It was a sad morning today when Mom uncovered our beautiful boy Piper. He hasn't been doing well for a while now, and last night he exchanged his earthly wings for Angel wings. But even though the news is sad, we still feel very thankful for the time he shared his life with us.
After his molt this past summer, the sweet boy who loved to sing just about all day long just didn't want to sing. Sometimes it can take a long time for canaries to regain their full strength after going through a molt. He was eating well, seemed very active, and took a daily bath. But a few weeks ago, he seemed to be slowing down. Mom found a bird veterinarian - very tough to find in our area. The doctor examined Piper and did a few tests. She couldn't find anything obvious wrong with him other than he seemed to be very thin. That was a surprise since he always ate and ate all day. She put him on an antibiotic to see if maybe he had some sort of infection. For a couple of days he seemed to perk up a lot. But then for the past two days he stayed on his top perch all puffed up and his eyes looked very sleepy. Mom called the vet yesterday, and Piper was supposed to see the vet this morning for additional tests. But he had other plans. We will all miss him very much. Here is a video from last spring. His sweet voice brought a lot of happiness into our home.
We give thanks today for the time we had with Piper and for all the joy he brought to our days.

So Ma knows the worry. So sorry Piper couldn't make it through. He is making the Bridge a happier place with his beautiful song.

This makes us sad. Birds are so fragile. Each time we lose one Mom says "no more", then she misses their chatter and silly songs and that means another bird or two join the family.
ReplyDeleteRest in peace Piper.
