If you haven't read our post from earlier today, go below and read it first so you can feel happy for me at least for a few minutes.
Yep, back in the cone again. I had four hours of freedom. Then Mom left for about 15-20 minutes to pick up the oldest grandbiped. And I just couldn't help myself.
Yep, I got my scratcher going and made a mess.
A closer look.
Mom called the vet to see what they wanted her to do for me. They said it was probably best if she brought me in so they could see what it looked like. So off we went again.
The good news is that I didn't do any real damage, although I did make the area bleed and almost opened a couple of tiny spots on my incision. So the vet says another week of conehead. BUT the Momster says she is not sure a week is going to be enough. She is going to go with her gut next week, like she wishes she had done today. Moms seem to always think they know best. If anypup or human out there has any suggestions, please let me know. I so do not want to spend the next month in this cone:(
Sorry, Mom.

Okay, I be serious now. Your poor mom is gonna goes ka-razy.
I am just glad you didn't really hurt yourself to bad.

I hopes somebuddy can gives you some ideas though. But, if you need to laugh just thinks of having 5 of me...hehehe...you laughing yet?
Puddles
Phantom, at least you had a few hours of freedom from the cone. We know that once you started scratching it probably felt so good you couldn't stop but we hope you don't do that again! We're glad you didn't injure yourself too bad though and are sending snooter smooches to help you heal up again soon!
ReplyDeleteI have some extra wide ACE bandage that might work. Want to try it?
ReplyDeleteOr Puddles the jokester also had a good idea with some booties on those feets.
Ah, Phantom, you might be a sad boy but you are NOT a bad boy, just doing what comes naturally!
Kisses,
Stella
Oh, No! That looks bad!
ReplyDeleteUm, I don't know what you should do. I wish I could help! Now I know why Dawn tells me not to pick at boo boos! Did the Dr. say anything about salt water?
Now that's something of a let down, isn't it? Well, better in that cone than bleeding and getting infected. Yeah, I know. Easy for me to say. I'm not in one at the moment. Still, at least you have a soft one. Other furiends we know are at this very moment trying to get some sleep with a ginormous hard one. See, things can always be worse.
ReplyDeletelotsa healing licks,
Lola and Franklin, too.
Oh dear, hope you get well soon. But for the time being, please bear with the cone. We are sure your Mom knows best.
ReplyDeleteOh dears! :(
ReplyDeletePhantom, why you has to go and do dat? Mom knows best so I guess you will be stuck in dat thing for maybe a couple more weeks. Hang in deres my furiend.

Aww, Phantom! I'm so sorry! So close, and yet so far! You gotta lay off on the scratcher! You don't know your own power!
ReplyDeleteBunny
Oh I bet it felt real good to scratch that itch! BOL
ReplyDeleteBut now you gotta pay the price. Gosh. I hope it was worth it.
Banjo has to wear a shirt every time mom leaves the house so he can't scratch.
Waggles,
Bijou
OH Boy, that's not good! I have been incredibly busy at work but just wanted to check in on Phantom. Tell him I'm sorry, but keeping the cone is for the best! I will try to get to my post tomorrow but maybe I should do the book review first then on Wednesday I will do the PIF. No rush I hope!
ReplyDeletexxoo
Deborah
You didn't! sigh. You did. You can't be scratching or it won't heal.
ReplyDeleteOh no, so sorry to hear this! I was hoping all would be healed by the time I returned. Oh poor puppy, we're going to have to put your paws in mittens. :(

ReplyDeletePoor Phantom. We're so sorry! Please be patient with the cone and get well soon!
ReplyDeleteThor & Mom
Sweet Phantom

Now very soon- like in a couple weeks, the cone will come off.
You be good boy, cause mama knows best.

