Today we thought we would show you a little video of us out on our walks. Lightning and Ciara go together for a long one, and Phantom gets to go by himself because sometimes he doesn't like to go too far. Part of the reason for this video is to show you how paranoid Lightning can be with the silliest of things. He really doesn't like bikes, skateboards, scooters, baby strollers, and the like. He has gotten a lot better about these things as long as they don't get too close. But once he sees one, he is always on alert to be sure it has passed by and is nowhere nearby to threaten him. Enjoy.
We all know that biking is great for conditioning. So Mom thought she would try bikes for a bit of "conditioning" Lightning.
Yikes, what is THAT out on my patio????? And how did it get there?
Mom put one of the bipeds old bikes out there to see how he would react. As you can see, caution is utmost.
After a little while, he decides to get a little closer.
He even got close enough for a sniff or two.
Well, it isn't moving - so maybe he can try walking by it. Hmmm, maybe this conditioning is working. Next step is to put a live human on the bike:)
Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Note from the Momster: I had to use Vimeo for this video because for some reason I can't get my iMovie to connect to my YouTube. I have always used it, haven't changed username or password, but it won't recognize it now. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can fix this? I don't mind Vimeo, but it takes forever to upload a video.
OMD Phantom.... did you take one of those SPEED READING Classes? You read that Pee Mail on the Telephone post SO Fast.
ReplyDeleteLoved going fur the walkie with all of you...
Maggie acts the very same way on her walks, even tho she is safe and sound. She has always been an anxious little pug. I like your idea of sitting that bike out there.

Poor Lightning! Those bikes do look scary but hopefully you'll realize they won't hurt you! Phantom, it's so good seeing you out enjoying your walk and catching up on all the pee-mail!
ReplyDeleteWe always have to stand still when bikes pass us.
ReplyDeleteHope that little bike works and he doesn't accidently knock it over and get scared!
Lightning and Denny could be twins !!! HE is scared of all the same thing and more :)
ReplyDeleteWe loved tagging along on your walkies, guys. Molly is jumpy about a lot of things too, Lightning!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots♥

I had a similar thing with Riley. He loves food, so I used food treats to get him used to trains going past a dog park we often go to. At first the sound upset him, as a new train service started on old tracks. Now when he hears a train, he is happy and will look at me expecting something good to happen(i.e. getting food or a pat). I'm guessing you will leave food treats (or a favorite toy) by the bike first, then have you sitting on the bike (with a happy voice) handing out treats or part of dinner, before the bike is moving with a treat carrying human. With lots of little steps conditioning does work!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Riley's human
Thanks for taking us on the walk, we enjoyed it!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting us go on your walk. Good thing that bike in your yard wasn't moving.
ReplyDeleteHope your plan works! Some of us pups have our little quirks...

Phantom is looking really good.
Enjoyed following your walks!

That was a fun walk! I'm surprised that Shiver doesn't seem to care about bikes. He's a very nervous and anxious doggy, and anything different in his life/schedule is upsetting to him. But he doesn't seem to mind bikes! He doesn't really care for walks though. I still make him go from time to time.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Lightening could get a treat for going near the bike - or a "click" and then a treat…btw, Lightening, I'm scared of horses…SHUDDER… as Frankie would say!
ReplyDelete-Otto
Too cute! Phantom walks very much like Pip used to walk - something about the way he moves and looks around reminds of Pip.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures with the bike are hysterical!
Lightning should try taking a walk with Flattery! She checks everything out, too, mostly because she hopes that everyone will want to pet her!
ReplyDeleteBunny
Jake also gets a bit nervous when we go on walks!

PeeEss From Mama...You tube switched over to using google passwords and usernames. I had to change mine in iMovie awhile back in order to post movies, maybe that is what's happening?
Thanks so much for taking us along on your walk!! Miss Chloe is afraid of MANY things! Lightning is great compared to her! Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling imovie and/or YouTube? Sometimes that helps....
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Thank you! :)
ReplyDeletewe agree bikes are kinda scary

Poor baby! Mommy had to laugh because Princeton is our big, bad kitteh, but the biggest fraidy cat we have when it comes to new things! MOL!
ReplyDeleteXOXO
Whew. We sure are tired after that long walk! Lightning, we sure hope the slow conditioning helps you feel more confident so you can enjoy your walks better.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the conditioning. Lucky we have no such problem as the stupid council put a bike bath right through our park. Have a tremendous Thursday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Easy hates bikes too, it's always a challenge for his dad when they cross our way. Sadly it seems all people here have a bike... or two :o)
ReplyDeleteYou can't be too careful, Lightning! I used to HATE bikes. Now I'm more used to them and will tolerate them, but I still don't want one too close to me.
ReplyDeleteThe video makes me miss my Freddy. He was such a good walker. He LOVED to walk. He would PULL you further and further if he could. Buddy will do whatever you want. Bella is an okay walker, but she doesn't PEE on her walks! Strangest dog ever. I made a video for a friend's birthday last night and I could not find a good program to use. The only clear video I can get is through my iphone, but my PC only shows grainy video. Is Vimeo for apple or PC?
ReplyDeleteHope the conditioning works. We go nuts when we see a biker, skateboarder, jogger, loud car or motorcycle. If it moves, we want to chase.
ReplyDeleteI share you wheeled-fear. Those things are skeery! But when BP came along I was fine with his stroller. Go figure, eh?
ReplyDeleteI think it's the sound of those wheels on pavement! Ouch they hurt my giant ears!
hahaha! Lexus is the SAME way when it comes to bikes and skate boards! Not sure what it is? Great video though, and I love how you put a bike in the yard! Too funny!
ReplyDeleteღ husky hugz ღ frum our pack at Love is being owned by a husky!
We felt like we were really on that walk with you

Lightning buddy I agree with you those bikes are sneaky...kinda like a snake...where there is one there is another. I loved seeing you and Ciara strolling.
ReplyDeletePhantom!!!! Bravo Bravo Bravo what a good walker you are. You take time to smell the roses, coffee and smell mail
Hugs madi your bfff
PS mom doesn't know anything about Vimeo...
Lightning is just cautious....we know all about that since Raz is that way about things in our house.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
He is just very cautious. Looks like a fun walk though. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, I must admit - I'd be barking at that thing! BUFF! BUFF!!! BUFF!!!
ReplyDeleteCammie!
Gosh I am sorry I missed this post. The video is terrific. Ciara looks nice and happy. And it was great fun seeing Phantom. Looks like he enjoys smelling everything. Good boy Lightning for sniffing the bike. You might enjoy going for a nice walk with a bike person. You all have a great day and hope that Ciara is doing well.
ReplyDeleteHi Guys!
ReplyDeleteRemember me?:) Phantom you're more my speed now too! You all look good! Hope you're have the bestest summer!
tula
Little Mackey is like that. Part way thru the door she stops and flattens down to the ground and looks all around. If there's no threat she goes into the yard. If she sees anything she doesn't recognize, she freezes and won't move. It's left over from fireworks fears.
ReplyDeletede-sensitizing really does work...maybe this will help Lightning a bit at a time.
