It's Seuss Day!!!

Today is the birthday of the famous Theodore S. Geisel, the author of so many beloved children's books.  With the help of Ann from Zoolatry, we are joining Zoolatry and Da Weenies of Florida to celebrate this special day.

Mr. Geisel is extra special to the Momster because he was born in her birth city of Springfield, Massachusetts.  The influence of Ted's memories of Springfield can be seen throughout his work. Drawings of Horton the Elephant meandering along streams in the Jungle of Nool, for example, mirror the watercourses in Springfield's Forest Park from the period. The fanciful truck driven by Sylvester McMonkey McBean in The Sneetches could well be the Knox tractor that young Ted saw on the streets of Springfield. In addition to its name, Ted's first children's book, And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, is filled with Springfield imagery, including a look-alike of Mayor Fordis Parker on the reviewing stand, and police officers riding red motorcycles, the traditional color of Springfield's famed Indian Motocycles.  The Quadrangle in Springfield now has a special memorial to comemorate the legacy of this man.

Pleas stop by Zoolatry to find more Seussical creations by our good friend.

I've thought of your "woos" several times recently. It's birthday season in my extended family. When we call to sing happy birthday, R throws his head back and woos along with us! It makes our birthday messages very distinctive!

  43. Sorry our assistant doesn't have the poetic gene in her, but we really enjoyed your poem and some of the clever comments.

Hope you guys have a really good storm shelter really close, just in case. It's been a wild Spring and tornado season is just getting started. When mama was a little girl, the storm shelter at her grandma's was literally a hole in the ground with a heavy wooden door.
