Scheming on Saturday

The Momster thinks she can outwit us.

Notice anything different in this photo above?

Somebody found a way to keep her hostas and shrubs safe from sibes. Maybe if Ciara keeps her eyes closed, that new fencing will magically disappear.

Mom, is this a test to see if I really am an obedient pup or a true sibe who knows no rules? You do realize how easy it would be for me to clear this measly barricade, don't you?

Now who would have suspected that the first party to enter the restricted zone would be Phantom!!!

Hey, she left an opening here for me so I wouldn't have to exert myself and jump over it.

For now we are being distracted from the no-sibe zone by all the other interesting things in our environment. Maybe we will just let her think we are behaving, you know, sort of lull into her thinking she has won. Then when she least expects it, we will invade that zone.

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara - and yes, we can hear the Herd's hu-Dad chuckling all the way from here:)

Note from Mom: I found this fencing at Lowe's and it is attractive, not terribly expensive, and just might give the plants a chance to grow. Am I dreaming? Maybe, but it is worth a try. So far none of them has tried to get in the section that is completely enclosed. The only reason Phantom has an exit on that side is because I bought all the fence sections available at the two closest Lowe's and need to make a longer trip to get some more. As you may have noticed, I still haven't taken off the price labels - just in case I don't win this one:)

  6. Oh, humans. They're always trying to outwit us and they just don't learn.

  7. We tried putting fencing around the new plants and learned that Bailey takes that as a challenge. If she sees fencing, then she works at getting onto the other side. It's better for us to just try distracting her.

    Good luck!

  8. No, no, the hu-dad is not chuckling. More like laughing really hard. Of course,we have removed screen doors that were in our way.

  9. Does Ciara look like she's happy with that fence? No, I don't think she likes it. I think they're waiting for you to turn your back and then they'll scoot around the end there.
Hey, nice try though!!! I girl has to try to protect her flowers.

  10. BOL, as your furpal, I hope the 3 of you manage to get into the restricted area!

But A hopes that your Momster's plants don't get murdered. Hehehehehe. Oh, and A says good luck to the Momster!

  14. Good Luck Mom! we like the fencing, but don't want to bet on the success.

  15. We think Phantom was just trying to keep safe from the Pest by being behind the fencing!! :)

I actually really like the fencing you got...hopefully it will do its purpose and not get jumped over! Bummer about having to go to a Lowe's farther away! Maybe it could be a nice little day trip.

  16. Very timely post! We were at H-Depot this morning looking at the very same fencing...didn't buy it yet, but are testing out pea gravel (too many weeds grow in our yard if we did grass) and a few other items... a definite work in progress...and has been for some time :(
Love your grasses, and no weeds anywhere!!!! Have fun playing pals :)

  21. Hi dearest friends,

We have missed visiting you so much!!! Put today Mommy let us catchup on what all we've missed at your blog.

I just gotta tell you what happened when I got my stitches out today. There was a lady there that had 4 husky puppies in a basket. They was so cute, or so Mommy said. I was too busy playing with the ladies little boy. He sure gave me some good belly rubbing. The pups are all white except for a little one that had black spots on his face. She got to hold him. She said he was a little butterball and felt so soft. I think Mommy wanted to bring him home with us.

Mona didn't get to go today. Just me and Mommy but she sends her love along with Mommy.

  22. Well, it looks nice at least! It'll be interesting to see if it keeps you out of your mom's plants though. At least you still have the rest of the yard to dig in!

  26. I'm laughing... not at Phantom showing you up OR at you trying to outsmart those sibes. You get an A for effort and the fence does llok nice!

    ReplyDelete
  27. That looks very pretty! I was laughing at Ciara and then saw Phantom and burst out in a bigger laugh! I imagine they could get over it if they wanted to but being the good Sibes they are, they won't (I hope!). It is very nice looking! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly

  33. A couple of possibilities here, have Lowes create some 6' tall barriers for you (the black IS very attractive, I think) or two, go back to planting stuffies.

