Flower Friday

We don't have many flowers in bloom here for the winter, but Mom has three "Christmas" cacti that she wants us to share as part of Arty, Jakey, and Rosy's Flower Friday.

This is the newest one Mom has - she picked it up last year.

BUT it only has ONE flower.  Mom says she thinks it is because it gets too much light at night from the family room.  It sits on the counter that divides the kitchen from the great room.  These flowers bloom best if they are kept in an area with very low light from mid-fall to early December.  But even the solo flower is pretty to look at.

We have two other Christmas cacti that sit on the mantle over the kitchen fireplace.

Here is a closeup of the pink one.  Mom just loves the color.

Here is the white one.  It too has flowered nicely but Mom prefers the bright pink ones.

Here is a full shot of the pink one.  It looks so healthy.  The white and pink cacti don't get much light at night because the kitchen is pretty dark once dinner is done.  It would be nice if these plants bloomed more often during the year.

Lastly we have a photo of some of the many flowers our human sister K has received from family and friends.  They sure do a great job of lifting the spirits.

This one is very special as it was made by twin daughter C and her two neighbor friends.  Their Mom had C over to play the day of surgery to keep her distracted from worrying about her Mom.  The three girls cut out and pasted the flowers. The blooms are attached to uncooked spaghetti strands for stems.  So pretty and so thoughtful:)

No flowers here, but we sure are enjoying our bonefest.

Lightning:  Hmmm, are those looking to see who is going to steal MY bone or are they pondering a bone swap?

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

From Mom:  The pups are happy that they have been able to get some posts up this week despite my busy schedule.  Seems like there is always some down time while waiting for that washer to finish its cycles - those three grands can sure dirty a lot of clothes:)  My daughter continues to do very well. Thanks again for all your support.

  2. Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh mom loves Cacti your Momster has a cacti green thumb!!...Mom used to have one that did pretty good...then they moved to here and there just isn't enough sunlight in places where there is somewhere to sit a plant that a jumpin' kitty can't reach.

Oh my word the vase of handmade flowers made mom's eyes a wee bit moist.

  5. So glad your daughter is doing so well, continuing to pray for her. Hunter got one of those bones, but hasn't chewed on it at all. I'm hoping when his cousins(Petrol, Lily and Copper)see it and chew on it, it will get him interested. Have a great weekend.
    Hugs and wags,

  6. We went back and read about sister K, we are sure it is a relief to have the surgery over and that she is back home ~ no place like home to recover. Must be nice having your doctor next door. Prays for her full recovery. We have a Christmas cactus that is over twenty years old. For the last several years it has bloomed before Thanksgiving but this year it blooms opened on Christmas Day and continued to the New Year.

  10. There are no flowers at our house right now. Ghostwriter can grow all kinds of flowers outside in summer. But indoors, forget it! She can't even keep an air plant alive! We're glad you have lots of pretty flowers to cheer you up during these tense times. Still sending lots of POTP!

  11. I love your cacti! I agree that the pink is gorgeous!

The flowers made by C and her friends are so thoughtful and beautiful. I think it was a great project for her friend's mom to help them to do!

I'm so glad that your daughter is progressing and healing. You're a good mom to help so much :)

  18. I put my "Christmas cactus" out all summer long under a covered patio and bring them in before the frost. This year they both bloomed by the end of October in brilliant shades of hot pink and coral until Thanksgiving (they always bloom early with our altitude). And they always make me smile. Yours are super gorgeous. I may have to look for a pale one, I love that white. So peaceful looking. Happy weekend!

  21. The pink cactus is such a pretty color! Mackey likes to collect all the toys and keep them for herself but she knows better than to touch Bailey's toys.