tweedles
Phantom... that looks nasty! Keep your paws off that hun!
ReplyDeleteOh we have done that lots of times! I've done it, Jada's done it and now our kitteh sister has done it twice. I'm sorry you are stuck in conedom. You know you have my sympathies!
ReplyDeleteWags!
Mr. Nubbin'
Poor Phantom! Unless it's not recommended by your vet, you could try applying a little Neosporin Plus on the incision site. We often recc this at our clinic as it speeds the healing and has a numbing agent that will help stop the itchiness of the healing process. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHey there...
ReplyDeleteSorry you are having such a hard time with Phantom.
There have been times in our household where it's been better to simply bandage up the culprit paw.
My vet here tries to keep the cones off as much as possible - although sometimes it's inevitable. Perhaps try the bandage thingy (under supervision) for a few hours?...but your vet knows best!
Sending lotsaluv and wishes for a really speedy recovery.
MAXMOM IN SA
Oops! I sorry. :) Feel betterer! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a boo-boo you got there. So sorry to hear that you need that cone on again. Wish I had an answer for you, but the only thing I can think of is putting a sock on the foot that scratches. Hopefully it will heal really quick and you'll be able to enjoy your den again.
ReplyDeleteJuno would totally know what to do with that cone: http://www.wilddingo.com/category/mastications/
ReplyDeleteunfortunately she doesn't enjoy flying because she doesn't have enough frequent flyer miles to fly first class, so she can't take care of that cone for you. but she can send lessons to TD and Ciara for you... maybe they'll help you out when they graduate mastications 101.
Oh no... poor little puppy!! I'm going to purr for you LOUD, hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, its for your own go you know, I'm sure it will be off soon
ReplyDeleteSee Yea George xxx
Oh no! At least you were happy in your crate for a little while without that nasty cone, Phantom! Our paws are crossed that you heal quickly and lose this stoopid lampshade!

When yur Mom next takes off yur cone DO NOT SCRATCH YUR FACE - if woo do woo will have to wear that horrible thing for AGES!!!
Stay strong Phantom - DON'T DO IT!!!
Kisses
Summer
xxxx
Oh Phantom - U gotta lern - u scratch then the cone gits bak on. An'we r afraid it iz true - what MOM sez, well that'z what happenz - both of us Beaglebratz haf found that out the hard way.
ReplyDeleteLate again! Glad for the good news, sorry for the bad. think maybe booties might be a good idea. Also, what about one of those new collars that look like airline pillows around your neck. We think you might fit in your crate, and are sure it would help you heal if you feel more secure.
ReplyDeletekisses for the itchies
Teka and Gussie
Sometimes woo just hve to scratch wehere it itches.... sorry your itchies caused woo so much trouble. We have an idea - maybe mom can give woo some cone-fre time each day and put some dog booties on woo so your claws don't come in contact? It's worth a try! Paws crossed fur ya!
ReplyDeletejack a-roo & miss moo
Oh no sweetie that looks so sore. It must itch so much for you to do that.. Please try and leave it alone then the cone can come off.. Hugs GJ xx
ReplyDeleteMr Phantom I am so sorry it got all yuckie again! Keep those paws to yourself buddy :)

