Thunder saved the day today for his Dad.
He even earned a gold star for his outstanding work.
He even earned a gold star for his outstanding work.
We will let him tell you the story.
Mom and Dad were both up very early today. Mom is always up early, but today Dad had to leave at 6:00 a.m. for a business trip so they were both up around 4:00 a.m. While he was showering and getting ready, Mom was fixing all his medications for his trip. Dad takes lots of pills for a variety of issues, and he has several eyedrops he has to use every day as well. Mom gets them all set up for him in their properly labeled prescription boxes and then packs them in the quart sized bags that the airlines require since that terrible day of 9/11. She puts them on the counter right next to his cell phone, blackberry, and paperwork for his trip. Then when he comes downstairs, he packs them all in his carry-on bag.
When he was leaving, Mom asked him if he was sure he had everything he needed, he said yes, and she did a quick look at the counter to be sure he had taken his meds. The counter was empty. Dad left, and Mom was busy ironing.
Phantom was busy doing this on the loveseat.
Then I moved here.
But I am not allowed on the wicker furniture so I had to get down.
I decided to try the big sofa since Phantom was on the loveseat.
I decided to try the big sofa since Phantom was on the loveseat.
But then Phantom got down, and I really prefer the loveseat -
it is really a very cozy spot.
it is really a very cozy spot.
But then I thought I smelled something different, so I stood up on the loveseat. I saw something resting on the back of the seat cushions. I kept staring at it, and Mom said, "TD, what are you doing?
Lie down or get down."
Lie down or get down."
I just kept staring and stayed there until finally she came over and saw what I was looking at. Two plastic bags with all of Dad's medications.
He had left them there.
He had left them there.
Now let me tell you, Mom just about freaked out. That's why there are no pics to show you what I had found. Dad had already been gone for over a half hour, and it is a 45 minute ride to the airport. She tried to call him on his cell phone to tell him she was on her way, but silly Dad never turns his phone on unless he is going to make a call. (Note from Mom, don't ask, no idea why he does that). So she left him a voice message and then sent him an email hoping he would be reading work emails on his blackberry. It is a terrible day here, it was raining very hard, there was a lot of traffic, and visibility was very poor. All the way she kept trying his cell phone, but no luck. Finally when she was about 10 minutes from the airport, he called her on her iPhone, she DOES turn hers on. He had just discovered he was missing his meds when he went to put them on the belt at the security check-in. He met her at the curb of the terminal and just made it on time for his plane.
All's well that ends well, but Mom says she would not have found them on time if it hadn't been for ME. Awwww, shucks.
Oh yeah, that will be just wonderful, a rolled salmon skin. Hmmm, she even has two in her hands, maybe this IS my lucky day.
Hey, wait a minute, why is he getting one too? What did he do?
Oh, I see, if he hadn't gotten down from the loveseat, then I wouldn't have gotten up there, and so I wouldn't have found the bags.
OK, Phantom, you can have one too.
Oh, I see, if he hadn't gotten down from the loveseat, then I wouldn't have gotten up there, and so I wouldn't have found the bags.
OK, Phantom, you can have one too.
That's OK, bro, you don't have to look at the flashy box, just eat up.
I still don't know how to hold it with my paws, but have no fear, I will have no trouble finishing it off.
Woos,
Oh Thunder you did save the day!!! Awesome job!!!
ReplyDeleteYour mom is very nice and must really love your daddy. My mum would have been so fuming mad that my daddy didn't answer his phone, that she would have called the airline and cancelled his flight and then...not answered her phone when he called. She would have then stuck the medicine bags on the outside of the door to our home and changed the locks....my mum can be really mean, I tell ya!
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe not that mean, but she sure would have been mad as hell.
Deetzy
Well done Thunder! That was good that you found those meds in time for your mom to rush to the airport.

ReplyDeleteExcellent job, Thunder. What a rescue. Our hu-dad has forgotten stuff on his busy-ness trips too, but at least he does leave his cell phone turned on. However, he gives thumbs up to your dad for that strategy.