I am more for #2 myself.

  35. If it works, let us know. Then, if they make it in a REALLY tall version, maybe it would work to keep out the deer.

(We're not holding our breath ... besides, we'd have to go to all the Lowe's between here and Kansas!)

Paws crossed. For everybody. Even the hostas deserve a chance.

  38. I'm afraid that even this Lab-mom is chuckling! Good luck!!!!!

I can't remember if I've mentioned this but, when K was a pup, she dug and dug and dug. So, we had a big pile of dirt and wood chips delivered that she was allowed to dig! It worked! However, I must admit that we didn't have anything as tempting to her as that beautiful red mulch and new plants!

    ReplyDelete
  39. LOL! Good luck mom!
You guys really are cooperative with the camera for a group photo each time!
Wish we have a garden, where i could bury my stuffs..!

  44. It looks very nice and we thinks it will work. Phantom was very clever to find the opening.

Fenris respects the baby gate even though he could jump it easily or knock it over like Scylla does. Of course all he has to do it wait cause sooner or later Scylla knocks it over for him. The Mommy was very annoyed to wind up taking a bath with Scylla & Fenris watching.

  45. Good luck Mom! The fencing is pretty, let us to know if it works for you!

  46. Those are very purdy fencing but I'm not sure how they're gonna keep the pupperoonies out of there. I know my River will be able to get in there with no problem. Good luck anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  47. We did that in our back yard too. Toby kept killing everything by peeing on it, so it keeps him away from the shrubs. Works pretty well!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Okay, the FiveSibes are chuckling over here...something about the alleged "no Sibe zone??" I think the fencing and the landscaping looks marvelous...and I wish you luck with the "zoning" efforts...I find it symbolic that it was Phantom (leader of the pack?) who found the way in...will Ciara be next...? Great pics!

    ReplyDelete
  49. We wish the momster luck with the fence. We wonder how long you will make her think she has won the battle this time around. Our hu-grandmom has totally given us and has let us do the landscaping of the garden for her.

The fence is really pretty and has made the garden look good.

  50. Think you have been wishfully thinking this will have any effect :-) Good luck though, personally, I don't like to do the gardening :-) :-) Think my mum is pleased, SHE IS ALSO VERY LUCKY :-)xxx

  51. Forgot to mention, any thing planted could possibly be a weed... and might need to come out anyway... we aren't good at telling the difference.

  52. Well, it is very nice, it was worth a try!
You make me remember a quote from a film, well there is nothing about gardening in the film, it is "Galaxy Quest", but the motto is "Never give up, never surrender"!!! Eh eh eh!!!
PS: my flowers are not going very far either... :( so I do not have much to laugh!!!

  57. hey,

Your mom is sneaky, but us pups are sneakier! ;-> I think you pups will be able to figure out a way to enjoy the plants despite the new barricade. Doesn't "restricted zone" translate to, "where the fun stuff is?" :->

    Suka

p.s. Glad you pups are O.K. after the storms. We got lots and lots of major wind, some rain and thunder, but nothing like others received.

  58. I sure do wish you luck - I haven't found a gate yet that will keep Arwen out (or in, as the case would be).

Imagine trying to stop you from a little digging to aeriate the roots!
We ae not sure about that spelling but never mind we are basets!
Also we find plants thrive from a little canine pruning in just the right places.
Still it wont take long to get rid of that fence - we think your momster has lost her grip on sibe reality there.

  69. We think the fencing is pretty so even if it doesn't keep them out we say keep it. We think that it will at least slow them down a bit! Or you know, confuse them into thinking they can't get in there for a while to at least get the plants started so maybe they are more hardy.

    ReplyDelete
  70. It is a good thing that you posted photos of the freshly pruned shrubs because those photos may be all that's left of the shrubs after a few days or weeks because of your mischievous pups! Hee-hee!
We will keep our fingers crossed that the pups don't cross behind the fence though! Good luck!
