It's me, Timber!!! And today is my birthday.
I AM SIX!!!
My vet says I am the happiest dog he has ever met!!! Mom says I am the sweetest boy she has ever had!!! I SAY, thank you, everyone - now let's celebrate with lots of treats. And, yes, I will share with Lightning and Misty (Mom will have to be sure she only gets her prescription cookies).
We haven't posted for a bit because our secretary has been bummed out. The misery of sick pups really gets her down, especially when it doesn't seem like any progress is being made. Misty is still not showing any improvement even though she is getting really good care. Our vet has consulted with a couple of different specialists, who are totally baffled by Misty's lack of improvement. And the newest thing is that she is losing weight despite a very hearty appetite. She is now going to have some testing done to see if her body is properly absorbing protein in her blood. At first we thought the weight loss might be due to the drastic change in her diet to an all-prescription formula and nothing else to eat. But despite increasing her intake, she is dropping weight each month. The blood in her stool continues daily, she can't hold her urine overnight most nights, and she just doesn't have the energy level of a dog of only seven years. Mom is at her wit's end. To make matters even more complicated, I, Timber, have been "off" for a few weeks with vomiting and diarrhea. I have had a history of stomach issues since I was a pup, and now the vet thinks I may have something very similar to Misty. We have the same Mom and Dad but are from separate litters. Maybe this is something genetic. And poor Lightning, he is just plain getting old. His back knees and hips are very arthritic. so he too is getting meds to help his pain and mobility. The vet doesn't want him to become a couch potato and wants Mom to keep him moving. Lightning doesn't like to go very far on his walks, but Mom keeps trying. What is this about a couch potato??? We never get to go on the couch???
Not the happiest of tales, right? But we just keep moving along and taking each day as it comes. As for me, I am going to live up to my reputation as a "happy boy" and enjoy my day.
