine Epilepsy and they get a hands-on lesson about care and first aid from the pack's alpha leader, Harley.
We were lucky enough to have our two special pals join us for the first reading.

We all really enjoyed the story very much.
And as an added feature of the book, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated by the author to the Canine Epilepsy Resources Center.

It's so nice to raise awareness of canine epilepsy. Years ago, we had a silkie terrier who had seizures. Apparently his prior owner didn't want to or couldn't deal with it as we found him wandering our neighborhood one afternoon. We gave a really great last 4 years of his life.
What a great idea for the book. Anything that takes away the fear and gives positive information for kids is terrific. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)

We got our copy in the mail the other day and you are so right...it is a sensitive and well presented story that increases awareness helps fund a great cause.
