Well, it's another problem for Lightning. Mom says he just can't catch a break. We will let Lightning tell you what happened.
Yesterday I was out with Mom taking care of business. I don't walk "properly" on either of my back legs. When we came inside, Mom caught me licking the paw on my "better of the two" legs, and there were several spots of blood on the floor. Upon closer examination, she saw that two of my nails were broken all the way to the quick. She thinks I must have turned my foot under on the sidewalk and snapped the two nails. My nails were just trimmed a week ago.
So off to the vet I went. I had to spend the night because the vet thought he might have to sedate me to do his work. I was a good boy and no sedation was needed. But we have torrential rain here in OP. When Mom picked me up this morning, I came out to her not only with the dreaded cone, BUT I also had a trash bag wrapped around my foot to keep the bandage dry. Well, that trash bag lasted less than 45 seconds and was totally off before we even got to the car.
As you can see, I am happy to be home despite another problem. Now we have to figure out how to keep my bandage dry while we get through the next umpteen days of predicted rain. Actually I only have to wear the bandage for up to two days. Mom is also hoping that my dear siblings don't try to help me remove that bandage. Then, on top of everything else, Mom and Dad are going away for the long Memorial Day weekend, and I, along with Misty and Timber, will be off to camp. Mom is already stressing about me, but she also knows I will be OK because we always stay at a boarding kennel that is part of a veterinary clinic, not ours, but still a good one.
We probably won't be around much until next week. Send along all the POTP you can muster for me. It always helps to have support from my friends.
Woos - Lightning (Misty and Timber)
So we guess we can be happy that Lightning is home and will be fine in a few days!!!
Oh Lightning! You could TRY keeping things a little less exciting for your momma!
ReplyDeleteWe have our paws crossed tight for you Lightning and hope you have a good stay at the kennel too.
ReplyDeleteLightning my darlin' brave Woofriend. Powerful purrs coming your way. You have the sweetest face and look happy in spite of the vet prescribing all that pesky plastic equipment.
ReplyDeleteI can imagine how your toes feel because I have done something similar to my pinkie toe several times and once I had toe surgery on both big toes.
Every time my heart beat my toes HURT
Hugs and safe travels to the peeps

Poor baby. What a trying time you're having, your mom is having and all of us that love you are having. I hope you heal up quickly.
ReplyDeleteTons of doggy kisses and prayers. My best to your mom. ♥
Oh dear, poor Lightening, that is such bad luck. Gail and I are lobbing another huge dose of POTP across the Pond.
ReplyDeleteToodle pip!
Bertie.
Oh noes!!!!! Okay, let Ma tell you what she did when her Angel Annie had this happened to her, it might work for you.
ReplyDeleteOnce you have your bandage dry, have your Moms put an child's sock over it, and tape the top so it doesn't fall down. Next, gets yourself some Glad Press n'Seal wrap ~ have your Mom wrap your bandage with it before you go out. What Ma did, was lay it out (enough to wrap around your bandage) on your counter, then lay another piece on top of that (maybe another depending), then put your paw in the middle and wrap around. Then just peel off when you come in. It might work for you too. Ma found it the easiest way to keep the paw dry.
Hopes you gets out of that cone my pal, and feel lots better soon!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
You poor dog! At least you are smiling. Thinking of you and the Momster.
ReplyDelete24 Paws Crossed!

Constant dreary weather--though we're a bit envious of that--the dreaded cone and worry. Misty and Timber should get to work bringing smiles back to your house. Paws crossed it'll only be two days.

I know that in spite of the misfortunes you've had, you feel loved and well taken care of and THAT's the important thing. I'm sure you will be just fine at the vet's kennel while you humans are away - just REST and before you know it, no more toe bandage or cone!! TAKE IT EASY MY FRIEND! I'm sending you a ton of POTP.

Sending you every POTP vibe that we can muster, Lightning. I emailed your mom a bandage cover suggestion. I hope that it helps.
ReplyDeleteOh poor Lightning ☹️. When I broke my toe and had a splint for 12 weeks, mom would put the plastic bag on my bandaged split with duct tape or tied with a ribbon, for my walks in the wet weather. It worked well with supervision. All the best for a speedy recovery.
ReplyDeleteOh poor thing, Lighting!! Looks like Ruby's Ma has a great suggestion. Hope your speedy recovery.
ReplyDeletePinot xo
We are of course late to read this but we hope that all is getting better with your foot Lightning! We know how much your mom must worry when she is gone but it sounds like you are spending the holiday weekend in a good place that can keep a good eye on you!
ReplyDeleteKiki and her mom

Charlee: "Right! But we still send purrs!"
We came to check on you Lightning.
ReplyDeleteHope your toes nails are better now.
Time to work on the crazy legs healing.
