Lightning has been enjoying some Stella and Chewy's Chicken Patties as toppers for his regular kibble. We have come to the end of his 30 day Chewy Challenge with this new food from Chewy.com.
As we told you in our first post, these grain-free chicken patties are made with raw, farm-raised cage-free chicken. The all-natural meal contains no added hormones or antibiotics, just easily digested ingredients dogs are sure to love.
You can soak the patties in warm water to make them softer. But this does take some tim.e
Mom discovered that the easier way is to crumble the patties first and then add warm water. Of course, you can also serve them dry as crumbled toppings. Lightning preferred them moistened.
Overall Mom was happy with this food and Lightning loved it. It is very easy to prepare, has very little odor (as compared to some of the canned food we like to eat), and would be very easy to take along on a trip. We even let Ciara have some of the chicken patties and she loved it too. Another plus was a noticeable decrease in the size of Lightning's "output". He IS a big boy and tends to have large movements, but with these patties, they appeared to be firmer and smaller.
As noted on the Chewy.com site, the key benefits of the patties are:
- Suitable for all stages of life
- Taurine protects the heart
- Grain-free & Gluten-free formula reduces allergic reactions
- Beets maximize nutrient absorption
- Contains chelated and non chelated trace minerals that improve mineral availability and help support your pets health
- With additional vitamins and minerals in order to meet and exceed the AAFCO requirements
- Freeze-dried to lock in nutrition and flavor
- Made in the USA!
So as you can see, there are a lot of advantages to using Stella & Chewy's freeze-dried patties which come in a variety of flavors. We had the chicken, but there are also beef, lamb, duck, and surf & turf versions.
We were satisfied enough with this food to place an order for some more. The one negative for us is the cost. For a dog the size of Lightning, it would be out of the question to feed it exclusively. It would require him to have 13 or more patties a day. The bag we received free of charge from Chewy.com in exchange for an honest review is on sale now for about $40. Mom counted approximately 54 patties in the bag so Lightning would consume a 25 oz. bag in about 4 days. That is way out of our budget. BUT we are going to continue to use it as a topper for our regular kibble, reducing the amount of kibble accordingly.
From the pups' point of view, Ciara and Lightning give this product 8 paws up - super delicious!!!
Mom gives it 5 stars for quality and easy use and 3 for price.
