Today our newest Angel celebrates his 13th birthday. We hope he is enjoying his first day as a teenager with all his Angel family and friends.
We would like to share with you a trip down Memory Lane through all the years of Lightning's birthdays. We will let the photos do most of the talking. We are deeply indebted to Ann of Zoolatry for all but two of these creations. She has been our dear friend for so many years, and we are delighted to have her beautiful creations to help us celebrate through our tears of sadness.

And now we have reached the end of Memory Lane with one last BIG wish for a very Happy 13th Birthday, Lightning.

Lightning, we all miss you so much. Dinner time just isn't the same without your piercing woo urging Mom to get on the stick. There is that empty spot under the coffee table. And we keep wanting to grab three treats at bedtime. Your leash and collar still hang on the hook. And most of all, we just wish you were still here in the furs. But you will be in our hearts always and forever. Happy birthday to our Gentle Giant.

I agree with the comments above. This is really a beautiful post and such a fitting and perfect tribute to Lightning, who's life was so full and well lived. I know how much he is missed, and as you said in your e-mail, the losses do get harder. I agree. I think it has to do with dog's like Lightning being with us for so many years, and being so embedded in the fabric of our lives, that at some point, the years all melt together, and you cannot remember what it was like when they weren't here... I know its been that way for me, and I know it is for you too. And I hope that the strength of the love that you and Lightning have, brings you peace and comfort. ❤❤
