First, a followup on what we are going to do about me, Ciara, and my seizure meds. The neurologist does not believe we have a strong enough history for how frequent my seizures will be. I had several during December and January, a couple at the very beginning of the seizure med study, and then nothing until this week. That long stretch was interspersed with some time on meds (maybe real maybe placebo), real meds, and no meds. His preference is that I continue off all seizure meds for a while longer to see if the seizures really are going to be frequent enough to demand medication. He believes I am too young to go on the meds because of the many side effects and the likelihood of having to increase the meds with time. On the other hand, he said I CAN go back on the Keppra now, but it may not be necessary. Mom got the impression that having me on Keppra is more of a calming for the Mom and Dad than a necessity for me at this point. So it looks like at least for the immediate future, I won't have to take those big pink pills.
Now I have a new problem. You see this sweet little girl and I have a very special friendship. I think she is by BHFF (Best Human Friend Forever).
She loves to sit on my Phantom's bed (even sleep on it) and talk to me.
But this is her last day with us for a while because school starts on Monday.
I sure am going to miss her.
Hope you enjoy our fun photoshoot!
She likes to copy me all the time.
And it is fun to cross her human paw with mine.
Isn't she just the cutest???
Copy cat, copy cat!!!
She is so nice to me that I let her share my hidey spot too.
She has such a pretty smile!!!
I sure am going to miss my sweet "C".
Mom, let me out - I might have to have Lightning stand in as my pal. AND exactly when does school get out again?
Woos - Ciara and "C"
Awe, so sweet! We have one more week with our humans sisters, then they start school. We know how you feel!
ReplyDeleteI hope those nasty seizures stay away!! And you BHFF is very cute and I see why you're going to miss her! I guess that means she'll have all kinds of news to tell you when she sees you on weekends!!
ReplyDeleteMom Kim here - I was wondering about that med regimen and the seizures. Maybe stopping the med, even tho it was gradual, is what brought on ths most recent seizure and maybe now, that Ciara's body has gotten over that initial reaction just maybe won't have any more - which would be great!
ReplyDeleteMany of the schools around here started up this week - a couple start next week. Poor Ciara - so much adjusting and now your BHFF is going back to school - just remember you will still see your sweet "C" - just not as often but from the looks of things - bet she will miss you too!
Mom Kim
We hope the wise Vet guides you through this easily sweet Ciara. Your BHFF is sure a cutie!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry, there are holiday vacations and maybe with luck you can play together in snow.
ReplyDeleteWe just love your sweet smiley Ciara...and we know that your BHFF C will stop over all the time to see you!!

Sorry your best friend has to go to school. We know you'll miss her.
ReplyDeleteWe hope you don't have any seizures for a really long time and preferably never again Ciara! Little "C" is a cutie and we bet she's going to miss you too when she has to go back to school. Hope she can come visit often!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet sweet post, with Ciara and her best friend. I hope that C can come over lots and lots during the school year, sweet Ciara.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the seizures stay away. A long time ago (mid-90's), we had a dog who had a number of grand mal seizures within a couple of months. Back then, the philosophy was that each seizure made having another one more likely so the vets felt very strongly that he needed to be medicated. Then, when he didn't have any grand mal seizures for a few years, we weaned him off the meds. He continued to have petit mal seizures (no more grand mals though) throughout his lifetime but they weren't a big deal... I'm guessing that the vet philosophy toward seizures has changed a lot based on your post.
In any case, I just want sweet Ciara to be seizure-free and as healthy as possible!
Howdy Woos. Aw your photos gave us our first smile of the weekend. Your little peep is so cute. Can't she hide somewhere with you Ciara?? Hope you've seen the last of the SM too. Take care all. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about those nasty S words!

They're both beautiful and adorable!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad your vet is being conservative about giving medicines. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that C will do well enough without them.

Sorry your girl has to go to class. But, kids and puppies need school.
ReplyDeleteToo bad there is not a school for kids and puppies to learn together.
Hmmmm....

Quinn was able to avoid seizure meds for a long time...there is the argument that avoiding as long as possible keeps the dosing smaller and more effective when they do become necessary. Have you discussed the idea of gabapenten with you vet? That was Quinn's first seizure med before he moved up to Keppra which was nearly 18 months later.
ReplyDeleteThe two C's are precious together. We hope that the holidays bring them back together for more fun.
We so which ever way it goes meds or no meds that a solution is found for Clara. We have our paws tightly crossed. As for sweet pretty little C we are sorry Clara that your BHFF is going back to school. Roll on the holidays again.
ReplyDeleteHave a super Saturday.
Best wishes Molly
We think it's wonderful that you have a BHFF, Ciara, and she sure is a pretty one!
