Awww Monday

Quick update on Misty.  We saw the vet this morning and he confirmed the cyst area was still draining AND infected.

We will spare you what things looked like BEFORE, but here is the area deeply cleaned and irrigated.  A slide of the debris confirmed at least two identifiable bacteria and multiple others.

Misty does not tolerate ANY kind of medication well at all due to her untreatable Inflammatory Bowel Disease and her very odd immune system.  But in this situation she desperately needs an antibiotic.  Dr. B. and I discussed our options.  One of the best choices for most dogs would be a one time injection of Convenia, an antibiotic that would last for 14 days.  But not knowing what impact it would have on Misty's system, we did not go that route since once injected, there is no way to stop it if it affected her negatively.  So she is on a combination tablet of 500 mg of amoxicillin and 125 mg of clavamox for 10 days.  If it worsens within that time or doesn't heal after finishing, Dr. B. will have to remove it surgically.

One of two surgical shirts ordered for her yesterday arrived this morning.  It appears to do the trick.  She can't get at the wound and neither can her helpful brother:). And she can be cone-free.  The shirt actually has a piece at the base that is tucked up inside a pouch on the back which can go around her back legs and through her tail.  But the shirt fits well enough without that configuration that she can't push it up like she did with her other shirts.  Fingers crossed this works.

Sunday Selfie/Ussie

Today we have a simple Ussie for you.

We hope you are all having a good weekend.  Yes, sadly Misty is still in her cone.  Mom will be in touch with our vet first thing in the morning because she is very certain that Misty's wound from the cyst is infected.  It had been looking pretty good until Saturday when the scab started to get thicker. Today it is oozing a bit, and the telltale odor is there.  Mom has ordered two different surgical shirts for her to see if that will work out better than the cone.  One arrives tomorrow, the other Tuesday (or at least that is what we are hoping).  They may not work if the area needs air to heal.

We also are taking today to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving Day.  We have family arriving tomorrow and once that happens, our house becomes the hub of all activity.  We may not have time to visit or comment until next weekend at the earliest.  Take the time to enjoy your time with family and be thankful for all the little things in your lives.

Thankful Thursday Maybe?

So today is Thankful Thursday, a Blog Hop sponsored by Brian's Home Blog.  Timber thinks Misty should be thankful he is such a good and helpful brother.

Timber:  My sweet sister Misty has a boo boo on her side, and it gets itchy and really bothers her.  Mom says it is another of the many sebaceous cysts Misty has had to deal with over the years.  This one has been around for a while and recently got a lot bigger and firmer.  A week or so ago it popped, and Misty tried to help clean it (and I might have helped her too).  It was between the size of a large grape tomato and a small Roma tomato.

So now you see why she is wearing the beloved cone. At first Mom put a shirt on her, but Misty figured out how to lift the shirt up enough to get at the area.  It is on her side about midway down the body.

So are you wondering why I, Timber, think Misty should be thanking me???  Well, she can't get at that area at all with the cone on, and she may have whispered to me how much it is bugging her.

So I thought I would do a good deed and try to help soothe that spot for her. I think I did a very good job of cleaning it up with my tongue, I mean, who wants a scab there anyway?

Well, it turns out that Mom had a different thought on that one, and she said I was not helping at all.  The scab was supposedly a sign that things were healing.  How was I suppose to know that?

Gee thanks for all the help, Timber.  Mom says she may now have to put both the shirt AND the cone on me, the shirt to keep you away and the cone to keep me away.  I think I have a better solution.  Hey readers, what do you think of this - Mom needs to put a cone on Timber TOO so he can't be so helpful:)

Sunday Ussie with a Touch of Caturday Art

Today we offer you sort of a double decker Ussie.

Aside from Misty's dangle, we are also a bit synchronized:). We both have our heads down because it has been a rainy weekend, and we are stuck inside.  But the peeps say we desperately need the rain.

Mom decided to get fancy and do some artsy stuff with our Ussie.

She used Lunapic's Monster at 50% and Soft Lighting at 50%.  So does that make us softly lit monsters???
