Awww Monday Misery

So we are going to start our week by wishing you all a belated Happy Easter.  We are sorry we missed visiting all of you for the past couple of days.

We had some misfortune happen on Friday night, and it really put a damper on our weekend.  Friday night was not a good Friday for Lightning.

Poor Lightning ruptured the CCL in his other back leg, the left one.  He was just walking in the yard while Mom was outside doing poop patrol.  All of a sudden Lightning let out a screech and sat down.  When Mom called him to her, the first thing she saw was his left rear leg hitched up in the air, and she knew exactly what had happened. The surgeon who did his knee repair last fall told her there is something like a 60% likelihood of a rupture in the other knee within a year.  Lightning's surgery was last October for his right knee.  The leg is still gimpy, and you can see how the fur is still growing back.

A visit to the vet on Saturday confirmed the bad news.  Unfortunately things are worse this time. There are some complications beyond the rupture.  It is not looking likely that surgery will be an option.  The vet is going to consult with the surgeon today to figure out what is the best way to proceed. For now Lightning is on some pain medication and is back on total leash restriction and lots of rest.

Lightning is such a good boy and a real trooper. He is trying so hard to get around, but the leg that was injured last fall has still not completely returned to normal.  The leg is not as strong as it needs to be to make up for the newly injured one.  He is a big boy and getting around is not easy.  We would all welcome all the POTP you can send his way.

For now he is in good hands and paws with all of his nursemaids.

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber, and Mom

  40. Oh dear...no....those darned CCLs... four out of five of mine injured theirs to some degree...Chloe was the worst, she needed emergency bilateral imbrication surgeries as she blew out both at same time while jumping up on the bed...and Wolf tore his one year just running around the yard, and then the following year the other. Both Harley and Gibson had slight tears and I did the Conservative Care Management route with rest and a leg brace. I am so sorry for Lightning...this is no way to celebrate his birthday. I hope he is not in too much pain, and that he heals well...sending POTP and lots of love and Husky hugs... xoxoxox
