Update on TD
It isn't much of an update. We are in a waiting pattern. Physical exam shows nothing obviously wrong with me except for some tacky gums, indicating a bit of dehydration. Temp is normal, teeth are good, tummy feels normal, heart rate is good, heart and lungs sound good.
Mom has been trying to get me to lose weight for a long time. Finally I had lost about five pounds from late March to the first week of June. But since then I have lost another 4.5 pounds, and 1.2 of those were since Monday. The vet isn't too concerned since I haven't really been eating much, but it is still something to consider.
I got stuck with the needle three times. One time on my left shoulder side to draw some blood for a full blood panel. Another one on the right side to give me some Cerenia for possible nausea. And one more with a BIG needle on the top to give me some sub-q fluids. You might be able to see the big bump in this picture where all that fluid is sitting.
The vet does not think the food is part of the issue at all. She is hoping it is just a touch of pancreatitis even though I am not exhibiting classic symptoms. For now I am going to get some chicken and rice or boiled hamburg and rice to see if I will eat it. And if I do, then gradually Mom is going to try to slip in a bit of my kibble. Right now I just walk away from about four different kinds of new kibble.
The blood results should be back tomorrow. So we are all hoping for me to start eating and for the report to show nothing significantly wrong.
This is what I have been doing all day until I had to go to the vet. Now it is time for me to rest again. But before I do, I want to thank you all for the good thoughts you left me.

Pee S. - A dog that my family owned before I came on the scene stopped eating once too. She had x-rays, and the result was that she had eaten something like tissue.
So, maybe an x-ray could help pinpoint your tummy trouble too :)
You poor sweet dear! Maybe it's just a really bad virus that will clear soon and you'll be back to yourself. Sending gentle ear rubs and back scratches to help you feel better.
ReplyDeleteNanina and Poppy

ReplyDeleteWyatt
You are in our prayers and we send best wishes to you for a very quick Get Well!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
We are sending you lots of White Dog positive energy, our friend! It does sound like pancreatitis... Quinn had the chronic kind and never showed any symptoms and Nuka just recently had the accute kind where she is still trying to regain weight. Nibble at least a little bit, Nuka liked the sweet potato stars from Wet Noses and that is all she would eat for days and days. The important thing is to stay hydrated (maybe try ensure or plain chicken broth for nourishment, Nuka did that, too). Momster is doing a great job, you are one lucky boy. The WDA sends strength to your humans to stay calm, as hard as it is for two-leggeds.
ReplyDeletePaws crossed, Thunder!
ReplyDeleteThunder...feel better real soon! We hope the vet has some answers for Mom that can easily be remedied and have you back to yourself in no time We're starting a #pawcircle of prayer and healing for you over on our Facebook page & Twitter so that all the furpals in the world can send you their positive vibes so you can get well quick! Hugs to you and Mom.

ReplyDeleteOne thing that has been a Godsend at our house this week is Pro Bloom by The Honest Kitchen. If you can find it, it has really motivated all of us to eat this week.

ReplyDeleteBart, Ruby and Otto
Sending lots of prayers for you my good friend! Our parents always freak out when one of us doesn't eat too, especially after what happened with me and my kidneys and, of course, Holly. We sure hope it's just something minor like a tummy bug.
