I, Thunder, feel so very special to be surrounded by so much love from my pack, Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning. Mom and Dad have been spending lots of time with me, petting me, rubbing my shaved tummy, and slipping me some extra treats. And I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from all of you out there. I have received so many heartwarming comments and emails, from all my pals and from new friends from far and wide. All of your good thoughts and wishes and prayers are so very much appreciated by me and my whole family. A very big woo-filled thank you from all of us.
And now Mom's turn. I wish I could tell you some good things. This photo was taken earlier this week, and it is amazing how quickly Thunder has faded since then. Without getting into all the medical details, his hematocrit is continuing to drop. His breathing has become very rapid, even when he is totally asleep. Most of his time is spent on his side asleep or resting. We have done a lot of talking and consulting with our vet about the quality of life. We are pretty sure he isn't in any pain, but we know he is not comfortable. We are sad to say that we are no longer talking about months with our special boy. It is so very hard for me to write this - the tears just keep coming. But I want you all to know how very much we thank you for all your support and concern. You are all the greatest.

As I sat in the vets office today with my MOM I could not help but think of my buddy Thunder and we said another prayer right there for him, prayers for comfort and peace. ReplyDeleteWe are just heartbroken over here, and mom is crying right along with you. She knows the very spot you are in, because four years ago (when I wasn't even born yet) my family lost their dogter, Sophie. Sophie, a beautiful collie, had by all accounts seemed to be a healthy 4-year old. Then, out of nowhere, she got violently sick. It was like zero to 90 in one day. She suffered in an animal hospital for four long, agonizing days - until my family could not let her suffer any longer. So, my mom, dad and human sister hugged her and loved her before doing what they knew they needed to do for her. Even four years later, it is still mind-boggling to them how fast the whole downward spiral occurred. To wrap up on a positive note though, I want to tell you that my human sister created a "Memory Box" for Sophie. She is very artistic, and she decorated the outside of the box with photos and artwork about Sophie. Then, my family put special Sophie items inside the box. And, this Memory Box of Sophie was and is still a therapeutic remembrance of my family's special dogter. Heartfelt hugs to all of you ~ Stewey and his mom