Sally Ann
What a hero!!
ReplyDeleteYou are a life saving hero, Thunder! You deserve the gold star and the treat and lots of hugs. It was like a superhero story rushing in to save the day...and what a team Phantom moving off the loveseat so you could spot the problem, and mom racing to the airport like a crazy person to get there in time. Dad could use a little tuning up for the team...he really needs to leave his phone ON, in case of emergencies. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see the OP Pack with THE CORRECT ANSWERS!!! You were absolutely correct with the 63 groundhogs, I almost deleted the sidebar for this but thought I'd make one an easy question. I thought the other questions might be the hard ones. Thanks for playin' along and now you can email me at:

ReplyDeleteWay to go Thunder. And, you're an awesome story-teller.
ReplyDeleteAs an aside to your mom, my husband does the same darn thing with his cell phone. It drives me bananas that I can't call him when he's not by a landline. But, sometimes I think that might be the point... No, not really.
You did a great job telling the story, and a great thing helping your mom and dad.
ReplyDeletegussie
You are a hero for sure. Your dad's head could have exploded or something without his medications. Maybe he is related to my idiot mom. She never turns her phone on either and when she does its usually on vibrate and she doesn't even notice if it goes off.
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Mango
Four paws up fur woo, Thunder! What a pup!
ReplyDeleteWoos, those rolled salmon skins look good, maybe your mom can post where she gets those?
a-roos & woos,

Thunder you are a fabulous star.. I just love those eyes.. You are one gorgeous woofie.. You earned your gold star... Hugs GJ xx
ReplyDeleteThunder -- You deserve that gold star and more!!! Our Mom gets really distressed when our Dogdad travels and has his cell phone on vibrate or something and doesn't hear it -- so we understand how your mom must have felt.
ReplyDeleteBut bravo that she drove to the airport to get him his meds!! What a cool couple of humans you have -- no wonder you and Phantom are spso special.
Wirey love,
Jake and Just Harry
Superb team effort, and I do think a cash reward is in order! :)
ReplyDeleteThunder the Wonderpup to the rescue! and great supporting work by Phantom and Mom.
ReplyDeletePrincess Eva
Hi Thunder and Phantom,
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. You sure did a terrific thing finding the bags of medicine. So you guys got rain instead of the snow storm that was hammering us just a few hours north of you. I bet you two would like playing in all this cold white stuff though. I hate snow!
Waggles,
Bijou
Mr. Author called it a superb TEAM effort and I must agree. Thunder, Phantom and Mom working together got the meds to him. Yippeee!

TD, you are a real STAR!!!!! That is a great story! We think that deserves at least a lifetime of extra treats for both you and Phantom!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're a medicine-sniffing dog, Thunder -- well done!
ReplyDeleteGood job boys! You both did a great job! We think when your daddy gets back, he should give you boys each a big piece of steak!
ReplyDeleteSam & June
Thunder, you are the best! Way to go. Your dad would have been in a bad way without his medicine! With your dad gone and you being a hero, is your mom letting you sleep on the dad side of the bed with her?
ReplyDeleteLuv,
Kat
PS. You look like an olympian with that star!
I'm glad you visited us today!
ReplyDeleteWow, Thunder! That's awesome! Sometimes humans are slow to get it but your mom was certainly quick when it came to rewardtime! And sure enough, HE didn't do that much compared to YOU, but you know, a brother is a brother... at least that's how things work here in Africa.
Hey, I'd gladly teach you how to handle bones and other delish between your paws. I'm quite the expert and mom is so proud that I've taught my pups to do the same! They on the other hand have turned into excellent thieves, stealing things from my mouth and such, so if you have any advice on that, I'd be happy!
Warm greetings from Africa,
Sheba
PS: Snow says hi!
Thunder saves the day!
ReplyDeleteWoos to you!
