Whatcha doing under there, Timber?
Nothing, Mom - just resting.
Are you sure you aren't up to some mischief?
Why would you think that, Mom?
Hmmmm, what are you watching, Timber?
I am keeping my eye on that Misty.
I think she wants to steal MY toy.
Well, no, it is not just YOUR toy. It is everyone's toy, and that toy was here before you were.
No worries, Mom. I don't want the toy. I just want Timber to play WITH me and the toy - you know, a good game of tug.
So you want me to think about what Misty said???
OK, I will do some puppy thinking, but please don't take my our toy away.
Woos - Timber and Misty
Note from Mom - Timber has decided that there are four toys here that he has to have sole possession of. I have been working on the toy guarding, monitoring closely his behavior with these particular toys. I have to take them away and only let him have them when I can be there and encourage better behavior. Misty really doesn't want the toy, she just wants her buddy to play with her. Any suggestions are more than welcome.
Oh dear me...Timber...remember you are low little man on the totem pole.
ReplyDeleteYou are the newbie and must learn your pecking order.
Gosh Kathie I don't have a clue what to do. Sounds like what you are doing by monitoring the play and rewarding good behavior will eventually work.
Timber's look in that last picture is saying I double dog dare you to try to get my toy Misty.
Does he have the same behavior with Lightning?
Hugs and much luck
Cecilia.
PS I think I have come up with a good solution to keep the sciatica happy once round is over. Pop over tomorrow for the rest of the story
Gosh I don't have an answer to that. I had three dogs most of the time and I don't think I ever had that problem. I think what you are doing is just the right thing. Does Timber do that when all three have their own toys? Timber just needs to learn to share which is hard to teach. Anyway good luck.
ReplyDeleteI think you are doing fine. Sometimes dogs do have to work these things out on their own but it is easy for me because I have little dogs who are easier to separate if they start to snap at one another. Foley used to take Pocket's favorite ball and sit on it so she could not play catch with it.
ReplyDeleteWhen you're the youngest, you have to guard your toys. We were looking at the chair legs. We would have loved that wood to chew on.
ReplyDeleteWow, you guys look so wonderful! Nice to see you. Luckily, I'm an only dog, so I don't have to share. Sometimes my peeps want to play with my toys...and I let them so they won't cry. BWAR HAR HAR
ReplyDeleteMaybe if Timber sees Misty and Lightning playing tug of war, he'll get the idea. BTW, love your header and background...welcome Fall.

Timber buddy, just remember that toys are so much more fun when you can play with them WITH your siblings or momma!
ReplyDeleteYou are guardie like I am, Timber. Mom tells me that it's more fun when you share and I have to think long and hard about it too. You're a pretty smart pup!
ReplyDeleteWe have to share too but usually it's the bed or something like that. Maybe try giving the toy he has to Misty and then giving Timber a different one so he sees that it's okay if he doesn't have one particular toy at a given moment since there's another one he can play with. But then again, what do we know, we're cats!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure all of you together will help Timber figure out the rules!
ReplyDeleteOh dude, I can see why you wants that toy,...it's PAWSOME! Nows, bein' an only puppers, I gots no advice, since I gets sole possession of ALL the toys! they are MINE MINE MINE! BOL!!! okays, that doesn't help at all. Wells, sounds like you gots the right idea ~ it's truly funny to see Misty as the 'grown up' now!
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Ruby ♥
Those are very cute photos. Timber is a cutie, and Misty looks so big compared to him.
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid that I've never met the "resource guarding" issue before. I can read up on it at my favorite training sites if you'd like. I bet there's a way to deal with it (nip it in the bud!).
Mabel thinks all toys are hers but Hazel just lets her have them. Wish we had some good advice for you

Hmmm . . . sorry but we have no suggestions. me and Stanley pass toys and antlers back and forth all the time.
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
I'm with timber, there are toys that are just for me... not even the mama can have them ;o)
ReplyDeleteSorry can't help but am sure you will figure it out. We share here - I am lucky!
ReplyDeleteWe have always only had one dog so I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Hopefully, it is just all part of the adjustment process and will work out on its own.
ReplyDeleteTimber does have such a cute mischievous look in his eyes!
We are no help at all, once Maggie hit our doorway my life has been changed forever, stealing my toys, stealing my playtime wif dad, hers is just a really bully sometimes. I toles mom time and time again military school was the way to go wif her but mom did not listen. stellie rose
ReplyDeleteNone of our other dogs were interested in toys. Miss Ginger hoarded them when she was a pup, but when she grew up, she didn't want them. Joey would nibble on them once in a while. But Chester … he owns the toys!
ReplyDeletethose expressions on Timber's face are just priceless! Since I am a one dog household, I don't have an answer but I am sure others do! DakotasDen
ReplyDeleteSorry I no help I destroy all my toys.
ReplyDeleteCheap ones is all i ever get.

OMP! I think Timber is just trying to establish himself in the pack . And since he is the smallest, he wants everything his way (I can relate). But you are Mama Woo, so your natural instincts of what to do will be right! Good luck! RosyPoodleKisses!
ReplyDeleteAround here, Jakey gets all the toys...and destroys them. :-)

Sydney is the only one who doesn't share nicely and we know she has other problems. We watch her closely and make sure no one gets too close to her toys.
