Walking Wednesday with the Woos and one Weird Woo

Today we thought we would show you a little video of us out on our walks. Lightning and Ciara go together for a long one, and Phantom gets to go by himself because sometimes he doesn't like to go too far.  Part of the reason for this video is to show you how paranoid Lightning can be with the silliest of things.  He really doesn't like bikes, skateboards, scooters, baby strollers, and the like.  He has gotten a lot better about these things as long as they don't get too close.  But once he sees one, he is always on alert to be sure it has passed by and is nowhere nearby to threaten him.  Enjoy.

We all know that biking is great for conditioning.  So Mom thought she would try bikes for a bit of "conditioning" Lightning.

Yikes, what is THAT out on my patio?????  And how did it get there?

Mom put one of the bipeds old bikes out there to see how he would react.  As you can see, caution is utmost.

After a little while, he decides to get a little closer.

He even got close enough for a sniff or two.

Well, it isn't moving - so maybe he can try walking by it.  Hmmm, maybe this conditioning is working.  Next step is to put a live human on the bike:)

Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning

Note from the Momster:  I had to use Vimeo for this video because for some reason I can't get my iMovie to connect to my YouTube.  I have always used it, haven't changed username or password, but it won't recognize it now.  Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this?  I don't mind Vimeo, but it takes forever to upload a video.

  2. Maggie acts the very same way on her walks, even tho she is safe and sound. She has always been an anxious little pug. I like your idea of sitting that bike out there.

  3. Poor Lightning! Those bikes do look scary but hopefully you'll realize they won't hurt you! Phantom, it's so good seeing you out enjoying your walk and catching up on all the pee-mail!

  4. We always have to stand still when bikes pass us.

Hope that little bike works and he doesn't accidently knock it over and get scared!

  7. I had a similar thing with Riley. He loves food, so I used food treats to get him used to trains going past a dog park we often go to. At first the sound upset him, as a new train service started on old tracks. Now when he hears a train, he is happy and will look at me expecting something good to happen(i.e. getting food or a pat). I'm guessing you will leave food treats (or a favorite toy) by the bike first, then have you sitting on the bike (with a happy voice) handing out treats or part of dinner, before the bike is moving with a treat carrying human. With lots of little steps conditioning does work!

    Best wishes,
    Riley's human

  12. That was a fun walk! I'm surprised that Shiver doesn't seem to care about bikes. He's a very nervous and anxious doggy, and anything different in his life/schedule is upsetting to him. But he doesn't seem to mind bikes! He doesn't really care for walks though. I still make him go from time to time.

  13. Maybe Lightening could get a treat for going near the bike - or a "click" and then a treat…btw, Lightening, I'm scared of horses…SHUDDER… as Frankie would say!

  14. Too cute! Phantom walks very much like Pip used to walk - something about the way he moves and looks around reminds of Pip.

The pictures with the bike are hysterical!

  15. Lightning should try taking a walk with Flattery! She checks everything out, too, mostly because she hopes that everyone will want to pet her!

PeeEss From Mama...You tube switched over to using google passwords and usernames. I had to change mine in iMovie awhile back in order to post movies, maybe that is what's happening?

  17. Thanks so much for taking us along on your walk!! Miss Chloe is afraid of MANY things! Lightning is great compared to her! Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling imovie and/or YouTube? Sometimes that helps....

    Good luck!

  20. Whew. We sure are tired after that long walk! Lightning, we sure hope the slow conditioning helps you feel more confident so you can enjoy your walks better.

  21. Good luck with the conditioning. Lucky we have no such problem as the stupid council put a bike bath right through our park. Have a tremendous Thursday.

  22. Easy hates bikes too, it's always a challenge for his dad when they cross our way. Sadly it seems all people here have a bike... or two :o)

  23. You can't be too careful, Lightning! I used to HATE bikes. Now I'm more used to them and will tolerate them, but I still don't want one too close to me.

  24. The video makes me miss my Freddy. He was such a good walker. He LOVED to walk. He would PULL you further and further if he could. Buddy will do whatever you want. Bella is an okay walker, but she doesn't PEE on her walks! Strangest dog ever. I made a video for a friend's birthday last night and I could not find a good program to use. The only clear video I can get is through my iphone, but my PC only shows grainy video. Is Vimeo for apple or PC?

  25. Hope the conditioning works. We go nuts when we see a biker, skateboarder, jogger, loud car or motorcycle. If it moves, we want to chase.

  26. I share you wheeled-fear. Those things are skeery! But when BP came along I was fine with his stroller. Go figure, eh?

I think it's the sound of those wheels on pavement! Ouch they hurt my giant ears!

  27. hahaha! Lexus is the SAME way when it comes to bikes and skate boards! Not sure what it is? Great video though, and I love how you put a bike in the yard! Too funny!

  35. Little Mackey is like that. Part way thru the door she stops and flattens down to the ground and looks all around. If there's no threat she goes into the yard. If she sees anything she doesn't recognize, she freezes and won't move. It's left over from fireworks fears.

  36. de-sensitizing really does work...maybe this will help Lightning a bit at a time.
