Lightning keeps asking, "Are they done YET, Mom?
He is not happy with all these intruders in his house.
Phantom has his eye on some new carpeting and would love to try it out.
Here is a shot of the family room with part of the new carpeting installed along with a few leaves:) The old carpet was more or less an oyster white. Many of you wondered why we had to get new carpets. That white one was about 13 years old and had worn well. But it was time to replace it as it was no longer cleaning well and was worn in many areas. The new carpet is called "white oak" but has a bit more a a cream tint to it. Mom and Dad go for the lighter colors because they don't show all our white furs so much:)
We have a few pics to share of the work that is done. There are still a few small items to finish, but all should be done by Monday, except for all the cleaning Mom has to do then.
Ahhh, it is thick and soft and feels great on our tushies and paws.
This is all that is left of the old furniture in this part of the room.
And here is the view of the other end of the room. This furniture is enjoying its last week here. New furniture for all areas of this room is arriving next week. All of the first floor has new wall paint and new trim. The color is darker than it was before but still a light and soft beige. Oh, that stuff on the floor - that's some of Mom's exercise tools - for her back. We hate to tell her, but we don't think it is helping much.
The living room - new carpet and new trim paint. The walls were wallpapered a couple of years ago.
Same for the dining room, freshly painted trim, wall paper from a couple of years ago, and new carpet. All of the carpeting on the first floor is the same color. Excuse the window dressings. The workers didn't do a very good job of reinstalling them, but Mom has a cleaning company coming next week to clean them and have them hanging properly.
New carpeting on the staircase.
Here is a close-up view.
New tile for the first floor bathroom. The walls in there are going to be faux painted on Monday - a really pretty color called "interesting aqua".
Mom's new vacuum. She has two purple Dysons, one for the first floor and one for the second floor. The carpet installer asked her if he could borrow her vacuum to clean up all the little threads from the installation. Guess what? The carpet is too thick for Mr. Dyson. It is almost impossible to push it across the carpet. Although the installer could do it with lots of pushing, Mom couldn't budge it at all. So the hunt was on for something that would work. This new Oreck Magnesium RS only weighs 7 lbs. and it works very well.
On to the kitchen.
One section of counter and backsplash - before the grout and sealing had been done.
The bar sink.
Close-up of the tile work.
Kitchen sink. The sinks are very deep and the faucet is high - Mom loves it. In the background there, that is Phantom's breakfast, still waiting for him to eat at noon:(
What do you think of our fancy floor here in the kitchen?
New style - cardboard and duct tape:)
The week the floors were sanded and refinished AND the week after, we had lots and lots of rain. The floor guys said it would be best to cover the floors for at least a week so they could "cure". With all the traffic of more workers coming and going all day long, this was a great way to protect the floors. We have to wait a few more weeks before we can put the area rug under the kitchen table and the scatter rugs around the sink and cooking area, so we may be living with this fancy floor for a bit longer. Maybe we can start a new trend.
So are you wondering how happy we all are to be back at home to stay???
Easy to tell how Ciara feels:)
Lightning hasn't quite decided if the coast is clear.
And Phantom - well, he is just happy to be home, sweet home finally.
Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
Everything looks so beautiful.

That looks gorgeous! I'm so jealous of the light carpeting! That would never work in our house but it totally makes sense in your with the fur! My parents gave us a couch last week, it's cream. It's covered with a sheet, permanently!

ReplyDeleteWow, that's like living in a new house. Everything is so new and clean except for those pesky leaves. We bring them in with us, too.
ReplyDeleteOur Mom likes the tile especially. She likes what she calls the slate look and wants to do it in our basement.
She also like the cardboard and duct tape flooring. Says it can just be swept with a broom to get rid of doggy hairs. Now she wants to do that all over our house. Look what you've started.

ReplyDeleteWell, guys what a life of Riley you live with such a beautiful house.
Thankfully you don't live with Devon dirt :-) OR we would be seeing red paws everywhere.......... Mum, your amazing at keeping stuff so white :-) x x x Paws.. your great for being so cool about it :-) X
Love, love, love it all!!! The carpet, the tile, the kitchen counter the backsplash,,,WOW. it's just all so modern and pretty. Just great. I know you are glad to be Home, sweet, Home!!!
ReplyDeleteDon't throw your back our trying to push that vacuum. haha
Wow, wow, and wow. I especially love your kitchen. Gorgeous counters and wonderful sinks!
ReplyDeleteI bet the dogs will adore those new carpets - so plush and soft!
We choose our furnishings based on our dogs' fur color too! We have always had dark Labs so we tend to buy dark stuff. Then, we had a few years when we had a yellow lab (an adoption emergency so we stepped up). That was tough! No color worked then! (but he was such a sweetie that we didn't mind!).
I'm glad that all three dogs are "home, sweet home".
Exquisite! The whole thing is. Your formal livingroom is lovely, the kitchen is wonderful, one thing I especially love is the patterned carpet on the stairway! You just did a bang up job choosing and I hope your back perks up so that you can enjoy it all.
ReplyDeleteCheers and hugs all around, esp Mr. Phantom!
Jo, Stella and Zkhat
So beautiful. You all must be so happy that everything is finishing up. We love it!

ReplyDeleteYou guys busy redecorating. Your wall paint (shade of yellow) is likes ours. We can't have carpeting our house due to allergies (but got few floor rugs). Beautiful makeover and Golden Thanks for sharing. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
ReplyDeleteWow, all the great changes going on at your home! Things are looking great and I'm sure everyone's tush will be very comfy on the new carpet! (Riley loves loves carpet and hates to try to sit on the hardwood) Home sweet home indeed!!
ReplyDeleteKaren and Riley
It all looks so beautiful! That's so smart to have the white carpets instead of darker colors. My genius humans bought a dark grey sofa. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I love the cardboard and duct tape look. Your mom should just keep it that way.
We sure wish your mom's back would feel better.
Mrs. Master says at least it wipes well with a damp cloth.
Nora
