Thursday Talk
Today was Lightning's day to pay a visit to the V.E.T. for his two year old exam.
Can you tell how thrilled he is to be in the car? When he gets in the car, he is truly a wild one! Mom decided to get him a seat belt harness so she could contain him in the back seat.
This photo shows you what he thought about that!!! No sooner had Mom backed out of the driveway when Lightning figured out how to unbuckle the seat belt. He says it was easy peasy, just put that paw on the red button and presto!!! - he was free! At least he stayed in the back and just cried all the way to the vet. And thankfully it is only an eight minute ride.
Lightning is happy to report that he got a great report. He is a solid 63 pounds of muscle - perfect for his build. Heartworm negative, all shots administered, and lots of hugs and petting from the very nice vet lady and vet tech. Oh, and he doesn't want us to forget to mention he got lots of yummy treats too.
This photo is from the return trip home - totally calm and relaxed:)
Of course, I was calm. I knew I was going home and I don't have to go through THAT again for another year. Mom says next time I might have to be in a crate:( I don't like crates, so maybe I will think about that seat belt contraption again.
Meanwhile, we are all here to tell you that those "nuts" we showed you were indeed black walnuts. Mom took them to one of our local nurseries. Somehow the SSS (Stealth Squirrel Squad) is getting in our kingdom and burying them. We will try not to worry Mom any more by chewing on them as long as she continues to give us those tasty treats. She said to tell everyone that the black walnuts can have a toxic mold on the outside of them, not to mention the risk of choking or intestinal blockage. Now, Momster, hand over the goodies.

Oh Wow, glad you found out what they are. Hope you don't have a lot of them in your yard. We sure don't want those Woos to get a hold of them. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYou know what they say about dogs that sit on the back seat. They are chauffeured. The one's that sit in crates or behind the seats, they are taken. Sit in the back seat and know your special. Luvs Freya Rose Blossom X
ReplyDeleteGlad you found out about those walnut hinges. Don't want any of you getting sick. Thanks for sharing that. We did not know they could be so bad.

I'm glad to hear that you got a great vet report card, Lightning!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I'm the same way...much more relaxed coming home from the vet :)
Stewey
Glad you found out what they were! I know someone whose dog almost died from liver failure form eating those.
ReplyDeleteGlad Lightning is a-okay!
Nola
Congrats on a good check up.
ReplyDeleteThanks for telling us what those nuts are. The squirrels must be bringing them into the yard. Beware of chipped teeth. That's how Sky broke his.
We're happy to hear that your VET visit went so well.
ReplyDeleteThose walnut things sound very bad....please stay away from them!
The Florida Furkids
Lightning~So glad you got a good report card from the VET; it is too funny that you figured out how to undo the seat belt. BTW, happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteI grew up on a small hobby farm and we had black walnut trees. What a chore it was to peel the skins off and crack them. My dog growing up used to crack the shells and eat the walnuts all his life. I'm thankful that your mom investigated though and it being careful of you guys.
Wags, Noreen
We're glad Lightning got a good vet report! He's TWO already? How'd that happen?
ReplyDeleteLove the photo of the three of you! Glad you figured out what was in your yard and that your mom is supplying enough treats to keep you uninterested in them. You have her trained well!
mission accomplished for another year...well done lightening
ReplyDeleteLightning you are one smart Woo
ReplyDeletetoo funny you got out of that harness faster than greased Lightning!!!
Dang squirrels need to stay out of your yard!!!
Sounds like your bipeds might need to be picking up the walnuts. When mom was little her g-ma had a huge pecan tree all the gkids had to pick up peacans
hugs madi your bfff
Congratulations, Lightning (and your Mum) on your great results. We think you need to go on lots of rides so you get used to it!
ReplyDeleteWe go all the time, in fact, every time we walk passed the car, Roxy sits hopefully by the door.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Lightning STRUCK the Seatbelt!!! BaaaaWaaaah.
ReplyDeleteBlack Walnuts are really GOOD... but only a few.. they are STRONG. AND the TREES are worth their weight in Green Papers!!!
Bravo on your pawfect check up Lightning.
Its hard to think that Lightning is two all ready. Time goes by so fast.
ReplyDeleteWe miss that lovely guy TD too, Momster, it all was too fast! Mr. Blue Eyes is looking fine though as are the kids.
Good going on the nutz! I am all for even hiring a couple kids to look for them so you needn't worry!
Cheers,
Jo and Stella

