Wow, you are all so wonderful to me - Phantom. I am absolutely astounded at the support from so many of you after my injury. I want to thank all of you so very much for being so kind. I am doing very well. Last night Mom took me for a walk, but we stayed away from THAT street. She even took me to visit my donkey furiends.

I looked and looked for them, but I couldn't find them.
Maybe we will look again tonight.

Meanwhile, I must say I am getting lots and lots of extra attention at home because everyone wants me to know that all is well.

Now if I could only figure out how to tell them that I need this big black thing here to produce some more of that delicious steak I got to have last night.

And while we are on the subject of thanks, Mom said we have to beg for forgiveness from a few of our wonderful furiends who shared some great awards with us over the past month or so. Mom usually keeps a list on a paper, but she has lost the paper:( She hasn't been herself (don't tell her we said that) for a while now, too much going on from lots of levels or something like that. So now we don't know who to thank for some awards. If you gave us an award, and we didn't post about it, we are very sorry - it's all Mom's fault:( We promise we will do better the next time.

Here is one beauty that we are going to thank for sending us this great Halloween card:

Thanks, Twix. That was just so very sweet of you to do.

Happy Halloween to you too, Twix and Teresa.

Just for fun, here is some reverse synchronization
from the Inseparable Duo.

We also wanted to show you that we finally have some grass.

That dead speck in the back right is our neighbor's yard. The house has been for sale for almost a year now. The house is vacant and the property is really deteriorating. Ciara is wondering if she needs to go over and do some gardening.

Hey, how did this pic get in here??? This is the big sister to the twins you saw a few posts ago. A very pensive "Wendy" waiting for the school's Halloween parade to begin today and wondering where Peter Pan is.

Before we close, we did want you all to know that the owner of the dog who attacked Phantom has offered to pay for the bill. We haven't seen any green papers yet, but we will have to see how it all goes. From all the comments we received, it seems like many of you are not very thrilled about invisible fences either. We do want to mention again that this dog was not wearing his collar, so why bother with the fence? We run into loose dogs way too often lately. But we are going to be like our furiend Dennis the Viszla and not give up. Mom says it would be hard for her to carry a stick when she is walking two at a time, but she could probably manage it with one. And the suggestion about pepper spray is another good one. But when the moment happens so fast, she wonders if she would even be able to react fast enough. We will cross our paws and hope this was a one time event.

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara

  1. My asst. wishes she had gotten the dog owner's name when I got hurt... would have been nice to have a little help with the VET bills. It was different in that the dog wasn't intentionally being aggressive or mean though. Glad Phantom is doing ok.

  3. Phantom we are so glad you are doing ok. We are so sad that you were attacked and also very sad that the owners are crummy and let it happen. We don't really like the invisible fences - we think real fences are the best idea. Anyway, we are glad the owners are being a little responsible and offering to help with the vet bills. But we just wish it hadn't happened in the first place. We are still sending you lots of purrs and throwing in a few to see if they can get you that steak!

That's the cutest hula-weenie card, ever!

  5. At least the owner of the other dog seems repentant - wonder if he remembered to put oh his dog's collar today at least? I'm finding that pepper spary is fairly difficult to come across these days. I have bear spray (from our trip out west this spring), but that's kind of overkill. I've heard that army/navy supply stores or artillery ranges may carry it, going to try there next.

Glad Phantom is on the mend and hopefully will not have any "baggage" about other dogs approaching after being attacked!

  6. Phantom, I'm glad you got steak to help with your ordeal. Make sure your mom follows up with the bad guy and gets her green papers. This happened one time to us when a neighbors dog got out and attacked our Buddy (he died in 2004). It cost us $500 and the neighbor COMPLAINED that we should have gone to a cheaper vet. Yeah, at NIGHT the only vets open are ER vets.

She paid. Mom had to be mean, but she paid.

Mom agrees that these things happen so fast, it's hard to react. A mean dog doesn't really react to a stick, and pepper spray might get your own dog. Let's hope it never happens again.

  7. Phantom, we are so glad you are better. That was a horrible thing to happen to you and we do not like it at all. That owner should pay for your bill. We have a lawyer on hand if you need help!!! (Mom used to work for him...that's the reason..it's not because she gets in trouble...well, she's trouble but not that kind!) We are glad you got steak too. We got all upset when we saw that had happened....whatever you do, don't go that way. We love all of you!!! Love the pictures too!!! Lots of love, Holly and mo

  9. Well, I'm just so glad that Phantom and you are okay. It is decent and only right of the owner to offer to pay the vet bills.
I'd probably spray myself with pepper spray and I find it hard to break up a dog fight. JP can just yell really loud like The Hulk and dogs go flying.

