What's Under There?

Detective Thunder reporting here today.

This morning I was let out at the usual early rising hour of 4:45 a.m. Mom kept calling me to come inside after a few minutes, but I wasn't coming when she called. I stayed outside for almost two hours before I finally decided it was time to go see if Dad had some toast ready for me. Now you may wonder why I would want to stay out in the dark, damp morning for so long. Well, let me tell you it has something to do with this piece of equipment in the yard.

Yes, the playscape is for the grandbipeds who love to climb, and swing, and slide on it. But at that hour of the day, let me assure you there are no little kidlets out there. But something was there, I just know it,
I could smell it.

When I came inside, I forgot to clean my paws, so Mom knew I was up to something out there. She was worried that I had cornered a snake again, so she went out to check things out and discovered

THIS

A bit of a hole.

AND THIS

Some clawing work.

AND THIS TOO!

Rut roh, did I do THAT?

Maybe I need to spend a little time cleaning up the paws before she tries to capture some evidence on the flashy box.

So you could say she wasn't too happy with me. Later in the morning once all the kidlets had arrived and then left again for their morning activities, she and I went outside to investigate together.

See, I told her, right here I can smell something.
I just had to do some digging to see what it could be.

Mom, down there, there IS something.

You just have to let me do some more digging,
I can't fit my snooter under there yet.

We even managed to get a little video of my efforts. You can hear how hard I am sniffing to try to capture the essence of what is under there.

This was the Momster's temporary solution to the problem. She covered up all my detective work with a broken baby gate!!! What is she thinking? Then I heard her mumbling something about having to get some patio blocks to cover up the area. I need some help here.

Here is a look underneath - can any of you see what's under there?

So here I am now, in my meditation corner, trying very hard to come up with a new plan.

Woos,

  2. Oh, do you think it might be that squirrel from our garden?
It could be - we chased it up the trees and under the decking - they seem to get everywhere.
Good work Thunder, keep up your surveillance.
If you need us to come over let us know - we are very good at getting into low down places. Well we dont need to worry about our legs!

  4. OK, we don't have grandbipeds yet and the boybeans are grown so I get the jungle gym to myself. The cats used to hang out on it, but it is in my yard so they don't go out there unless Daddy puts them on it. I excavated under mine. It makes a great place to sleep on hot days. ~S,S,C & F

  5. Sometimes Moms just don't understand. Mom kept asking me why I insisted on rolling in the sand this weekend and getting it all in my eyes. Sheesh...Moms.

  7. OMG HAVE THE SQUIRRELS GONE UNDERGROUND???!?! Do they have no mercy?!?!?

Maybe it was a froggie...froggies are hard to find cause they're the color of dirt and they can sit really still...

I really hope it wasn't an underground squirrel..I'll have nightmares!!!

  8. I was with you all the way there Thunder, although my words just then don't seem good grammar!

But I was kinda distracted by your sidebar........."whack a squirrel" could I get it changed to "whack a cat"?

I am awaiting trial for cat chasing (and more) can you be a witness to my previously good character?

  10. Hmmm! I wonder what your "Plan B" is going to be, Thunder? It must have smelled really delicious. I bet it is a lizard or a chipmonk or maybe even a possum. .. what do you think?

  11. Could be mice. You'd be doing your mom a favor by finding them and then either chasing them away or taking prisoners. If she won't allow you to dig or hunt though, there's not much you can do. I hope she doesn't live to regret this...

  12. We agree with MFT and think that you were trying to protect your mom and the kidlets from a bunny invasion.

  18. If only you had some more time alone this morning before going in to eat, you might have got that critter totally dug out. You sure did a good job going after it. It's too bad your mom is putting a stop to some of your detective tactics.

  19. Thunder, you are a very good hunter, and like Tank, I hope that your Mama doesn't live to regret not letting you continue your stake out!

  24. Excellent work, TD. Natasha was furiously trying to get underneath the humans hottub, so maybe the creatures are everywhere!

P.S. - Natasha often goes out at night and refuses to come inside. She is weird like that.

  25. You were just trying to clear things out for the little ones. Surely there is something lurking under there.

  27. My first thought was a Scooby Ball like under Kat and Steve's playhouse, too! Or maybe your stuffie tree took root under there?
Or ... maybe ... just maybe YOU aren't the one who dug at the wood. Maybe there's a roving band of beavers in Overland Park!

  28. Dear Thunder,
How exciting, yet frustrating! You need to keep a good eye on it in case it comes running out. I think that may be your only chance!

  35. sigh. Thunder, doesn't your mom know by NOW that you can't take the "dig" out of a sibe? silly mom.

See now this IS the benefit of a sibe living with a GSD... she never goes out in the yard by herself, and always sticks around the GSD, who sticks around mom. tho, when mom is gone, that's a whole...err...HOLE 'nother story... Lots of yard diggin happens when the mom's gone...lucky for Juno the dog yard is a designated dig areas for sibes!

  39. Your human obviously has no idea that you are only trying to protect her and the kitlets from whatever evil thing is lurking under there! I think you are doing a fabulous job! Maybe your mom needs to let you under there to find out what it is!

Hey, you are only being your Siberian self, by trying to get at whatever creature is hiding under there.

I wish you great luck in getting to it.

I LOVE the wood biting pics!! Hawoowoowoo!!

Tell Mom you're protecting her and the kids.