What great pics from the vet visit! Lightning doesn't seem to mind it at all. We didn't realise he is only two. No wonder he has all that energy!
ReplyDeleteVet visits are no fun, but glad your are healthy! Wooowooooo, Ku (Zoe's brofur)

Howdy Lightning, great visit to the Vet mate. Good boy to stay in the back. We can't believe you are two as well. Sheesh, where has the time gone. Yeah, don't eat any mouldy walnuts mate. Just remember our cousin Tyler and the compost (and fungus stuffs). Yucky and bad for sure. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe Lightning is 2! Time really flies. I used to know how to back out of my seat belt harness but then Mom and Dad started hooking it up differently and now I can't do it anymore. I have to wear it a lot more and I decided it's not so bad.
ReplyDeleteKat
I am glad you got a good report my handsome friend!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you had a great check up. I am going to send my friend Belle over to take care of your squirrel problem. She, as you may know, is a PRO in squirrels.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Goose
That's terrific news, Lightning! A good vet trip is always wonderful. I'm not a fan of riding in the car at all. It makes me toss my cookies :o( Looks like someone needs to steop up squirrel patrol in the back yard!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that Lightning is two... I just can't. He managed to get out of the seat belt that fast? We've used seatbelts for years, and we've had only one or two escapes.
ReplyDeleteGlad you found out about the black walnuts... I was afraid that was what they were.
I hope that everyone enjoyed their treats. I must say that Phantom is looking great these days.
Gosh Lightning, are you 2 already? When did that happen, yesterday you were just a little fella. We grow up so fast! "Bow Wow" on your good check up!
ReplyDeleteWyatt
Umm, no, it CANNOT be possible that Lightning had his TWO year-old vet exam!! (This is the exact same way I feel about people's kids that are babies one day, then going off to school the next!). You just brought him home as a puppy like 4 months ago, right?? I wish we could freeze time, especially with dogs, since they have such a shorter lifespan than most of us humans do.
ReplyDeleteThen again, puppyhood is rough sometimes, so I guess I don't wish that they would stay puppies forever! The only thing that keeps us from putting a "return to sender" sticker on them is that they're so darn cute!! :)
Good to know about the black walnuts. Not sure that we get them around here, but I will be sure to keep an eye out for them.
Elyse and Riley (who also grew up on me!!)
Oh and I got so nostalgic that I forgot what I meant to say in that last comment!
ReplyDeleteI had (well, still have, actually) a seat belt harness for Riley...she always would get tangled up in it, no matter how I rigged the thing to hook to the seat belt. Ugh. The majority of the time, she'd have a little freak out and would start yelping because she was stuck and I would have to pull over and unhook the seat belt. (Plus, I'm always paranoid that she's going to get her legs tangled and somehow "undo" her 2 knee surgeries! Or hurt her hips somehow when she freaks out and flails around).
A crate sounds like a good idea, but I just don't have the room (or the time to be constantly rearranging things in my car with Bailey's car seat in there and folding over the seats) to make it fit.
Oh, but I can definitely relate to the whole whining the whole way thing! Not with Riley, but with Chloe. Chloe doesn't get anxious, she gets super excited about wherever she's going and will whine the entire trip. She's a little bit better on the way home (because usually it's to the park or beach and she gets worn out there). Since she's gone mostly deaf in the last 3 years or so, she hasn't whined as much in the car...don't know if that has anything to do with her hearing, but I'll take it! :)
(Sheesh, two long comments in a row! Sorry!). :)
WOOOHOOOO!! Nice vettie report Lightning!! Butts I could have totally told you that ~ you are a fine specimen of a pups!! BOL
ReplyDeleteGood works on that seat belt thingie! I wish mine was that easy! Ma has me teathered to a baby seat hook in the cab of the truck...no such luck escapin' that...butts, where would I go anyhu??! BOL
Now, I'm glads to hear those were walnuts and not 'Lightning nuts'!!! BOL!!! (and, YES, I'm still laughin' at that one....)
Kisses,
Ruby ♥☺
It's great to find out that you are so healthy, Lightning. I'm glad that you stayed in the back seat when you got out of your seat belt. Stay away from those nasty black walnuts. Treats are much better.
ReplyDeleteSpyro
Nice job with the seat belt challenge, little buddy! We did the same thing hahahahaha. Hard to believe that you are already old enough to have a 2-year exam but VERY glad that you are in the peak of health. Meanwhile, EVERYONE stay away from those walnuts.
ReplyDeleteBOL!
ReplyDeleteLightening you are such a rebel - an an ingenious rebel at that!
Very happy to hear your vet checkup went well and you are fit as a butcher's dog.
Dip Bridge and Elliot x
Glad all is OK with you Lightning. So the SSS have been invading your kingdom and leaving you mouldy nuts? I will come over and deal with them for you pals. Hmmm squirrel inards!!!!! Have a fabulous Friday.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes Molly
Glad your Momster got that strange nut figured out. :)
ReplyDeleteHow come WE NEVER get treats from the vet? (Mommy - because you probably won't even eat it).
We are so happy you are healthy Lightning. We love getting treats at the vet, but the rest is a pain in the butt.
ReplyDeleteLove Ruby & Penny
Pees - have you tried the Thundershirt for car rides.
Mom is forever telling me, Miss Molly, that I need to be in a seatbelt. Thanks for the escape tip, Lightning!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a good vet report!
Love ya lots♥
Molly and Mitch
I don't get it, Lightning... You are a perfect boy in perfect shape and they clearly love you at the vet's. What's not to like?
ReplyDeleteWoofs,
Tommy
BOL - love his face!
ReplyDeleteJust don't get a soft crate - we got one of those for Monty and when we opened the back of the car he jumped out, crate and all, and galloped down a hill.
Sam
2 years where have they gone it just seems like last month we were thinking of a name for him.
ReplyDeleteWe love all the facial expressions
we are glad all is okay, we hope Phantom is well too and the rest of course. John said I was heading for the rainbow bridge but I said you first.
Licks Bobby& Pip

