Here is another shot of us from today on our sweltering HOT deck. Yesterday a few of you commented on how nice Mom's planters are doing and how good Misty is being with the flower pots. Well, we are here today to tell you that there HAS been some mischief going on with the plants, and Mom isn't sure what to do.
Look what we found!!! Some of our furs are deep inside one of the long planters mixed in with some other debris. Surely SomePup has been up to mischief.
Hey, don't blame me. I did NOT do THAT. It is that silly little bird who seems to think she has found the perfect spot for her nest. See, I am not the only silly creature around here. I bet you all thought it was ME up to some mischief.
Why would I want to mess around out in that heat when there is plenty of mischievous things I can do inside:)!!!
Now we have a dilemma. If we leave the nest there, once there are chirping babies in there, it is going to be quite the temptation for us. There isn't anywhere safe to put the planter in the backyard where we wouldn't be able to reach it. And Mom thinks the Mama Bird won't come back if she moves the planter to the front porch. Should she try taking the nest out before Mama Bird lays her eggs? Or will she just make a new one in there? Or should she take a chance with us? Any thoughts?
Woos - Lightning and Misty
Hmmmm I am not sure what to do. not the ideal place for a nest.
ReplyDeleteI would move the nest and hope the Momma finds it. I hope you get some cool temps your way!
ReplyDeleteWe KNEW you wouldn't be up to any mischief, Misty!
ReplyDeleteCammie
PS: Mom says she wishes we lived closer - that she'd love to lend her blower to your mom or to blow your coat out herself. She really likes doing it. Something about "like bubble wrap". I have no idea what that means!
PPS: She also said that the best thing for the birdies at this point is to leave the nest. :(
Oh dear me if you take the nest out she would either build again or move on to another planter too. She obviously likes your deck. If you left the birdies hatch and I was there OMCs it would turn in to a horror show. I don't know if you Woos would be interested in the babies. Mama bird must be a young mama to make a nest there.
ReplyDeleteGood luck and keep us posted!!
Hugs madi and mom
That sure looks like a birdie nest. The nest in our bush by the front door had long pieces of blue string woven into it. The birdies are very creative with their nest building!
ReplyDeleteAs Mama Birds scare easily, we'd probably leave it alone, or remove it so she finds another place. And Misty, we KNOW you wouldn't cause any mischief....bwahaahaa!
ReplyDeleteMt vote is to leave the nest there and just hope that Misty girl doesn't bother the baby birds. And maybe the Momma bird will let Misty know, the nest is off limits. One can only hope.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy Fourth.
The one time I did that for a dove that built a nest where Barkley could reach it, she just built another one.
ReplyDeleteWe think the safest thing is to move the nest and hope she goes someplace the Woos can't get near.

As long as there aren't any eggs in the nest you can try removing it from the planter. The birds might just try to redo it or move on. If it is started again you might try to move the planter to a corner that you can fence off from the dogs. Otherwise you will probably have to put the dogs on leash to get them past when there are screeching baby birds in there. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteA while, a mama bird built a nest at our tiny planter on our small balcony where we were not able to reach but able to bark hard if mama and family are around. Mom felt bad but didn't know what to do, she placed a big bottle of Perrier over the nest to avoid mama bird to come back BUTT the nest was bigger next day.
ReplyDeleteAfter that day, our mom moved the nest to the safe spot at the nearby park feeling guilty but hoping for the best.

NOw that is a dilemma. Once dad was cutting down a juniper bush and found a nest with eggs in it. So what was left of the bush stayed until the eggs hatched and babies gone

It is hard to get rid of a bird's nest. They are very stubborn about rebuilding. Good luck. Hopefully you two can live and let live
ReplyDeletewe had a nest in a bush what was in phenny's operation range... fortunately it was not finished an there were no eggs inside... we had to remove it... with a heave heart butt everything what could happen to the future little berds was much more worse...
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of july!!!
You're off the hook, Misty! I knew it wasn't you!
ReplyDeleteKnowing my mom, she would move the nest so I couldn't get at it.
Misty I knew that was a birdie nest right away! We had a Mom house wren start a nest in the door wreath. My Mom moved the wreath just one foot away from the door with the nest intact but Mom bird hasn't been back. We figure she only wanted it WHERE IT WAS and not in a new location - thankfully there were no eggs in it. Hard to know what to do in these situations!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy
Oh wow that is a rough one. That is definitely a nest. I know of a blogger who roped off that area until the babies were born and left, that might be too hard for you to do. If you move it, she probably won't come back, whatever you do, you have to do it before there are eggs. Good luck! DakotasDen
ReplyDeleteMisty that is a good question.
ReplyDeleteSurely you wouldn't hurt baby birds.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
My mom would not trust me at all!

One time our pawrents let a nest stay in place for the same concerns. Unfortunately it was at the front door. It was a bad situation . . .
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
We'd leave the nest and find another way to keep you two away from it while the eggs and then babies are there. Like maybe put other pots of plants in front of those so you can't get close enough to them. Of course that means you'll be snoopervised every time you're outside.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th to you!
Mummy would leave it but then I don't take any notice of birds and birds like me the even land next to me in the garden to feed off insects off the plants!
ReplyDeleteAnyWoo...Congratulations on winning my Summer Safety ASPCA Giveaway,Can you email my mummy your address, thanks,xx Speedy

I think I would leave it alone and barricade it with chairs if there are babies.
