Happy Labor Day, everyone. Ciara here today. I was busy getting my Easy on yesterday when the boys did their Black and White thing. I sort of prefer the amber browns:)
Today I was wondering if you could help me and Mom solve a mystery.
Anyone know what kind of nut this is?
Ooops - sorry, Lightning, wrong pic. Hmmm, maybe not. Just kidding, bro.
Lightning and I keep finding these round hard knobby balls in our yard, and we love to chew on them. Mom says they are some sort of nut but doesn't know what kind, maybe a black walnut? BUT we don't have any nutbearing trees in our yard or in any of our neighbors' yards. We rarely see any squirrels around here, and we don't think bunnies eat nuts. Any ideas? Mom is worried we might choke on them. Or could they be poisonous to dogs?
Meanwhile, we are enjoying a warm, but not as hot as it has been, sort of day here in OP.
Lightning, you watch that way, and I will check this side. Maybe together we can solve the mystery.
(Phantom here: If you want my opinion, I think those two are both pretty "squirrel-y".)
Woos - Ciara (Phantom and Lightning)
Sorry we have no idea what they could be but we think the squirrels are behind it. They always cause trouble. Have a marvellous Monday and a great Labour Day.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Well gang, that's a "new nut" on us! No idea what that thing is - looks yummy (or not?) and like it would be fun to push around with my nose but other than that I plead "DUH" !!! Happy Labor Day though!
ReplyDeleteKitty Hugs, Sammy
hmmm not something I have seen so not sure. You guys are all looking gorgeous today though :)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm never seen a nut like that before, how very strange, I hope that you solve that nutty mystery! I absolutely love the photos today, gorgeous head shots there of you wonderful Woos! Ciara you look gorgeous with your beautiful furs! I'm glad you are enjoying a nice warm (but not too hot) Labour Day!
ReplyDeletePhantom, your smile has brightened my day!
Love and Licks from your Furiend and fellow Woo pack member Frank XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX
Well Lightning...that was soo funny seeing you after the question. Your mom is too clever.
ReplyDeleteOnly nuts we can identify are...............Madi and Mom.
Phantom and Lightning I have a special announcement tomorrow for men of all species. Drop by if you can
Hugs 2 nuts in a pod
Madi and mom
The photo of the mystery nuts is quite fuzzy. How large are these? Do you have photos of the tree that produces them with closeups of the leaves? Just a wild guess without more information would be that these might be Chinaberry Tree fruit or maybe Soapberry. You can Google. Seeds are toxic.
ReplyDeleteSusan and Wrigs
P.S. Great photos of Ciara, Lightning, and Phantom!
ReplyDeleteAlso, if you have an agriculture extension office in your area, those folks might be able to help you ID your mystery nuts, or direct you to someone who can.
I have no idea what those items are, but great pictures!
ReplyDeleteWell, the big mystery is locating the point of origin. Solve that and you are on your way.
ReplyDeleteKisses,
Dexter
Hello my dear friends,
ReplyDeleteI really don't know what kind of nuts these could be! Do you find the on the floor or under the it? My friend Cosimo found once a real truffle exactly near his entrance in his garden... Who knows?
Love
Arno
I guess the black walnut too. The hull is generally green and turns yellowish, then black. If you pull the hull off the walnut, the juice will stain. I haven't seen them in a long time, but my aunt used to have a black walnut tree and we'd get them from her. What a mess.
ReplyDeleteWe are kinda of liking those beautiful amber browns. Thank goodness it's cooling down a bit
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
I havent seen any of those in my neck of the woods but that doesn't really mean anything. It sure made momma happy to see Phantom with a big smile. She has an extra soft spot for him. Of course, you and Lightning are looking wonderful too!
ReplyDeleteMommy had a black walnut tree when she lived in KS and it dropped it's nuts right below it. They were smaller than a golf ball and you could crack them open with a hammer or nut cracker and it'd look like a walnut inside. If you don't have a tree nearby, we don't know how the nuts would get in your yard though. Are you sure they're nuts? :)
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what kind of nuts those are but I recognized that white Sibe as a crazy nut!
ReplyDeleteSquirrels are certainly the culprits... and I would be afraid choking or poisoning if it were my yard. But, then again, we have the worst luck ever when it comes to vet matters...
Thank you Phantom - You made me smile!
No clue!
ReplyDeleteNola
We don't have any idea! Our Mom would worry about choking too. Hope you clear up the mystery.