Have a nice weekend.
Woof, woof,
Chicco
Oh Lightning you lucky boy getting such a GOOD report and figuring out how to get out of the seat belt (but don't tell you Mom I said that part...tee hee). I'm glad you got treats - we should ALWAYS be rewarded for letting the V.E.T. have his/her way with us on a checkup! IT's only fair!
ReplyDeleteKitty Hugs, Sammy
I'm glad you got good news from the vet, Lightning. I agree with you, cars are bad rolling cages and a trip to the vet is a no-go. I can unleash my harness too , you should see the puzzled faces of my staff as they saw the "Free Willy" on the back seat!
ReplyDeleteOh Lightning thank goodness that terrible vet visit is over. Great job unbuckling the seat belt. Very easy to do. Hope you guys are making a plan to hunt down the tree rats
ReplyDeleteBenny & Lily
Yeah for a great yearly exam! It's always pawsome to hear you don't have to go back for another year. That's so funny Lightning that you figured out the seat belt. You are one smart cookie fur sure.

ReplyDeleteLightning reminds me so much of Leroy. Could you imagine if the 2 of them ever got together!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info on the walnuts!
Lightning, you are too smart dude! Tell your mom to take you in the car more often and then you will be a good boy!
ReplyDeleteHandsome boy. Glad the checkup went well.