  10. Oh, what a very pretty Wendy! Did Peter Pan ever show up?

And I'm very much glad that you're feeling okay, Phantom. I think sometimes that stuff like that skeers the humans way more than it does us. Still, it's not really fun for anybuddy. (I'm sure glad that owner is gonna give your mom green papers for your V.E.T. bill. Mom and dad had to press charges against the owners of the dog that attacked Brudder Ranger before they'd pay up.)

  14. they make retractable walking sticks you can carry. i keep saying i'm going to get one too for this very reason. we've had loose dogs run up to us here, but they were friendly and usually owner is around. still, i'd prefer NOT to let loki off leash (which is what i do to distract the dog and keep loki from going aggressive... if he has no leash pressure on him, he's actually much better with a loose dog and he tends to handle the dog so it doesn't bother Juno who i'm really worried about. ) i prefer NOT to let either dog off leash around a loose unknown dog but under intense circumstances it's a must for me.

i'm so sorry this happened to phantom. glad he's ok.

    ReplyDelete
  15. We wish we were there to help. Those wild dogs scare us. Mom gets so mad when the owners always say, Don't worry, he's friendly. Momma carries a taser in her pocket. Don't worry it's allowed. Feel better Phantom

  23. Oh, the idea with the invisible fences is that after awhile the dog will be "trained" not to go out of the yard. It doesn't work on most dogs and Border Collies are notorious for figuring out that if the collar doesn't beep (because the batteries are dead) it is safe to go through the fence.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's good the man has offered to pay. It still doesn't make everything all right until he does something permanent to keep his dog in his yard. But at least he sounds somewhat responsible, so that's a good sign.

When my mom sees a dog coming, she always picks me up since I'm little. I guess we'd both get attacked then...oh well. Your situation is a good reminder for us to carry our pepper spray. You're right though that it's hard to always be prepared. Yelling and showing authority like your mom did is a good weapon in the meantime.

  30. I'm glad that Phantom is bouncing back like a Champ! I bet that the steak helped!

I carry pepper spray, mostly for wild animals, but I remind myself that I have it when we run into a sticky dog situation. I always keep two things in mind - it would be tough to spray only the offending dog. My dogs would probably get some in their faces too - but that would be better than being badly injured by an attacking dog. The second thing is it can permanently damage eyes if sprayed directly into them... So I always plan to try to avoid that. Oh, and one more thing, keep in mind the wind so it doesn't end up in your own face!

For your sake, I hope it never happens again. And, I hope that the green papers appear. K was once attacked, and the people never produced the money. Our dog trainer, who was present at the time of the attack, stepped up to pay for it.

Tell your mommy that our mommy clips the pepper spray on to her waist pack so its ready as soon as she needs it cause if another dog wants to be mean our mommy has to control both of us and then worry about the other dog too so pepper spray is what works so far, used it twice. "Wendy" is just charmingly and beguilingly beautiful - hope she finds Peter! Most of all... love your "don't give up" attitude. I think pepper spray can be weird, especially if you miss and get your own dogs or heavens... yourself. Maybe that's why I don't even carry the stuff on those Sierra trails even tho we have it. I'm still muttering curses at the owner of the aggressor dog - my sis-in-law installed an invisible fence several years ago to contain their three labs. (She's an interior designer and I'm sure it was a high end one) and a month later, had it taken out due to failure to keep doggies in. Arggghhh. Hope your vet bills do get paid. 69. Oh Phantom - I'm glad you're feeling much better! Hsin-Yi says she knows what your human means about things happening too fast to react - and yeah, it's hard to carry a stick and wield it properly when you need to - even when you have one dog - if things start to go crazy! Things like pepper spray are illegal here anyway. We just try to be very careful and learn which streets to avoid and make a wide detour around certain houses...but even with the best precautions, you can be surprised sometimes! That's why my humans prefer to drive me to a park or somewhere safe to walk (eg. college campus) rather than in the streets around our house.

  72. The problem with pepper spray is you might spray your own dog in all the turmoil. What we do is carry an umbrella. You can loop the handle around your arm. If a dog runs toward you, aim it at him and hit the little button. The umbrella flies open and startles the dog. Best to practice around the house first so your dogs don't panic.