ReplyDeleteThe Florida Furkids
Y'all are sure looking mighty fine on this Monday. Hey, I think it is a walnut too and if they are, please don't eat them. They have toxins that can be quite dangerous to doggies...not to mention the chocking thing.
ReplyDeleteDude, they're space peanuts. Look it up. ;)
ReplyDeletewww.dogtreatweb.com
I have no idea what they are, but if you find out, I hope you tell us! Good idea with the watching in two directions, unless it's behind you!
ReplyDeleteBunny
I find these fings in my yard all the time. My the Mom finks they might be "pits" from some sort of freuts??? left behind by the squirrels. What deu yeu fink???
ReplyDeletewif lubbs from Little Reufus
We wish we could help you with the nuts, but are no good at that. We do love the pictures of all the pups though.
ReplyDeleteMillie & Walter
Wish I could be of help on those nuts, but I have no idea. They do look familiar though, like I've seen them somewhere before!
ReplyDeleteGee
ReplyDeleteI don't know what kind of nut it is,, but I hope you figure out the mystery soon.,

tweedles
We bet the squirrels are to blame, too. Aren't they always?
ReplyDeleteLooks like black walnuts to us, too.
We love a good mystery and love these great pics. Have a great Tuesday. XOXO
Pee Ess - be sure to let us all know if you can find out for sure what nut it is.
I don't know what those are, but I hope you find out. The last picture of Phantom made Mommy go all Aahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and OHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh handsome Phantom. It is her new favorite Phantom picture. I love how Lightning and Ciara are butt to butt guarding the yard.
ReplyDeleteLoveys Sasha
We have no idea what those funny looking *nuts* are. Maybe you could get your Mom to hammer them to see what's inside? Could it be seeds of a nearby tree?
ReplyDeleteWe love all the pictures. But we especially love the one of Phantom. He looks so happy!
Haha, squirrely! No we have no idea about what kind of nut it is. The only sort we've seen has 2 legs and long hair... oh hi Mum.
ReplyDeleteDip Bridge and Elliot x
We can't help you. Maybe the squirrels are having a war and have brought in ammunition from elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteWe wondered what you were doing yesterday Ciara!
XXXOOO Daisy, bella & Roxy
We feel certain that the squirrels are to blame! Blame everything on them!
ReplyDeleteLove ya lots♥
Mitch and Molly
We have to start by saying that Phantom has the most beautiful smile EVER!
ReplyDeleteThat does rather look like a walnut of sorts. We don't have any walnut trees here either but occasionally find them in the fields, carried by who know who?
Have you cracked one open to see what it's like inside?
Woofs,
Tommy
ciara is so beautiful. never seen the nut.
ReplyDeleteThey don't look like nuts, perhaps an acorn kind of thingy.. Don't eat them just incase. xx0xx
ReplyDeleteMollie and Alfie
they look more like a pit of something to me. maybe you can plant it in a flower pot and maybe something will grow? Better to be careful dear Woo's
ReplyDeleteWe have those falling out of our oak trees. A flock of blackbirds landed in the trees and those started falling. Mom takes them away from us and throws them out.
ReplyDeleteI might be wrong but they don't look like nuts to us since I don't see a shell on them. Good to see all you Woos. Take care.
ReplyDeleteI don't even know what that is. There are some really delicious things to find on the ground this time of year. The squirrels in our front yard are busily burying acorns and i snatch them whenever we walk through the yard on our walks.
ReplyDeleteYUM YUM.
Please let us know what you find.
We love Family Tree Nursery so maybe you could take it there and ask them? Or some other mom and pop type place closer to you all.
Nora
Hmm...I'm not sure what kind of nut that is. You will have to let us know what you find out.
ReplyDeleteCiara, you're so beautiful. :)
TeeHee Phantom you are tooooo funny!!
ReplyDeleteSmileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
Why not take them to a garden centre and ask? You Woos are looking great!

ReplyDeleteWheek to you Woos, it's us. We here just love your posts so much, so short and simple but so entertaining and say so much at the same time. Melon has yet to learn not to be so long-winded... we'll keep following and keep learning.
ReplyDeleteA pat on the head for all three of you,
Cocoa and Melon
Good thing we don't have those nuts here. For sure Steve would eat them and get all clogged up.
ReplyDeleteKat
Hope you figure out the nut mystery
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Ciara. I think Lightning is a nut too! ;-)