ReplyDeleteAnd NOBODY can stay mad at a face like that!
Sonic
PS but stop scratching!
Oh Dear, Oh Dear, OH DEAR, Phantom! We are so sorry about this. I understand that you couldn't help yourself even though you were supposed to. But it has to get better, so chin up, pal!
ReplyDeleteWoofs,
Tommy
Oh Phantom... I am so sad. I missed the happy 4 hours - how I wish that I'd seen the good news before this post.
ReplyDeleteI recently read an article about alternatives to cones. I don't think that any of the options will work for you due to the location of your incision but I'm going to read it again to make sure.
The "cone of evil" just won't go away. I'm thinking of you Phantom.
Oh dear! {i would have done the same thing.} Hope you are cone-free again soon!
ReplyDeleteWe second the idea of Neosporin ointment!!! It does speed the healing. It must double itch because the incision is healing and hair is growing back in. Poor Phantom,,,maybe mom will let you out of your cone for a little while each day. So sorry, from the pack in the holler.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure I would lose my mind if i had to wear that cone for more than about 5 seconds. Seems like cruel and unusual punishment to be going on 3 weeks now... there must be a better way. People don't have to wear cones. I say try any and all suggestions here. Poor Phantom.
ReplyDeleteAww, Phantom, buddy! I'm sure sorry you're in the Cone Zone again!
ReplyDeleteOuch!!! Phantom, why did woo do that fur? Sorry you have to be back in the cone.
ReplyDeleteSam & June
Poor poor Phantom!!!
ReplyDeleteYes I do have a suggestion! Mom can you take the cone off and put in on again?? When Bambi wore the cone I could get it off but not back on. So when I took it off it was just before Tom was coming from work so he could help me get it back on. When Phantom has the cone off you have to be able to watch him at all times. It DOES itch!! It itches and then trouble!!
Bambi was the smae way. When the cone came off she was in her crate!! She loves her crate too!!
When she came out of the crate she was going to scratch!! So if you can take it off and put it back on you can give him some relief!!
XXOO, Fern
Oh, poor Phantom! I feel so bad for you because I know you don't like wearing that stupid cone!
ReplyDeleteI had wondered if maybe you still might scratch. And now we all know you will. I hope that incision heals over quickly so you won't have to wear it anymore.
I know you've got the itchies twice as bad as normal since your incision is healing and you have hair growing back. My recommendation would be neosporin as others have suggested. It really does help quicken the healing.
Sorry about the cone, Phantom. I have my paws crossed for woo so that the incision heals super fast and woo will be out of that cone forever!
ReplyDeleteHero
Our advice next time the cone comes off DO NOT scratch no matter what. K?
ReplyDeleteWe are sorry you are reconed but we has to say we thinks it is for the best. Purrs the stitches heal soon so you can regain your freedom.
AWWWWW....Phantom, that looks nasty. But we hope it is not as bad as it looks.we would have done the same , we know. so don't be guity about it. another week of the cone sounds bad, but it will do you good in the end. Maybe Momster can take it off for sometime during the day like play n meals and walkies while u are under snoopervision. part from that you gotta live with it.
ReplyDeleteSorry about this.
We love your hideout. Looks safe n we take your word for it.
that salazar slitherin guy looks exciting!! But Mumsy would never ever let us get near one. Not that we have met any yet.
Mummy says thanks for liking her handiwork.wish u could come for coffee...errr...milk
wags,
Bud n Gin
PHANTOM! What in dog's name were you thinking?? Oh dear. I didn't read everybuddy's comment but maybe your mom could just wrap your head in a big ol' bandage like they did to Boomer (aka Nubbin). I just don't know. You gots to practice some self restraint if you wanna get outta that thing. (But I bet it felt good to be able to scratch it, huh?)
ReplyDeleteWiggles & Wags,
mayzie
Dog boots would be my best option they do the job and may be a heck of a lot more comfy and happy making for the poor wee fella
ReplyDeletePoor Phantom, you have to try so hard to be good! If you don't you might wear the lampshade forever!
ReplyDeletewoo woos, Tessa
oh my I am so sorry
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, we moved to http://dogisgodinreverse.com/
Oh no! Phantom!!! We feel so bad for you and your mom too. Please keep your paws off and don't scratch the next time the cone comes off! Lots of love, Debbie and Holly
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom, we are so sorry to read this ... we were so happy for you to get the cone off! Hopefully another week is all it takes!
ReplyDeletetake care
Clive and Murray
- we know all about going at things and not leaving things alone in this house - Murray has been pulling his eyelashes and eyebrows out for the past few days! For no apparent reason and we can't get him to stop - he has hardly any eyebrows left at the moment, not a good situation.
Murray's Mom.
Sorry Phantom. All I can suggest is that you come visit me and take a break from your mum!
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom,
ReplyDeleteYou are officially now a Conehead. Sorry!
woof,
Rambo
Aww...Phantom bummer that you back in the cone again. :(

awww, phantom, that totally stinks! only 4 hours of freedom?? i hope your scratchin' booboo heals up really really fast like so you only have to wear the cone for a week, not longer like your mama thinks. pretty please be a good boy when you get that stoopid cone off again!!
ReplyDelete*woof*
the booker man
Just the briefest taste of freedom! You poor thing!
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom, we would not want you to get an infection or for the incision to not heal! Please remember next chance you get that Freedom comes with responsibility! What you need is one of those face hoods like they put on horses...and the words to the Serenity Prayer! Still sending you strong healing energy!
ReplyDeleteOh Phantom! I'm so sorry your freedom was so short lived.
ReplyDeleteMaybe your mom could put some thick socks on your back foot instead of using the cone.
Holly
Oh poor sad phantom,
ReplyDeleteWe're very sorry you're back in the cone ... but think of it this way ... short term pain for long term gain ... we hopes you heal soonest!

Oh no, Phantom!! I was just about to leave a happy comment on your previous "Liberation Day" post when I then saw this! Poor you! But ooh - that scratch does look awfully red and sore!! I think you do need to be protected from yourself! Try to be a good boy and not make your human stressy - and that cone will come off sonner than you think! :-)
ReplyDeleteSlobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
Ouch...hope you feel better and heal soon! No more scratching! (Even though we know how hard that is to not do!)
ReplyDelete
