We have received a number of emails about the big fire in OP and concern for us. We are fine, but we are pretty close to the fire. The fire has consumed a brand new large apartment/office complex about four miles north of us under construction for the past 2-3 years and just ready to begin leasing units. In addition at least 12 homes within two miles of the fire have caught on fire from heat radiation and/or flying embers.
As you can see, we are safely tucked away in our home. There is quite a bit of smoky smell outside. One of the apartment structures is still burning three hours after the fire began. The good news is that only one injury has been reported so far, and it is minor injuries to a firefighter. Over 50 fire companies are here from all over the area, some from as far away as 50 miles. Because there is some wind in the area, there is still a risk of flying embers, but we are pretty sure we are far enough away. If you want to see more about the fire, you can see it HERE, our local NBC TV affiliate.
Thanks to all who thought about us. Please keep all those affected by the fire in your thoughts and prayers. It is wonderful that it doesn't appear that there were any serious injuries but there is a huge loss of property.

Fires can be very scary things but we are glad to hear you are both safe and sound at your home. We send our prayers in the hope the fire is put out quickly. Milo & Jet
ReplyDeleteOMD....We didn't hear about this down here in Florida. I'm so glad you're safe. Fires are scary. We've been having large brush fires down here that destroyed a few homes in the Naples area. One fire burned almost 8,000 acres and was just contained a couple of days ago. The fires aren't that close to us but we have a bad smoky smell here too so we know what you're going through.
ReplyDeleteStay safe!

I'm so glad that you're okay. We had a nearby fire too. However, the wind was blowing it away from us so we, personally, were okay. There are always losses though.

ReplyDeleteOh my sweet Woos thank you for the update.
ReplyDeleteThis is just so sad...and we know exactly how you feel. Just about a week ago we had a huge fire in downtown Raleigh at a 50 million dollar apartment complex and multi purpose bldg that was also under construction. It was built in the new 'style' of building, that of course is cheaper, it is called pedestal building. Foundation concrete. The remaining building all lumber
just a tinderbox waiting for a fire. Evidently this new style is all the rage all over the USA...sounds like building codes need to be addresse
Many purrs for all affected.
Hugs madi your bffff

We are certainly glad that you aren't any closer. What a huge fire. We're used to hearing about bushfires, but that sounds quite scary. Lots of buildings. Good news that there weren't many injuries, and most of those are minor. Stay tucked up out of the smoke.
