Yesterday we received this comment from Abby Lab.
"Mom can't figure out how your house always looks so spotlessly clean with all of those paws in and out. We have hardwood, and it always looks like it needs a mopping.
Abby Lab"
Mom said not to be fooled by that "whitish" carpet. It is actually pretty dirty and needs a good cleaning. But she keeps saying not until the muddy yard is really dry. And our hardwoods always need a mopping. Meanwhile she takes other measures to help prevent the muddy pawprints through the family room. We think it amounts to total Momster Mischief.
The only way for us to get outside to our outdoor kingdom and then back inside is through the door that leads to the deck. The other back door goes into the garage. If we were to use that door through the garage, Mom would have to leash us and walk us around the side of the house and in through the gate. That doesn't work for her at all.
The view headed to OUTSIDE via the deck door.
The view as we come IN from the deck door entry. Outside door on the left at the front of photo and kitchen gate on the left at the far end of photo. The other gate more to the right keeps us from gaining access to the formal living room, dining room, and upstairs.
Whoever designed this house decided to leave a hardwood pathway along the carpet of the family room. Years ago Mom used plastic runners to protect the carpet, but the plastic runners had spikes on the backside of them and that would scratch the floors. If she used the runners without the spikes, the runners would move out of place all the time. When Mom and Dad decided to replace the family room carpeting a few years ago, the salesman told her about another option. He recommended that long runner you see in the photos above. Mom found a remnant of a very high quality carpeting . It was under $100. The firm that does the binding for the carpet store recommended a product called teebaud. They used the teebaud as an underlayment attached to the carpet runner along with the binding. It works superbly. The carpet doesn't move on the white carpet OR on the floor. It stays completely in place.
The blue is the teebaud material. The runner now works well for dry days when our feet are not dirty or wet.
If our paws are only wet, it is still a good protection for the white carpet. BUT when we have a muddy yard like we have had forever now, Mom resorts to extreme measures.
The old quilts help grab some of the mud as soon as we come in and head to the kitchen. And then all Mom has to do is toss the quilts in the wash for the next muddy occurrence.
BUT somePup (and it is not a boy) likes to make a full circle through the family room on her re-entry to the house. And of course, if we all come in at the same time, it is RACE ON for all of us. And THAT makes for a very not-so-white carpet!
So the mischievous Momster has now resorted to these gate contraptions you see here.
So whether we are headed IN from outside or
getting ready to go outside, the gates keep us on the quilts.
SHE thinks we haven't discovered that there is still a way for us to get around the barricade.
BOL - you can't trick us - but at least our paws are clean:)

We are in Awe of all your sweet Mom does
Hugs madi your bfff
Our peeps do that old quilt thing on the garage floor. As we run in the door, Dad makes us walk back and forth on the quilts to clean and dry our feet. Then we get to go into the house.

ReplyDeleteOMD Woosters... what you are saying is you have the best pawssible of homes and hucarers a dog could ever wish for! My angel Jade always let me wipe her paws... it was Jasper cat who presented me with muddy trubs!!! Hugs and wags, YAM-aunty xxx
Our pawrents are lucky because we can get to our backyard from our garage. There is a door just off the end of the kitchen and we only use that door to get outside. We have a couple of steps into the house and our pawrents have us stand on the steps while they wipe our muddy feet before we get inside. We've been going through a lot of towels lately.
ReplyDeleteDang, and you go to all that work getting those paws muddy!
ReplyDeleteYou woofies are high maintenance! MOL!
ReplyDeleteThat is a clever idea with the quilts.
ReplyDeleteI think your mom is a genious. She know how to keep the clean part clean and never show the dirty party. Very clever
ReplyDeleteOh, your Moms is sneaky fursure!!!! since most of our backyardie is mulch and concrete, my paws stay mostly free of dirt, butts our floor suck, so it doesn't matter to Ma much if I gets the runners wet. Ma said she is gonna look into that backing....she is forever fixing all the runners, and it drives her nutty! (yeah, not a far drive ....)

See, that's why Momma LOVES the carpet at our new house. It's kind of a beige-y gray, so you can't really see dirt OR dog hair on it!
ReplyDeleteI hate to tell you three Woos, but that Mom is way ahead of you even if you just think you have found a way around the barricades. What fun to see all the Woos paths through the house. You all have a super duper day.
ReplyDeleteIn my house, there have not been carpets since the time of our Patron Saint Old Charisma because of the muddy yard. It's much easier to mop up muddy footprints from the bare floor.
ReplyDeleteI spotted the route round the barricade right away.
ReplyDeleteYour mom needs to think again! (Or just accept that you can have clean floors or three lively dogs, but not both...
Toodle pip!
Bertie.
PS Did I ever mention the mud in Scotland?
Ah haaaaa!!! The Momster has all the angles covered doesn't she!! Well with all those muddy paws she has to take DEFENSIVE measures that's for sure. Hopefully soon there will be just SUN and no mud which means no barriers.....hang in there WOOS.....!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Teddy
LOL! I have wondered the very same thing about your carpets stay so clean! The old quilts and runners are a great idea!
ReplyDeleteSo I have to tell you all I got this nifty thing from Santa Paws that I don't have to use (I hate to get my paws dirty so they never get muddy) but mom has used it on our B&B guests that wallow in mud and it is like magical! https://www.chewy.com/dexas-popware-pets-dexas-mudbuster/dp/155209
ReplyDeleteYour mum can come clean for us any time. Your house looks like something out of Better Homes & Gardens!

ReplyDeleteThe things us husky moms do to keep our house just a little bit presentable!(And thanks for the tip on the runner backing, interesting!) Our mom pretty much gives up during springtime mud season, and she looks forward to winter when the ground is frozen and paws stay clean!
